  5. I think the Brewers went with signability mostly because they didn't have a choice given their bonus pool. The Brewers were directly linked to 1 of the 6: I'm sure over the next couple of weeks Ben will put out his top prospect lists with the teams mostly likely to sign, similar to what he did last year. BA's international coverage is excellent.
  6. I'm on the road for a bit but I will look when I get back to the office. This would be the first time the Brewers have been linked to a top prospect this year, and would be welcome news.
  7. Javier Baez of the Cubs had himself quite a night Baez hits four homers on historic night
  8. Rattlers win second straight with 8-2 decision over Clinton Wagner, Taylor, and Garza lead the way By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got a strong pitching performance from Tyler Wagner with timely hitting from Tyrone Taylor and Mike Garza to defeat the Clinton LumberKings 8-2 Monday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wagner earned his sixth win of the season while Taylor and Garza both knocked in three runs to lead Wisconsin to its second straight win. Clinton (30-33) scored in the top of the first inning. Wagner walked the leadoff batter. A ground out moved that runner into scoring position. Guillermo Pimentel followed with an RBI single to put the LumberKings in front. But, they didn't stay in front for long. Michael Reed singled to start the Wisconsin half of the first. Alfredo Rodriguez moved Reed into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt. Taylor was at the plate when Reed stole third base and scored on an errant throw. That tied the game 1-1. The LumberKings went back into the lead in the top of the fourth. Marcus Littlewood doubled with one out to set the stage. Jordy Lara singled to left with two outs and Littlewood scored for a 2-1 lead. But, this Clinton lead didn't last long either. Taylor, who was hit by a pitch in the first inning, was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the fourth. There was one out when Adam Giacalone lined out to third. Taylor had strayed too far from the bag and there was a chance to double him off to end the inning. But, the throw to first was wild and Taylor took second base. Garza cashed in the opportunity for the Rattlers with an single to left to drive in Taylor with the tying run. Wisconsin (26-33) took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning. Chris McFarland drew a walk and Michael Reed singled with one out to put two runners on base. Rodriguez was swinging away this time and singled to drive in McFarland for a 3-2 lead. Taylor, who was named the Midwest League's Player of the Week earlier in the day, was next and he singled to drive in Reed and the Rattlers led 4-2. Wagner struck out six and scattered six hits over six innings to put himself in line for his sixth win of the season. The Timber Rattlers offense secured that win for Wagner with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. McFarland singled, Reed walked, and Rodriguez singled to load the bases. That brought Taylor to the plate with the infield drawn in to cut down the runner at the plate. Taylor lined a single through the infield to drive in two runs for a 6-2 lead. Later in the inning, Garza smacked a two-out, two-run single for the 8-2 score. Martin Viramontes pitched two scoreless innings and Jono Armold worked a 1-2-3 ninth out of the Wisconsin bullpen to finish off the LumberKings. Wisconsin begins a road trip on Tuesday with a game in Beloit, Wisconsin against the Snappers. Damien Magnifico (5-1, 3.67) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Beloit has Raul Alcantara (7-1, 2.65) as their scheduled starter. Game time at Pohlman Field is 7:00pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280 or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:40pm. WP: Tyler Wagner (6-4) LP: Anthony Vasquez (0-1) TIME: 2:44 ATTN: 3,404 Wisconsin Boxscore This was a fun game to watch. Have I mentioned Tyrone Taylor at all in the last week? Chris covered him in detail above and I'm sure he'll cover Tyrone in the blog as well but I have something I want to add (again). Tyrone doesn't flinch when getting hit by a pitch, in fact he turns into it, drops his bat, and takes his base, HE'S A FREAKING MAN! The good Martin Viramontes showed up tonight, he's been erratic, check out his stat line in the link. Chris McFarland hasn't been playing much for whatever reason, but he's been hitting better when he does, unfortunately he committed his 9th error of the season tonight. Wisconsin Recap Another very busy game log. Wisconsin Gameday
  9. I know his ERA is much better but the guy I thought should have been there from the start was Tyler Wagner.
  10. Greg Reynolds a RHP for the Reds and Kyle Hendricks a RHP for the Cubs represent the division this week. Pitchers of the Week
  11. Anthony Garcia a Cards' OF prospect and as MH noted our own Tyrone Taylor are the divisional winners. It's too bad Taylor's streak came on draft week or he would have been a candidate for the BA hot sheet, he still can be if he keeps it going. Offensive Players of the Week
  12. BA fixed the 2013 Draft Database since I last checked it Saturday night. The binoculars are the scouting reports and the calculator gives the pool plus the amount the team can go over without forfeiting a draft pick. It's handy.

  15. There has been discussion for some time around here about adding extra coaches at every level to help spread the load and get our athletes more individual coaching time. This is a very interesting article (subscriber) about the Rockies doing just that, at least bf.net is a ahead of the curve even if the Brewers aren't! 17. I'm down with that move... get him to his best position ASAP and let him settle in.
  18. If we can't do better than Ishikawa in-house... well... I don't even want to consider what that means.
  19. First. MLB.com draft day scouting reports are basically worthless in the context of this discussion. MLB has a vested interest in making fans feel good about every single draft pick, which is why all of the scouting reports tend to be so overwhelming positive. Also, there's no progression of scouting reports like you can get from better sources, such as Baseball America. I do read MLB draft day reports, but beyond draft day those reports hold little long-term value. As far as Zach Lee, the fact that Lee is "a fairly safe bet to become a quality 3" means that he has a high floor, it doesn't mean he has a low ceiling. The only thing holding him back is that he doesn't have a strike out pitch, that's why he's getting the "3" label. I don't think developing plus pitches is all that easy, but he already tops out at 95 and has room to develop more velocity, he'd be a good trade target as he does have #2 upside if he can find a strike out pitch, in fact more velocity might be enough to give him that edge. I do worry about any pitcher's ability to miss bats so I have my concerns, much like I do when discussing our own pitching prospects like Jungmann and Hall, I'm a big believer in K rate as a indicator of future success.
  20. I don't think it's a user issue with a double post, I think it's something server side. If you edit the first post the 2nd one edits as well, if you delete one, both get deleted.

  23. It looks like Albert Almora is a keeper, my goodness he's hit well since recovering from the broken hamate bone. I wish the Cubs weren't drafting so well, and yes I understand they've been picking high in the 1st round. Almora hits first Midwest League homer
  24. He's not a prospect, but Cubs' news none the less Stewart hits three homers, plates eight
