  1. I'll take Texans over Wisconsinites any day. No offense intended Wisconsinites. I've met a few I like. I just feel much more at home here. And I don't ever have to deal with snow, or if I ever do, it will be on a limited basis. I think what homer is getting at is that we all know you're from Texas and it doesn't have to be mentioned in all Wisconsin related weather things. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  2. Wes Littleton has completely lost himself. His velocity is down, his command is bad. I doubt he'll be with Nashville long. Mark Rogers continues to be a bright spot. Where has that Rogers friend that posted here once in a while been hiding? I'd sure like an insider report on his velocity, and what he's throwing now. Well where did you get the information on Littleton?
  3. It's too early to know. Weeks has been able to put up nice stretches. I think we'll know by the all-star break if this is 'the year'. I know this isn't a stat and just an opinion, but he really seems to be more confident this year. In past years, I felt he looked lost or confused at times.
  4. assuming they draft at 10 - dejuan blair. With CV being a restricted FA the bucks really have no options at the 4 position. I don't see alexander being able to play the 4 at a high level and the only other option they have is allen. Blair would give us an inside presence coupled with Bogut. in the 2nd round I'd take McNeal. I know he is undersized but he has always been a defensively gifted player and with the 3 point shot added to his game I think he would be a decent backup for Redd I don't want any part of Blair. I think he's too short to play the 4 in the NBA, but that's just my opinion. He may have the 'length' to play the 4 I guess...at least that's what I've read. I still would love to see the Bucks take Ty Lawson. I know it doesn't match exactly with how the Bucks roster is set now, but that could all change this summer.
  5. $250 per month ($3,000 per year) invested in solid mutual funds yielding 10% for 40 years will be worth a lot more than $120,000 or $200,000. Try $1.5 million. Hope you like the car! Spending money on new cars, or anything requiring car payments really, is pretty much a fantastic waste of wealth-building opportunity. Can you get 10% right now?
  6. That's too bad for Charlie. I always thought he had a lot of potential...he just couldn't make use of it on the field. Best of luck to him...
  7. The quicker you pay off 20% of the loan, the quicker you can start putting the money spent on mortgage insurance towards principal or other investments. This isn't always the case. It's a time period or 20% on most FHA loans...whichever is longer before your PMI goes away.
  8. That said if Braun ends up sidelined tonight for 6 weeks expect Gamel to start taking flyballs tomorrow. I agree with this. This would be a situation where I could see Gamel moved this year and coming to Milwaukee. The only way he's up without an injury/trade IMO is if he continues to improve his defense. I really hope that folks here get a chance to see Gamel play before trying to give a scouting report on his defense. Errors in the minors can be a very, very poor stat to look at. I just think Gamel at 3B >>> Gamel corner OF spot. I think it'll be a bit easier to find a corner OF than a 3B with the potential that Gamel has.
  9. I still don't see what the rush with Gamel is. He's barely played at AAA. I think Brewers' fans have been spoiled with Fielder and Braun coming up and continuing to rake. That's not always the case. I think Gamel should stay in AAA all year in an ideal world. His defense will play at the MLB level. Most of his errors are mental errors. If he can't figure that out, who is to say he will at another position? OFs still have to throw the ball and that's where Mat is making most of his mistakes. He just needs to slow down the game and he'll be fine. I keep him at 3B all year and make a decision in the off-season. The Brewers appear (very early I know) to have more pressing issues at the MLB level than Gamel. Now if Hart is moved and all that it's a different story. I just don't see the Brewers making that move. If Gamel does stick at 3B, the Brewers are set there for a very long time. I've seen Gamel play a few times and he has a MLB bat. Let's not 'make the bat' play again like they did with Braun. Give the kid some time to work with Money. Again, I just don't understand the plug guys around theory. IMO Braun is a better athlete than Gamel and I'm not so sure Gamel would be ready for the MLB OF for a few years. He would need some time to make it work. I think Gamel will be at 3B or 1B. If the Brewers traded Hart now, I think they would just plug Nelson in (not saying that's right or wrong) and Gamel wouldn't be in the discussion for 2009 in the OF.
  10. But Gamel does have to be atleast a decent MLB third baseman to get called up early. Doesn't look like it will ever happen. Have you seen him play? I'm just curious because everything I hear from those who have seen him play think he'll be fine. Most of his errors are mental.
  11. I have the 'feeling' Gamel will be up this year. I think working with Money again his defense will once again improve. I think if a guy like CC (Counsell -- why is he called CC on some Brewers tv stuff...) goes down Gamel is up. The main issue with calling Mat up is his playing time. I don't want to see him sharing at-bats in Milwaukee. This means Hall will have to stink or be traded. I don't see Hall happy to be Gamel's backup.
  12. I still don't like the blatant reminder that the Brewers were irrelevant for 27 years, and it still seems like we're advertising that fact when we should be hiding it, but oh well.... So if we won the World Series last year should we not put anything up? I don't get your view at all on how there shouldn't be anything. We should celebrate it and hopefully it won't be 25+ years until the next one goes up. I do agree with you that it does look nice. I just think the fact that if the Brewers won the World Series as a WC there would be banners everywhere and if they lost the first series as a WC there shouldn't be anything is kind of a joke. Using that thought winning the division and losing the first series should equal zero banners. Baseball includes the fewest teams of the four 'major' sports...it means something in baseball. The Brewers also weren't irrelevant for 27 years...
  13. I sent in my tax returns yesterday. I just assumed that with most states having no money, that I may or may not see the money anytime soon. Still, much happier to be in Texas and not having to file state taxes. Your refund won't be changed the economy. There are people that do owe taxes and have to pay in by the 15th. The reason you have to fill out all those questions is for the state to determine whether you will owe in the future and at what level you should owe in the current year. I'm assuming you moved and now work in Texas so it has no impact on you. It has an impact when a person lives in a state without income taxes and works in a state with income taxes for a portion of the year. You may not have income tax, but the sales tax in Texas is pretty high...as it is in Tennessee where I live (also no personal income tax). It's nice on a pay check, but man does it hurt on bigger purchases.
  14. More reason for me to dislike the state of Wisconsin. I lived in the state for 1 month at the beginning of last year, then moved to Texas. I had a refund of $119. But to get it, I had to answer all these questions about not living in Wisconsin, not claiming an address in Wisconsin, blah, blah, blah. Because of that, I couldn't e-file my return. So I most definitely won't see my money until July or so! I'm glad Texas doesn't have state income tax. It's not a Wisconsin thing. The questions are to determine your domicile. I believe most states have similar forms/questions. When did you file? I've filed these in the past and clients have received refunds within a month. The longer you wait until the due date the more likely it will take about two months.
  15. How much should I have expected to pay for my accountant to review and amend my 2005 return. All he did was add the child tax credit and/or earned income credit. He charged me over $200. That seems a bit much, but what do I know, right? You are an attorney, right? They bill on an hourly rate (similar to lawyers). I'd guess it would take 1 hour or 1.5 hours to amend the return, copy, process, etc. I'd find out what their hourly rate is in order to determine if it was needed. Did you file the return? Or did a different firm? I'm also going to guess the credit/refund/lower tax on the amended return was much more than the fee.
  16. Salome with 2 passed balls tonight and Gamel with an error- ugh I wouldn't worry about Gamel. He made a heck of a play to even get to the ball. It was a poor though, but it's something that is more mental than anything else. He rushed it and it sailed on him a bit. I'd be more worried about Salome than Gamel, but I'll give Salome some more time to work with the pitchers. The Nashville staff isn't full of guys he's worked with before.
  17. I'd also like to be in for the dvd. Thanks Pedro!
  18. Not very promising especially with the talent in this draft. I agree that it is a weak draft. We'll have to see what the Bucks feel their budget will be next year. Not being in the top 3 might actually be better since it would save some cash (or I guess they could draft an international player). I'd be interested in taking Lawson if the Bucks pick around 10 or so. I know he lacks some size, but IMO he'd be one of the quickest players in the league and he's also a pretty good shooter.
  19. pitch, You may want to link your post: Link I'm assuming the rule at bf.net is still to post links for information that is directly copied from other sites?
  20. I'm kind of glad to see Cincinnati get the traditional home opener this year (for years and years, the Reds opened the season at home with the first pitch always occuring before everybody else's). What does this mean? Are you talking about the Reds 'traditionally' opening up the baseball season? It's been a few years since that has happened if that's the case IIRC. I really do appreciate what CC did last year. It's just that watching him get rocked, even though it is just 1 game, supports the decision to let him go. I don't know how much of a 'decision' it was. The 'decision' was to go after him and another team paid more. I will wait a lot longer to see if that was right, but it probably was a good thing for Milwaukee given CC's pitched a ton of innings.
  21. So is the 'Hurricane' back to being a 2B now? It looks like according to the JS he is the starter. Anyone know what the plan is? I hope Heether gets a good amount of playing time?
  22. I do still wonder why Bray and Bateman never got more of a chance. I've posted this here before, but I think Bray got screwed in '07. I think it's easy for a fan to disagree with that, but these players are people. He had as perfect a year a RP can have and didn't get a shot in September with the team. I think mentally that can be draining and I think for Steve it was. After that year, it was pretty much a sure thing he would never pitch in Milwaukee. I do think the Brewers need to focus more on these situations if they're really ever going to use the minors as a legit option for the bullpen. I know he may be a AAAA player, but with the numbers he had there's no reason he didn't get a shot. His case is exactly why I question how the Brewers treat their pitchers in AAA. I think letting Bateman go is the wrong move. There were rumors he was going to be up in September last year and now he's out of the organization. While he may not have a long MLB career, IMO he would have provided some nice depth in AAA. I guess I'm failing to see what the Brewers are trying to do with their pitching at the higher levels. They lack a ton of pitching prospects in general and to me that means you need to keep these type of guys. Let's just hope we have a healthy year in the bullpen at the MLB level. Bateman IMO is the type of guy that could come up for a few weeks with an injury and do a decent job.
  23. I don't think The Muscle would've picked Milwaukee over Seattle if the money was equal. We really couldn't match the playing time he'll get. Last I heard, he was going to be the starter at 1B for Seattle. I would have loved to have him back. I got to see him crush in Nashville early last year, but to me it's clear he can start for non-playoff type teams and maybe turn that into more money down the road. The Muscle has a huge swing and to me he's the type of guy that is better served playing everyday be it in AAA or MLB in order for him to rake. He shows a lot of rust when he's sitting for long periods. To me, it came down to playing time and I think Melvin understood that.
  24. I knew when there was no mention of who they were traded for that this might be a set up. Well done though, got my heart rate up for a second or two. I agree. I clicked on this a few minutes after it was posted though and I figured the title wasn't edited by a mod yet. The first thing I did was grab my phone to call my friends to see what was up. After clicking on it and reading it, I decided not to make that call. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Well done.
  25. Also, as Jim mentioned, I like being able to flip open my checkbook to see my current balance rather than the hassle of going to my bank web site, going to my account page, typing my username, answering two secrity questions, submitting a password, and then reviewing the activity for anything that hasn't hit yet. I'm very computer literate, and use my bank site all the time, but don't want to jump through those hoops to know my balance every time. I think this might be a bank issue. Once I verify my information on one computer I only need my user name and password and I'm in. Your point about checks not clearing is true and that's the only reason I can understand why balancing a check book is worth it.
