  1. Was he on again yesterday? I missed the game. I liked him for what he said, he told it straight, no sugar coating, no teamspeak, just baseball. I can see where others would be turned off by his voice but it didn't bother me, I liked his substance enough the presentation didn't bother me.
  2. If Scarpetta gets to pitch, and I see that as a very remote possibility, I'll be bery curious to see how he's progressed because the only pitch he threw that had any wow factor to it in WI was his curveball, and it was inconsistent. This has to be a move purely for convenience given his 40 man roster status. Though I'm not sure I understand what the big deal is considering the other spots available and I'm also curious as to what's wrong with McClendon? Scarpetta has serious work to do control wise and while it will be nice for him to get a taste of bigs, I really don't even like this move for a single day. I'd rather he get his 100 pitches today than worry about him providing blowout relief, there had to be other options than Scarpetta. I'm happy with Gamel going down, no reason to waste service time pinch hitting. edit. "pitching hitting"? sigh.
  3. As that old article points out, I'm not sure the IRS could force someone to pay taxes on a ball they caught, more likely only play taxes on it's sale. I'd negotiate with the player for some reasonable memorabelia which I wouldn't keep, I'd donate to it charity auctions for our sports programs at school, I'm just not into that sort of thing, not a collector by any stretch. If they wanted to do the suites thing like with Jeter I really couldn't even take advantage being over 2 hours away, I'm sure I'd have a lot of new friend who wanted to use the suites...
  4. Yes I'm happy for the Pirates mostly because the organizaiton was widely criticized for investing it's profit sharing money into player development as opposed to spending money on free agents. The organization is on the right track and definitely on the upswing. As for being a threat this season, it's tough to say, I would have thought they were a couple of years away coming into the season. I won't just dismiss them, but over the next couple of years the only team that really won't be a threat is Houston.
  5. It's all about Omens... or something! Thank you gentlemen for finally hanging a loss on Cordero.
  6. Well second big opportunity tonight for McGehee. edit. It we don't win now... a freaking infield hit for McGehee, that's a once a season occurence.
  7. Thinking about it... Braddock used to be 93 on the low side, I'm not sure a sleep disorder saps that much zip. I could be wrong, I just don't have any personal experience with it myself or having worked with any kids that were suffering from that sort of thing.
  8. Not that I'm ever into being down runs going into the 9th, but I sure would love to hang blown save and a loss on him just once.
  9. If Manzanillo keeps throwing strikes he'll be an intriguing BP arm with that upper 90s gas, not this year, but next year. We have a bunch of relief pitchers on the verge of the bigs.
  10. Who cares as long he is not 5 or 10 minutes late ? Because it's much easier to sneak a mistake 95-96 MPH FB past a guy than a 90-91 MPH?
  11. So I go play some fallout, the Brewers come all the way back and Kotsay hits another bomb? He's solidified his roster spot for the rest of the year... Hopefully the pen can nail this down.
  12. Gamel.... *sigh* could have at least saved a run if not gotten an out.
  13. Wow thank goodness he swung threw that... hung a slider belt high down the middle.
  14. Zack sure does seem to get a lot of swings and misses on balls out of the zone. I agree with Danzig, I'd just sit FB on him and look for one I could handle. Geez Gamel out guessed himself there, that was a nice pitch to hit.
  15. Not sure, he's a rare pitcher that has 4 plus pitches, but he mostly sticks with 3, his slider is either great or it's a terrible hanger over the middle of the plate and his FB rarely hits the catcher in where he's setup. He's an enigma.
  16. Hitting a mistake... I already like Rillo in the booth. edit. I'm going to have to stop watching Greinke starts, I just end up getting pissed because his stuff is so good but he just won't stop grooving pitches.
  17. Well that pitch to Votto just stunk. Hopefully that's it for the night though.
