That's embarrassing. At least Gomes didn't go yard, which is the usual follow-up to that kind of Bad News Bears defense. Now, there's a wild pitch and Phillips is at third. This is ridiculous.
I'm not sold on Josh Wilson's defense, if we're going that route. I love Counsell's glove - he's lost a step in the infield, but he's still one of the only plus defenders we have out there.
I hate games like this. One bad pitch from Yo, and the Brewers hit the ball all over the field, but directly at defenders every time. Normally, I'd predict that they break through against Collmenter because he's not fooling anybody, but not with the way things have gone lately.
I'm glad that the Brewers are done facing three of the best teams in the major leagues. They have home series left against the Phillies and the Marlins, and road series against most of the NL West, but the rest is pretty much just the NL Central. Being in first place after playing nine games against AL East teams that will probably all finish with 90+ wins is pretty good, even if it looked terrible.
Stupid interleague schedule. It sure would be nice to play the Blue Jays, Orioles, and [one good team]. It would be even better to get two of those series at home. Is it unfair? Yeah. Is it on the Brewers to perform no matter what? Yeah. Am I going to keep complaining about it? Yeah.
You know that feeling in the air when it's about to thunderstorm, but the sun's still shining, and the wind hasn't picked up yet? That's how I feel about this game. Burnett's not been so hot for the past season and a half, and Marcum has been really good this season, particularly on the road, but this feels like it'll be 10-1 Yankees before the third inning starts.
I definitely agree with the opinion that you want guys swinging at a first pitch in that situation. I also agree that Weeks had a good at-bat - he was just unlucky, and if the line drive (or the defender) had been a couple of feet either way, the Brewers would be leading.
