  1. For those of you out of market and too cheap for mlb.tv (like me!), espn is streaming the game online through their ESPN the Ocho.
  2. Good to see that Diego and Fielder are split. I do like the idea (posited earlier) of Diego in the #2 spot. Good on-base skills, doesn't give up outs, and may require an opposing manager to make tough choices burning relievers with Braun and Fielder coming up late in the game. Is RF going to be a hard platoon? PS - nicely done, SoCal. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. The Twins have been doing that with some success as well. Think of Santana, Liriano, now Duensing. For them it has worked out because of their superstar pitching prospects, but it could work with some slightly less outstanding pitchers. Edit (to be on topic): This is going to go on those lists of most ridiculous sports injuries ever. Sammy Sosa sneezing, Jeff Kent washing his truck, etc. The only thing is, this is one of the few injuries that has the potential to help the team.
  4. Doesn't the awful FSN deal that Wendy signed run out soon? Did they sign a new deal? If the deal is coming up soon, that might be able to pick them up a few more dollars.
  5. HUGE out right there. Nicely done, Carlos. I was a little worried that he would get lit up after getting down 3-0.
  6. I was about to say Kottaras is a switch-hitter, but baseball-reference disagrees. Anyway, yeah, you'd rather see the lefty come in against Diego/Kottaras than Prince/Diego. Of course, the opposing manager may not even bother to bring in a specialist in that instance, and if you really want to play games (and can burn the pinch-hitters), shuffle in Hart at that point, giving more RH focus, while still leaving a very LH bench.
  7. This is the last time this year that I will complain about the lineup, but I have no idea what Ken Macha is doing. Diego apparently hit Cook pretty well sometime back in the 17th century (while exploring America for the Spanish Empire?), so he's starting. That's fine. Hitting Diego after the only other lefty in the lineup makes no sense, particularly when on Monday the Rockies brought lefties in to face Prince, and they completely neutralized Diego.
  8. OBP plays anywhere, really. As for the discussion at hand, leave them as is. Weeks is going to get on more, and a failed bunt in the #2 position has the added possibility of moving Weeks into scoring position.
  9. Ball four was actually a strike, but strike two was actually a ball, so I'll take the walk! Way to go, Corey! Edit: according to Gameday, that is.
  10. Zaun seems to be a GIDP machine so far this season, but bright side! His first RBI as a Brewer.
  11. This was a tough one, but there are bright spots. The Brewers apparently tattooed the ball all day, as getting 12 hits plus a couple of times reaching on errors must mean that you're swinging the bats well. Gallardo, despite clearly not having it, managed to pitch a decent game. On the downside, it is extremely frustrating to see all those LOB. The biggest bright spot, of course, is that Macha doesn't need to worry about the fifth starter spot anymore, as Narveson clearly indicated his inability to pitch in big spots. Bring on Suppan!
  12. This guy seems to have saved his secondary pitches for the second time through the order - man, that seemed like all fastballs first time through.
  13. That's a bit of an odd lineup. Gomez I can understand hitting second (I also understand that it's a horrible decision), but when you only have two lefties, why hit them back to back? I know Prince generally crushes lefty specialists, but why not at least tempt the opposing manager into burning an extra pitcher in the late innings? I've had enough! Somebody start up firekenmacha.com!
  14. Opening Day! I will be in class, and sadly unable to watch http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Go Brewers!
  15. Sometimes guys just lose it. I'm a pretty big fan of Hart, but it seems like he's going the way of Bill Hall. Good thing we didn't give him $24 million before that happened.
  16. 83-79 Hart, McGehee, Escobar, and Gomez will all hit just OK, with Gomez and Escobar making up for it with D. Braun, Fielder, and Weeks will all have big years, and Zaun will provide what everybody hoped for, a little OBP. Wolf and Davis will be solid, Suppan will serve up gopherballs until he gets cut, and Bush and Parra will both be decent. Those four will all be in the 4-4.50 ERA range. So will Gallardo, unfortunately, who sees a late season fall-off thanks to last year's abuse. Miss the playoffs by two games.
  17. Yesterday Parra had a bad game in terms of results. Just what Macha was waiting for to give Suppan his rightful spot and ditch the whipper-snapper. Zim-zam over!
  18. Don't you remember when Derrick Turnbow blew out Ben Sheets' throwing shoulder in the epic game of tug of war in July of 2006, leading him to miss half the season?
  19. Meanwhile, Cliff Lee gets suspended for five games in the Major League season. Someone should teach Cliff Lee that retaliating two innings later is not ok, but wait four months and you'll be fine! Cliff Lee Suspended
  20. I did not realize just how dominant Nathan has been, particularly within his division... Posnanski on Nathan's Dominance On the other hand, the Twins have enough solid-to-great relievers that they can probably just plug in one of their regulars and not lose too much in the spot.
  21. Ryan Braun says hi, then steps back, tucks his bat under his arm, undoes and redoes the velcro on his left glove, then his right glove, then checks his shin-pad, then swings his bat around, then steps forward again to shake your hand. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Epic. Does anybody know whom I can contact at the JS to laud for this poll choice?
  23. I agree with everything AJAY says. Prince Fielder means a lot more to the Brewers than any of his statistics or the number of wins he provides. He is a symbol of the fact that the Brewers are relevant again, and it's because of superstars like him. A lot of teams have icons (Ichiro for the Mariners, Jeter for the Yankees, Chipper Jones for the Braves, etc.), and they will attract national attention because of it. Additionally, guys like Prince and Braun pack the seats and sell a lot of jerseys. There's financial advantage to having him.
