  1. Gameday tells me that Chad Moeller put the ball In play, run-scoring play, and my cell phone just beeped, meaning Bad Chad probably put one in the seats! Cell phone says yes! Bad Chad goes deep! This means it should be close seeing their bullpen, and we do well against bullpens.
  2. Lehr looked good in his first couple of appearances, I think. Bill Hall pops out on pitch #2 - I really think these guys need to be patient with a somewhat wild rookie.
  3. Finally we got a hit and a run. Good for Carlos. We need to continue scoring runs. This kid is hittable, and he can be scored on.
  4. At least Rickie knows where to be on a bunt.
  5. Brady with a lead-off walk. Who do you pinch here? You really have to sit Eveland down due to his 104 pitches. Edit: with the Bad Chad walk, Hart comes in. I like seeing him get a shot.
  6. Abreu got to third on a fly-out, then Eveland gets Howard with the K. If he can get Bell here, I'll be impressed. Nullifying a lead-off walk/SB isn't easy.
  7. I want to see Eveland have a good outing. He's facing a team that's been having some trouble scoring runs the last few days. I really want to tattoo Hamels just so the Phillies fans will stop talking about him like he has the Cy Young in the bag already.
  8. I don't know about you guys, but after a couple of innings being unable to even get on base down one run, I was feeling pessimistic. Now that it's 4-1 I feel like the game's over. I hope the Brewers prove me wrong.
  9. I was also at the game. It was nice to see 26,000 people there after a 1-5 road trip. Hopefully the weather is better tomorrow so they can draw a bigger crowd. Some thoughs: Bush was doing ok. His curve wasn't quite on in the early innings, which I think is why he gave up those early runs. For the first three and two-thirds innings I was worried that it was going to be another one of those games against a AAA junkballer. Prince's first homerun: That ball was so high, I was certain it was a pop-up to shallow center, but then, it kept going up. and up. and up. When it finally came down it left a big dent in the Roadrunner sign. I really think that 475 ft is a conservative estimate. One of the great things was that Prince hit the homerun on either pitch #10 or pitch #11. He fouled off pitches as if they were threatening his family. Section 101 continues to be a fun place to watch the game, with some good knowledgeable fans, and immediate proximity to the Mets bullpen provided some good laughs. I liked "call up the bullpen, coach!" when Lima got men on first and second. Prince's second homerun: speaking of the bullpen. Bannister came in for one pitch (RBI single), then Randolph decided to put in a left. I shouted at the bullpen, "Please! Put in a lefty!" Sure enough, they do, and sure enough, homerun. When he hit that ball, I shouted "thanks for the lefty!" I had some admirers in the section after I said that us getting a lefty pitcher to face Fielder was grand. Jenkins had a great at-bat on that bases-clearing double. He also still has quite a bit of fan support. Clark is looking better at the plate. He had a really bad at-bat (K swinging in the dirt), but other than that he looked good. Kolb looked good but for some bad luck, a pitch that couldn't be hit except for opposite field and was, and a couple of errors. I don't get why, if Hardy pinch-hits and then stays in for defense, Hall doesn't stay on and shift to second and Weeks doesn't sit. Sitting Rickie is the definition of "late-game defensive replacement." Latin Cappy was dealing. I saw in this game how high his ceiling really is. Turnbow remains a rock star. It's heartening to see that even though Billy Wagner struck out the side, they burned him through twenty pitches in so doing. If they can do that and get a hit or two, they can get to him.
  10. Sixteen of twenty-seven outs on Ks. That's a pretty good outing by the Padres pitching staff. It's nice to see that this club fights for runs, but it would have been nicer to see them fight for some runs last night.
  11. The bigger question should be why Lehr is throwing balls in the dirt against a guy hitting .200.
  12. Nuts. I predict a Jenkins GIDP right here. I'm stunned to see that he didn't swing at the ball in the dirt. Edit: yeay! My negative prediction worked! Although Jenkins did his best to ground into that double play.
  13. If JJ deposits one in the seats we're right back in it. Of course, to do this he has to perform the equivalent of hitting the ball to Waukesha at Miller Park, but still. Whose sig is it that quotes Ueck as saying "A couple of grand slammers and the Brew Crew are right back in it?"
  14. As soon as Peavy sits down we get a run on three straight hits, then the bases are walked loaded, no outs. That's nice.
  15. I say the Padres top a dozen runs. Yost is going to take out Fernandez and put in whatever reliever has been sitting the longest (at least a week, preferably), and he proceeds to get inducted into the Order.
  16. Trade Hall for prospects! Bring up Irribarren! Anyway, this is starting to feel like a CG shutout. Not pretty. annnddd... Down goes Moeller! DOWN GOES MOELLER!! on strikes. Way to go, buddy. This Peavy guy's supposed to be an ace, right? I'm a little worried about our inability to hit All-Star pitchers lately, combined with our continued owning by scrub pitchers. This cold streak better end soon.
  17. I'd rather pull the type of trade we pulled to get Koskie - give up little ben for a case of beer. I'll take a six-pack as a finder's fee.
  18. Minor leaguers to replace Fernandez? We have thirteen pitchers on the roster and three more on the DL! Why do we need to bring up more? Just dump Fernandez already. I know we're talking about a small sample size, but a 14.54 ERA is only going to go down so far, especially when he comes in and knuckleballs start flying out of the park.
  19. I can't stop laughing at this recap. You rock uncontrollably, man.
  20. I feel like every time pitchers throw to him, Geoff Jenkins strikes out. Bat Bill Hall 3rd! Trade JenKins! Start Cirillo! Sorry, just had to get the snark out of my system. Seriously, though, I don't like eleven-pitch innings for the opposing starter.
  21. I'm not listening anymore. This is frustrating. Call me if the Brewers manage a comeback. Seriously, we'll be lucky to come away with three wins in eight games against the NL West.
  22. Jenkins proves me wrong by not striking out, but manages to get out nonetheless. At least it sets the table for Lee to hit yet another solo home run.
  23. This is not the Capuano I'm used to. Single, walk, double, single to the pitcher is not what I like to see. I'm hoping for a pick-off or a GIDP here. Edit: run-scoring single. That's good, too. Great. Come on Cappy, we really need to win this game. It's the PADRES!! They're in the NL West, officially the worst division in the history of ever.
  24. Could someone describe Turnbow's save? I wasn't able to catch it on the radio, tv or gameday, so all I have is the box score that says 2 SO, 8 pitches, 7 strikes. I imagine he struck out one batter on three pitches, one batter on four, and get the other batter to hit into an out on one pitch.
