  1. BA's scouting report on Devin Williams: Scouts noted Williams' projectable frame at last summer's USA Baseball Breakthrough Series, where the 6-foot-3, 172-pounder worked at 85-88 mph from a loose, easy delivery. He has reached his fastball velocity sooner than anticipated, jumping to 91-93 mph last fall at the World Wood Bat Association World Championships and often showing the same heat this spring. He usually pitches at 88-92 mph with his two-seam fastball and can approach 95 with his four-seamer. Though Williams is inconsistent with his mechanics and his stuff, when he's at his best he stays closed and direct with his delivery and exhibits feel for three pitches. His breaking ball can get slurvy but also can be a low-80s slider at the knees, and his fading, sinking changeup can throw hitters off balance. He's athletic and his arm works well. A Missouri recruit, Williams has looked like a first-round pick at times. While there's speculation that the Cardinals could take the suburban St. Louis product at No. 28, he fits better in the second round.
  2. So are the Cards, this stinks, and now we go to commercial for the Brewers pick. Wonderful.
  3. Well there goes Blake Taylor... dang.
  4. I guess stand corrected, my information came from a football clinic I attended years ago.
  5. I'm excited that Green has dropped this far, but at the same time I'd fear he'd be major bust with the Brewers, the closer the pick gets the more I think maybe Taylor would be the better pitching choice if they were going to go the LHP HS route.
  6. only 18 picks away, I might fall asleep by then.
  7. After losing the 1st round pick the Brewers have the 2nd lowest pool allotment in MLB if I remember correctly.
  8. Just checked back in, Wily got marginally better as the game went on 99 pitches but only 56 for strikes. I really wish he wouldn't have started slow the last couple of years. Remember when people were blaming Mike Maddux for the Brewers pitching struggles? Maybe the problem was the talent DM was bringing in and not one of the better pitching coaches in the game? I sure would love to have him to work with Peralta, Thornburg, and the rest of our young pitchers.
  9. Actually the guy I really want is Hunter Green, but he needs mechanical work which isn't exactly in the Brewer's wheelhouse.
  10. I thinks he's got a legit hit tool from the RH side, not so much from the left, I think he's the fastest player in professional baseball, he has a good arm, I just don't think he's going to develop power. He could be a .740-.770 OPS guy playing a solid CF, I'd take that. Not a super star, but he'll be exciting and add value beyond his OPS with what he can do on the bases.
  11. Yuck, STL nabs another pitcher, LHP Rob Kaminsky an exciting prospect.
  12. The Reds take a CF at 27, can never have too many CF prospects even with Hamilton at AAA.
  13. Yep his true ceiling is probably a #3 but he'll pitch like a #2 just to rub it into us.
  14. Well BA lilkes the Gonzalez pick by STL, I don't see much upside there as he pitches 88-91 with his FB, however his change drew a 70 grade on the 20-80 scouting scale. BA says he's the most polished pitcher in the draft.
  15. No the picks speed up once the 1st round is over, we go down to 2 minutes between picks, so half the time. edit. Actually it's 2 minutes for the supplemental and then 1 minute for round 2.
  16. Zach Lee: Matt Magill: Joc Pederson:
  17. I'll give you a guess, but not specific, I think they would have been targeting one of the College/JC position players as this draft is fairly thin that way. Tim Anderson was a good pick at #17. I don't think the Brewers would have picked him, Eric Jagielo from ND maybe? A 3B prospect, I couldn't see them taking a SS with Segura, Arcia, and Rivera in the pipeline, even though I believe in BPA.
  18. I know it's not fair, but I'd rather not take another player from Indiana, and yes that's directly related to Arnett. I know it's Indiana St and not the Big Ten Indiana, but still... plus his injury concerns. I'd rather not have another Roache (ceiling aside), draft guys whom are healthy when you don't have don't really have picks to waste.
  19. And now Arcia makes a great play picking a ball deflected by Magnifico all the way behind 2B on the edge of the OF grass, wheeling and firing home to get the runner by plenty to end the Snappers' 4th. edit. ... and John Maino drives me nuts, that is all.
  20. No idea who the Brewers would have taken at 17, the pick was traded before a mock draft came out and the Brewers are notorious at keeping their cards close to the vest. The one poster that routinely nailed the Brewers' pick doesn't post anymore. edit. traded... taken... it's all the same.
  21. Tyrone Taylor just popped out in foul territory behind 3B, the play by Renato Nunez was as good as I've seen an IF make this year. I wonder if it will end up in the highlights even though it was made the by opposing team. Still 0-0 going to the 4th.
  22. I've been watching the T-Rats, following the draft, and following this game on Gameday. Wily had the bases loaded in the 1st and he's not throwing many strikes, 34 pitches and only 19 strikes so far.
  23. And the Pirates draft the best prep C in Reese McGuire.
  24. lol let's just give doug melvin his own special category You mean Bruce Seid who has been in control of the draft since 2009?
  25. Hard to bag on either of the divisional picks so far. 2 potential impact hitters and coming into the year, Pirates pick Austin Meadows was the best prep bat in the country, Frazier just passed him up. The Pirates have another pick coming at 14.
