  1. Am I missing a "hope springs eternal" joke? I feel out of the loop. Also, I hope this isn't a cheese sandwich game because I need to be up at 6 to get to my internship tomorrow morning. C'mon, Mike.
  2. Have the Brewers ever played well on Fox Saturday? If they have, I've never seen it.
  3. Gamel should've gone and gotten himself tossed right there. The ump must have felt sorry for Hanson getting knocked around this inning because strike three is a ball all game.
  4. Manny Parra threw four, maybe five strikes in that at-bat. He was getting squeezed. He's not "up to his old ways" or a "mental midget" today. Chipper's clearly liking what he sees against Parra, and when the ump narrows the strike zone like that, he better hope Chipper puts a bad swing on it.
  5. Perfect game? Gone. Shutout? Gone. Lead? Gone. Four-seamer? Gone. Ryan Braun, ladies and gentlemen.
  6. Looking at the replay, Berkman was out. They have one angle in which you can clearly see that his hand comes down in front of the plate, hits Kendall's shin guard, and goes around the plate. Great call by the ump, but from where he was, he almost certainly lucked into it, as I think Kendall's body was between him and Berkman. Good win, fighting out some hits against a tough pitcher in Oswalt, and getting into that squishy bullpen. Gotta believe that this was Bill Hall's last chance to prove he can hit righties. Mat Gamel, get ready.
  7. Bill Hall, you're killing me. Just killing me. Manny Parra earns his way on base without taking the bat off his shoulder, and Bill Hall hacks at the first pitch. After he watched the pitcher take the sixth (sixth!) Brewer walk of the game. Dale Sveum and Ken Macha need to tell him to not even think about swinging until he's seen a few pitches. Hall is single-handedly extending this guy's outing.
  8. Counsell, absolutely - he's the man in bases-loaded situations. Although Kendall did do exactly what Counsell would have (hack at the first pitch). It's just unlucky.
  9. In Soup's defense, he did get two ground-ball hits, and he just walked Soto on five straight strikes, according to Gameday.
  10. I don't know about that. He had two Ks in the previous five innings (one against the pitcher), which leads me to believe (not watching) that everybody had been getting the bat on the ball, and that this was just an epic failure of hitting. I could be wrong, though.
  11. Sour grapes, Adam? Grow up. You got rooked by one of the best young pitchers in the game. Deal with it.
  12. He's a Siberian - he seems purebred, but he was a shelter dog, so we can't be certain. I'm on the couch with my laptop and Con Law, and he's sleeping on my feet http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Good to see Rickie get another one - nice little insurance run. Hopefully Yo keeps this up. He's been sharp except for that one pitch to Lee.
  13. Thanks! My wife and I contend that he's the cutest dog in the world. Anyway, yeah, until this inning, Paulino really might have only had two or three swings-and-misses. Striking out Kendall doesn't count, though http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. This Paulino guy's really not fooling anybody. Bill struck out on a foul tip, and Fielder went down swinging earlier, but Gameday is showing me that pretty much all the other swings have been bat on ball. He also seems to be really worried about Hardy stealing second. Huh. Edit: as soon as I type this he strikes out the side. Fitting.
  15. Braden Looper, cagey vet, realizes rule # 1 when facing the Reds: Willy Taveras is bad at baseball, but very fast. Do. Not. Walk. Him. He can't get on base otherwise.
  16. Parra's at 97 with that strikeout, and Arroyo's at 82 after the fifth.
  17. How have we walked Willy Taveras three times already in this series? Throw him three straight pitches right down the middle if you have to. He's terrible at baseball. Make him swing the bat. He has Counsell-esque power. Seriously.
  18. Here's my thought process: Bill Hall - I smell a four-pitch K. A double! Alright! Well, it doesn't matter because Kendall's about to ground out weakly to the shortstop after looking at a meatball of a first-pitch fastball. Hey, they're walking him to get to Gallardo. Good call - he's twice the hitter Kendall is. In play, run(s) - man, I hope he went yard. Woo-hoo!
  19. My dad and brother are true lefties. I think the theory that people should lead with their dominant hand in swinging is mostly so that right-handed coaches don't have to teach left-handed players how to swing naturally. Just turn them around, and it'll be easy to teach! If this theory had any weight, I think a much higher percentage of righties would be swinging lefty. Namely, 100.
  20. I love this move. Mark Derosa really seemed to be one of those guys who never got a shot to play full time, and when he did, he turned out to be awesome. Seriously, the last two seasons have been career years for this guy, and they just shipped him to make room for Aaron Miles. Harden, by the way, is not just another injury risk. He pitched as many innings in a Cubs uniform (71) as had in the two previous seasons (72 1/3) combined. His innings pitched in 2008 were equal to almost 75% of his innings since 2005. Seriously, this guy's innings high is 189 once, then 148, then such grand totals as 128, 46, and 25. This guy makes Ben Sheets look like CC Sabathia, innings-wise.
  21. See the ball, hit the ball, Prince. Not like that, though.
