  1. Mark Grace, for all his idiotic blathering, had a very good point about Narveson: the stat line looks ugly, but he pitched a heck of a game. He had to get what sure felt like twelve outs in the first two innings, and but for a ball Fielder should have had (Utley's double that bounced under his glove) and Zaun's error, he would not have tired so soon. Nine Ks, too.
  2. That's our Brewers. Monster solo home run followed by a man on second base with one out. What do the next two hitters do? Fly out weakly. This team is really hard to watch when they're not hitting.
  3. SI weighs in with some thorough fact-checking: Brewers fan dies three weeks after pregame fall at Miller Park
  4. Good call on pitching around him, jason21. I did not factor into that. Also, Conor Jackson just walked by looking at four straight strikes. The low zone completely disappeared in that AB according to Gameday.
  5. Only the last swing, really. Strike two was borderline, and he watched some close pitches that were balls. I'm a proponent of always taking on 3-0, so I dislike Zaun's approach there. Second and third no out, and they get nothing. That is frustrating.
  6. Go for the suicide squeeze! Edit: while not as exciting, I'll take the straight-up base knock. Narveson helping out his own cause.
  7. I'm usually not terrifically concerned that the Brewers are getting dominated by some guy who's not missing bats at all. Eventually some of those fly balls will hit grass (or seats), and some of those ground balls will reach the outfield. Right now the Brewers have a .222 BABIP, and only two Ks (one looking). They may not be squaring up many balls, but if the guy can't get them to swing and miss, they'll make adjustments and get there.
  8. Looks like Narveson has that hook working today. That's nice to see. Can you tell I don't want to study for my trademark exam? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  9. Hopefully, of the manic-depressive (aka, score 10 runs or 0) Brewers, this early homer means that the manic (10 runs) Brewers will show up today. Please show why the Yankees were so willing to offer Kennedy in every trade package for the last four years.
  10. Ben Sheets's fastball was good enough movement-wise that he can "afford" to lose a little bit if he still places it. A guy doesn't get by on two pitches if the only thing his fastball has going for it is 95 mph.
  11. Gameday tells me that Escobar has zero stolen bases, and zero caught stealing. Odd.
  12. Bottom of the first and bottom of the second are the only half innings so far that ended on a different play.
  13. That's some start. Hopefully DD can keep the ball down and go six or more.
  14. That was a nice run to end the half, though. Hopefully that can give them some momentum going into the second.
  15. I doubt the NBA is really invested in seeing the Hawks move on at this point.I'll believe it when I see it. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from 2002 and 2006.
  16. That's his "You got nothin' on ME, cholangiohepatitis! You're going DOWN!" look. Hope he pulls through. Edit: also, he's adorable. That gray and white coat is fantastic!
  17. Catching it on the radio, it wasn't much of an error - Davey Nelson actually had a pretty good quip after Cory called it a horrible score-keeping decision: "that score-keeper obviously never played third base!" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. I think there are some good things to take away from this one. Narveson settled in nicely after that first inning. If he can get things going, that should help. It showed some toughness for the Brewers to come back a couple of different times to tie it up, one time taking the lead. Parra continues to be quite good, although I'm not surprised he gave up that run - for a guy who's pretty much been a LOOGY/one-inning guy to go three, he was probably wearing down.
  19. Wouldn't finger or thumb be pretty obvious to him? I know that arms can feel sore or what-not and confuse the pitcher as to what's going on, but a finger is really hard to not know it's injured. I vote dead arm (he effectively did not have spring training outings) combined with an 83-mph fastball that he's having trouble locating.
  20. I wanted him, but I am a huge fan of power lefties with something to prove (I still think Parra is going somewhere, for example). I think he's back. A big part of what was missing last season was his confidence and control. His stuff was rebuilding, so to speak, as he was regaining full arm strength. The only question has been will his stuff recover along with his ulnar collateral ligament, and he's showing that it is, and he's recovered the confidence he was missing last season. Watch out for Liriano this season.
  21. Did anybody see this coming based on the high number of fly balls from last year? I certainly did not, but looking back at it, he seemed to give up a high percentage of fly balls. If he can't keep getting hitters out, it might be time for him to retire. Call up Braddock or Stetter, and put anybody but Hawkins into the closer role.
