  1. Good bounce-back outing for the Ax Man. That leadoff walk was ugly, but it was huge coming back with K, groundout (should have been GIDP), pop fly. It was also nice to see the bats come (sort of ) alive, especially with RISP.
  2. I was thinking the same thing. That team was probably drinking in the dugout. My dad has pictures from a game where there was a keg at 2nd base! That keg was one of my favorite players growing up.
  3. Alright, Brewers, it's time to not embarrass yourselves. It's time to dust yourselves off, pick yourselves up, and get right back in it. It's time to get back on the horse, step back in the ring... Ah, forget all that: it's Big Boy Time.
  4. Rickie Weeks: "If Carlos is just going to strike out on two pitches at his eyes, I'm just going to go yard. Forget this singles nonsense. I'll do it all myself." Stud.
  5. I was extremely disappointed to see that sacrifice bunt, and not surprised that it turned into nothing with the catcher and pitcher coming up. Unless you need one run, or you have the pitcher at the plate, you really shouldn't sac bunt. Morgan is a much better hitter than Nieves or Narveson, and you don't want better hitters giving up outs to give worse hitters a shot at driving in the runner.
  6. Outstanding. I love it when other teams give up outs on the bases.
  7. Let's go Brewers - don't suck today. It'd be nice if we could get a win one of these days.
  8. They have to win a game first. The Red Sox have no chance to win the World Series if they don't win a game first.
  9. Gameday during my Tax of Corporations and Business Partnerships class, then heading over to a friend's house for beer, brats, and the last four innings or so.
  10. I always liked Dave Bush a lot. He's the kind of guy that doesn't make the words gritty, battler, and tough sound like insults. I hope he does well for them.
  11. I voted for Prince, although it was close between him and Axford, and I liked the fireworks spot as well.
  12. "Lower velocity from relievers" is now a serious factor? This is a good example of why the SABR crowd has been gaining influence in baseball predictions - a lot of scouts are really dumb. Defense will be mitigated by a staff that's going to rack up some serious Ks, and injuries are an issue with everybody. Most of the injuries in the Brewers camp so far are little things that will get resolved by the middle of April.
  13. I'm thinking about .270/.310/.380 for a .690 OPS. It'll make him worth it with the defense.
  14. Anybody watch that play at the end of the first half of Michigan-Tennessee? The Michigan player took a full three steps on his way to the basket. That would have been traveling even in the NBA.
  15. Casey McGehee has a proven major league record. Brett Lawrie does not.
  16. Another factor harming the Brewers' depth is the lack of viable options at the higher levels in the minors. Most of their prospects (past and present) are either on the major league roster or have been shipped out to other teams.
  17. Jon Heyman now listing the Brewers as a team that is in serious trouble coming out of camp. "Serious issues" threatening to "derail their seasons" cries the tagline! Zack Greinke's injury (expected to miss two starts) a "major blow" to the Brewers' chances! I don't even know why I read what this moron writes.
  18. I always considered the expectations for the Brewers that they have a shot to compete for the Central this year if people perform to their potential and things break the right way. I'm not sure where the "Let's expect the Brewers to win the World Series!" talk is coming from.
  19. Yeah, the 2010 Mariners didn't have a single offensive player who would supplant a Brewers player this year, except for maybe Ichiro. That was a singularly bad offense. When your lineup is a black hole 2-9, you're in serious trouble. Seriously, the third-highest OPS on the team was .666. Their best OPS came from a guy (Russell the Muscle) who played in 57 games, and that was .802. The Brewers last year had five guys over that, and they all played in 140+ games.
  20. I whole-heartedly agree. Seriously, pickup basketball? That's a completely random injury, and if he replayed that game one hundred times, he probably wouldn't get hurt in any of them. He could've injured himself fallling out of bed. Here's a hilarious (and stupid) take from SI's resident genius Jon Heyman. Linky
  21. What do Cruz's lefty-righty splits look like? I don't feel like googling it. Depending, it might be worth a sort of three-way platoon.
  22. Doug: "There are no hard feelings. It's not a renewal. Casey made a point of that [signing a contract] because he didn't want the perception that we were at odds. We're not upset. It's just business." http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/117257313.html That doesn't sound sound like the action of a player who's frustrated. If he was unhappy, do you really think he would insist on signing a contract in order to look happy? Hopefully he plays like Carlos Silva is pitching every day.
  23. I can say for certain that I was a tool in college, and for a couple of years after college. At least, I did things that would get me branded a tool by people who didn't know me. That said, I would love to still have someone with those bat skills still in the minor league system. As long as he's not a Gary Sheffield-caliber tool, I'm willing to accept some tooliness.
  24. Just curious who you want to make the Brewers' roster that isn't a major player? For me, it's Mark DiFelice. I just love a guy who throws one pitch, and one pitch only, at 82 miles per hour, and can use it to get major league hitters out.
