  1. HA HA HAA! GEOFF JENKINS! GRAND SLAM! WHOOOO!!! TAKE THAT, AAAA PITCHER!
  2. I hate hate hate seeing second-rate pitchers make us look bad. I'm busy all night so I can't spend my whole time in the vent thread, but we better pick up against this kid.
  3. Alternately, you can try to leverage your other offer into a pay/benefits raise at your current job. Find out what you're worth to your current company. My father just did the same thing and his current employer gave him an offer he couldn't pass up when faced with competition, so he stayed. Now, if it's public, pay scales are probably fixed. Then I'd say go. As others have stated, your responsibility to your company is to do the best job you can while you're their employee.
  4. I always worry about Vargas's starts. I worried about it last Tuesday at Miller Park watching us beat the Cubs, and I worry about it tonight. Well, today's my last day of work at my current job, with a new one starting Monday, so it'd be great to have a Brewers series win to bridge from one to the other!
  5. If we take one, I'll be happy, if we take two, I'll be ecstatic, and if we take three, I'll pee on a cubs fan.
  6. I think the Cubs are pretty low on prospects these days. The guys who are worth anything (Theriot, Pie, a few pitchers) are already in the majors and generally essential to what success the Cubs have had. They traded away a bunch of good pitching prospects to the Marlins to get Juan Pierre and Derrek Lee, most of whom have seen major league time and been somewhat successful (Sergio Mitre chief among them). Like the Brewers, the Cubs have way too many corner outfielders, but again like the Brewers, those guys they have aren't worth much in trade. How much would you give away for Jacque Jones, Cliff Floyd or Matt Murton? None of those guys are really starter-caliber players these days, and with the Cubs' general focus on experience over talent, they'd be more likely to trade Murton, who's probably actually less valuable in trade than Floyd, who at least has a good bat. I'm worried more about what the Cubs have on the field than what they might get. Lee and Soriano are always dangerous, Pie is for real, and the rest just have to get on base for them/get base hits to knock them in. I hope they slide with three infield spots taken by backup infielders (Theriot, DeRosa, Izturis and Fontenot) while Ramirez is on the DL so we can gain more ground on them before he comes back.
  7. Oh, yeah - Brewers win! I would like to remind you all that, at the beginning of the series, I took the fact that we were facing a very good and red-hot team in their own ballpark and predicted a series win. I doubted after the Verlander game, worrying about a sweep, but then my hopes returned after last night's game. Isn't it nice to play teams that are on a roll? It really seems that we get a lot of slumping teams, and I hate to see that because it seems like the Brewers are the official slump-busters of major league baseball this year.
  8. That guy Morrow for the Mariners is terrible - he walks two backup second basemen (DeRosa and Fontenot) on a combined nine pitches and then after a sacrifice gives up a hit to Cesar Izturis, backup shortstop. If that's not a pathetic pitching performance, I don't know what is.
  9. Didn't Craig Monroe go 3-3 with three doubles once against us last year? I vastly prefer the sombrero. Now it's time for some insurance runs.
  10. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you... the Tigers Bullpen!! It's nice to see these guys out on the mound - now we just have to get to them.
  11. That's probably mine right there. It may "just" be about rabbits, but it's as epic a story you could want, full of daring adventures, improbable escapes and war against extinction, all within a day's walk for a person. I would like to mention We Wish to Inform You That Tomorrow we Will be Killed With Our Families which, while an excellent, excellent book, is not exactly light reading. In fact, it's pretty horrifying throughout, but an excellent book.
  12. Robin19, that's "The Lady or the Tiger" you mention and it's a high school english classic. Good story.
  13. It's been a few days since we've last seen Estrada hit fifth. Hopefully it continues.
  14. Hate to be a killjoy, but that Texas series sure looked like a panacea for what ailed us on the road...
  15. Not an exact quote, but: "Strawberry, hit the showers. I'm calling in a pinch hitter." "But I've hit nine home runs today!" "It's called playing the percentages."
  16. Looking at that lineup, plus our pitching matchup, plus being on the road against one of the best teams in baseball right now (winning six out of eight, to boot)... I can't help but smell series win. Seriously. Look at it - Ned's put up some good lineups, and our boys have faced a bunch of teams in the last couple of weeks that have been slumping or that we should never, ever, ever lose a series to, and they've walked all over us. When was the last time we faced a team that wasn't in a slump? Now, we have the dynamic duo that forced Braun's early call-up hitting 1-2 and no Braun, with those ugly splits... I'm predicting a 6-1 Brewers victory tonight, chasing Verlander in the fourth with four earned runs.
  17. I remember watching Rohde play for the Mallards last summer. Pretty good player, too bad there's not much future in baseball for him.
  18. I think when Weeks comes back healthy, there'll be a nice mix of quiet confidence and outward confidence in the young guys on the team. Prince, Braun and Hall will let you know when they've gotten the better of you with a stare-down and a bat flip here and there, and I think Prince and Hall have earned it, while Braun's getting there. Hardy and Hart are quieter about it, and they'll just put their heads down and run. Weeks, well, I'm not sure about Weeks. I haven't seen quite as much of him lately since he's been hurt. Anyway, I think Braun is a little cocky, but he's not yet showing people up. I think it's only a matter of time before he does, though. Kid's got talent. Edit: He knows it, too. At jsonline.com's brewers section, there's an article on Braun "settling in" with the big club, and he talks about how his last two weeks couldn't have been much worse at the plate. He's disappointed in his K totals. If he thinks he's been bad, I want to see him when he's good.
  19. I posted earlier about Braun moving out of # 3 until he got settled. Well, I think I'm ready to leave him at 3. VS. LHP 1. Hart 2. Hardy 3. Braun 4. Fielder 5. Hall 6. Mench 7. Estrada 8. Graffanino VS. RHP 1. Hart 2. Hardy 3. Braun 4. Fielder 5. Jenkins 6. Hall 7. Estrada 8. Counsell Just get Estrada out of the 5 spot. When Weeks comes back it gets a little blurry.
  20. AAAAARRRGGHH!!!! Why can't we have more than two hitters on a roll at once? Why? JJ Hardy and Prince Fielder, then Prince Fielder and Geoff Jenkins, then just Prince Fielder, then Prince Fielder and Corey Hart...AAAAHHH!!! Also, if you're going to boot three successive grounders, at least make up for it with a home run, a single, a walk, or something that's not just an out. Please. Johnny Estrada, if Prince Fielder is on first, don't even swing the bat until he's not on first anymore, or you're not at the plate anymore. They might as well send Prince whenever he's on first ahead of Estrada because Johnny's swinging for the DP EVERY (fancy-cake) TIME!!
  21. Somebody called into WSSP after the game last night to point this out and mentioned that Prince kind of glared at him on his way back into the dugout. I was standing behind the left-field bleachers when he hit it and I saw that swing and just said "oh stuff*" because he absolutely destroyed that ball. If he wants to take a moment to admire a monster like that, it's fine by me. If that was the case, I'm glad that Prince is there, though, and looks like he's ready to put the rookie in his place if he goes too far. I think Prince is going to be the one keeping everybody in line more than Jenkins. He just seems like he runs the clubhouse. I think in a few years idiot sportswriters are going to talk about "the Prince gene" like what's-his-stupid-face (Stark, I think) was talking about "the Jeter gene." Anyway, I love these kids. They're awesome. *not really, but what I said can't be repeated here.
  22. Even from the left field bleachers I could tell Turnbow wasn't getting the low strike that Eyre and Howry were. (It's easier than you think - watch the catcher's glove - they always catch and move their glove into the strike zone if it's out) I thought he pitched well - he had to throw more fastballs than he needed to because he wasn't getting the strike calls that he deserved.
  23. I was debating whether or not I wanted to go tonight, and ended up biting the bullet and getting a ticket in the left-field bleachers. I chose that over my preferred right-field bleachers because of the lefty on the mound for the Flubs in hopes that some of our righties decide that they would rather hit bombs than strike out or ground out weakly to the pitcher (Kevin Mench, I'm looking at you). This'll be game two of the year for me, and I'll be going it alone, wading into a sea of jerks and morons, aka Northsiders, aka sCrub fans, aka Our Unfriendly Neighbors to the South aka *(I don't think I can even type the three-letter abbreviation, but the middle letter is I for Illinois)* aka go back to Chicago you losers we don't want you here. The last game I attended, on Memorial Day, the Brewers left lots of RISP LOB and an inability to hit an above-average lefty. Hopefully they do a little better today, and hopefully if Fielder leaves one in the seats he won't decide to do it while I'm in line for a brat. Jerk. I take it back, Prince - hit home runs whenever you feel like, as long as it's frequent and preferably with men on base.
  24. Right now? Here's what I'd do: 1 - Hart 2 - Hardy 3 - Fielder 4 - Jenkins vs right/Hall vs left 5 - Hall vs right/Braun vs left 6 - Braun vs right/Mench vs. left 7 - Estrada 8 - Counsell/Graffanino This one's tough - I'd like Fielder at cleanup, but I trust nobody enough to not kill a rally in the 3-hole before the big guy steps to the plate. I was flirting with Hall at 3 or 6 (punch out all you want, buddy, it's not gonna do that much damage), but then I don't know where to put Braun. My two biggest things right now are get Braun out of the 3-hole and Estrada out of 5. Braun can reclaim the 3-hole once he's settled, but Estrada should never be at 5. Edit: I didn't think about Weeks's return. When he does, here goes: 1 - Hart 2 - Hardy 3 - Weeks 4 - Fielder 5 - Jenkins v. right/Hall v. left 6 - Braun 7 - Estrada 8 - Hall v. right/Mench v. left Note that I have pretty much no faith against Mench, even against lefties.
  25. I just don't see the argument that "Bush was done" last night. The previous inning he had cut down the 3-4-5 hitters on five pitches. That's an inning that starts with Derrek Lee and Aramais Ramirez - no mean feat.
