  1. Am I the only one with a messed Helena box score?
  2. Angel's problem with the CS % wasn't his arm, he's got an absolute cannon, apparently he had a hitch in his delivery. He's plenty talented enough to be a good defensive catcher, most our hesitation around here comes from Money's various comments about Angel maybe having to repeat AAA. That could be posturing trying to light a fire under a guy, or it could be the organization isn't very happy at all with his game calling and defense. I personally have no basis of comparison other than his caught stealing percentage, I've never been fortunate enough to see him play, and listening on the web doesn't provide clues along those lines. Well maybe it would, but I haven't listened to more than a handful of Sounds' games all season.
  3. AAA is a place to stash depth, and it's full pitchers like Chris Cody who know how to pitch but need to prove they can consistently get hitters out. Hard throwing guys who don't throw enough strikes also get stuck in AAA while teams wait for them to figure it out. It's a different style of pitching and the position players are guys that know how to play game. What it isn't though is a proving ground, the litmus test for prospects is the jump from A+ to AA. Handle AA, especially the SL, and I'm jumping on the bandwagon. Prospects are in AAA for 2 reasons, service time and seasoning. Everyone else is fringe MLB quality trying to prove they belong.
  4. The fact that everyone knows we have a SS in waiting in Escobar certainly isn't helping Hardy's trade value.
  5. They are out of it and were out of it before the trading deadline, I was thankful a deal wasn't made. The Brewers are currently 15th out of 16 teams in total pitching, this team is going nowhere. In 2007 the Rockies were 8th in total pitching, the best year they've had this decade (until 2009, they are currently 6th), and better than the Brewers the same year. I'm not sure how citing a once in a generation run is proof of anything. Sure it might happen again, and I might win the lottery too.
  6. I'm not sure what you're referring to, I've never had to give any credit card information... and it does scan your downloads, at least it does mine, I didn't alter any settings. I should add that I noticed it installed a FF plug-in this time around to scan downloads.
  7. The NFL system certainly has it's flaws, but the Packers have to means to sign any FA they want, TT just doesn't believe in trying to build through FA so he avoids it. Sherman on the hand, had some colossal busts in FA. I stand by opinion that anyone who thinks the NFL doesn't have competitive balance doesn't understand the game very well. Baseball will never reach the NFL's level because every MLB team signs it's own TV contract, and not all markets and deals are the same. The Packers couldn't compete in the NFL either without revenue sharing, and they are always around the top of the league in popularity and merchandising. There's simply no way the Fox Valley would generate the same revenue as any other team in the league if the NFL played under MLB's rules.
  8. I'm not sure you fully understand what I was getting at. I was under the impression that regardless of what happens we only had control of a drafted player for 6 years in the minors. I have since been corrected and understand that it's 6 full season, plus the 3 option years. I'm all for slowly bringing along pitchers, I've posted as such so many times in different threads on the MLB forum. However, as Rogers used his first option this season, I still believe that they have to push him out 100 IP this season... then he can go 130 next season, 160 the following year and be ready to fill in for injury. If we don't get him to 160 by 2011 he's either going to have to pitch out of the pen or we've spent all this time developing him for a different organization as he'll be out of options. Losing 2 full years of pitching and protecting him from the rule 5 draft has brought us to a point where they are going to have to challenge him a bit to get him ready. I'm not talking anything outrageous, I think 100, 130, 160 is still a pretty conservative plan. As I was driving around for work thinking about the minor league pitching situation the last couple of weeks I've decided that Braddock is a non prospect until he proves he can stay healthy. I'm not saying I've written him off, I'm simply saying he's not an option for the organization if he's unable to stay healthy. Braddock has never reached the 100 IP plateau in his career, I did think he'd be alright this season considering his most recent surgery relatively minor, but he once again has forearm/elbow pain. My worst fears would be that they havevn't correctly diagnosed him yet again or that his body just isn't going to hold up regardless what they do with him. I'll continue to hope for the best, but I don't feel anywhere near as good about him now as I did in June.
  9. Which minor league season? Nashville plays until the 7th of September regardless. That's enough time 3-4 starts if they wanted to go that route.
  10. I use AVG free like most people who posted in this thread.
  11. Final: Lakeland (Tigers) 8, Brevard County 5 Brevard County Box Score Schafer, Farris, Wilson, Errecart, Haydel, and Wheeler all with multihit games, that's 1-6 in the order. Errecart adds a double and Wheeler a HR, Brewer and Maldonano the only Manatees without a hit. Roger's night detailed above, he lowers his ERA to 1.97. 12. Final: Mississippi (Braves) 9, Huntsville 1 Huntsville Site Summary Braves Break Open Close Game to Beat Huntsville By Brett Pollock / Huntsville Stars Kyle Cofield worked six solid innings and a seven-run eighth inning broke open a close game in Mississippi's 9-1 victory over Huntsville Saturday night in the second of a five-game set at Joe Davis Stadium. The Braves have taken the first two games to improve to 21-21 in the second half and 52-60 overall, while the Stars dropped a fifth straight to fall to 15-27 in the second half and 53-58 overall. The Stars have fallen in ten of their last 11 games and are 20-27 at home. The Stars loaded the bases in the home second on a single and two walks but Cofield worked out of trouble by getting Adam Stern to ground into an inning-ending double play. The Braves strung together three singles to load the bases with one out in the third before Stars' starter Nick Green was able to escape any damage when Brandon Hicks lined into an inning-ending double play. Jason Heyward led off the fourth inning with a single and scored the game's first run on a two-out double by Eric Campbell. The Braves added a run in the sixth when Campbell singled home Freddie Freeman with two outs to knock Green out of the game after the right-hander had allowed seven hits, walked one and fanned four. Green has lost both of his starts with the Stars. Cofield had retired 10 straight Huntsville hitters until Shane Justis led off the home sixth with a double, moved to third base on a ground ball out and scored on a wild pitch. The right-hander was lifted after allowing three hits, walking three and fanning three. Cofield beat the Stars for a second time this season and raised his record to 8-3. Deunte Heath, Jerome Gamble and Kevin Gunderson blanked Huntsville on one hit over the final three innings, as the home side collected only two hits after the second inning. Juan Sandoval's two-run throwing error on a sacrifice bunt attempt sparked the Braves' rally in the eighth, as the visitors scored seven times with three hits, three errors, three walks, a hit batter and three fielder's choice grounders. Matt Young collected three hits and walked twice and has reached base in nine of his 12 plate appearances in the series. Campbell, Kody Kirkland, Phillip Britton and Heyward each added two hits as part of a 14-hit attack. The Braves have totaled 27 hits in the first two games. The series continues Sunday afternoon with right-hander Mark Holliman taking the hill for the Stars against Braves' southpaw Jose Ortegano. Coverage of the game begins at 12:45 pm central time and can be heard through the internet at www.huntsvillestars.com. Huntsville Box Score Anderson 2-4 with a double, Justis 1-4 with a double, and a single out of Hopf the only offense in this one. Green posts one of his better outings on the season, going 5.2 IP with 7H, 2ER, 1BB, and 4Ks. Bramhall wild but effective in his 1.1. Sandoval doesn't record a single out in the 8th, Wahpepah finishes the game. 4 errors in the game, 3 errors in the 8th alone. Opposing Pitcher Cofield should have been a familiar name, I just profiled him in yesterday's Link Report. Huntsville Game Log The Mississippi 8th.... 13. Final: Peoria (Cubs) 14, Wisconsin 5 Wisconsin Site Game Summary Peoria perpetuates Wisconsin's skid By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers PEORIA, IL - The Peoria Chiefs scored eight times in the fourth inning to get out to a 10-0 lead. They held off the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers the rest of the way for a 14-5 win. Nelson Perez hit a three-run homer in the big inning and the Chiefs banged out 19 hits against the Rattlers. The Chiefs (62-48 overall, 24-17 second half) grabbed an early lead with a pair of runs in the first inning. Brett Jackson singled to start the inning. Ryan Flaherty followed with an RBI double to left-center. One out later, Kyler Burke singled to drive in Flaherty. Peoria pulled away from a struggling Wisconsin team in the fourth inning. R.J. Seidel gave up back-to-back singles to start the inning. After a wild pitch moved the runners to second and third, Perez drilled a 1-2 pitch over the right field wall for a three-run homer and a 5-0 lead. An infield hit, a walk, and a fielder's choice followed to put runners at the corner with one out. Flaherty singled to drive in a run and knock Seidel out of the game. Rigoberto Almonte entered at that point and was greeted with an RBI single by Rebel Ridling and a two-run double by Kyler Burke to make the score 9-0. Almonte got the second out of the frame with a strikeout, but Jovan Rosa doubled in the eighth run of the frame for a 10-0 lead. Wisconsin (48-63, 14-27) got on the scoreboard with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning. Josh Prince scored from third on a wild pitch to stop Peoria's shutout bid. Brock Kjeldgaard ran his hitting streak to eight games with an RBI single later in the inning. But the Chiefs were not done with the scoring. D.J. LeMahieu doubled in a run in the sixth inning. Mario Mercedes knocked in a run with a single and Junior Lake's RBI fielder's choice made it 13-2. Rosa knocked in the final Peoria run of the night with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. Brett Lawrie made some noise in the top of the eighth inning. Prince reached on an error and Pete Fatse doubled. Then, Lawrie lined a long home run to left. The blast, Lawrie's eleventh of the season, made the score 14-5 and wrapped up the night for the offenses. Alberto Cabrera was the winning pitcher for Peoria. He went five scoreless innings, allowed three hits, and struck out two for his sixth victory of the season. The loss was the seventh straight for the Rattlers. Wisconsin is 3-21 in their last 24 games. Game three of the series is Sunday afternoon. Trey Watten (4-11, 4.30) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Chris Archer (3-4, 2.82) is set to start for the Chiefs. Game time is 2:00 PM. Wisconsin Box Score I was really excited about this WI team coming into the season, I even thought they would make the playoffs in the 2nd half. This collapse has caught me totally by surprise, I'm shocked. The Good... Lawrie goes 2-4 with a HR (11), Fatse 1 for 1 with a double and 3 more walks. That's 6 walks for Peter in the last 2 games. The Bad.... Kemp of all people with a CS? Fatse with a CS. The Ugly... Seidel gives up 8 runs, 7 earned in 3.1, Almonte gives up 2ER in .2IP, Nieves gives up 4ER in 4IP. Wisconsin Game Log Peoria's bottom of the 4th all they would need. Peoria Bottom 4th DJ LeMahieu singles on a ground ball to pitcher R. Seidel. 14. Game 2 in Billings is delayed with a huge thunderstorm that is dropping hail the size of Kix cereal according to Steve. I doubt they'll be back out, Helena is up 1-0. Edit. Game 2 was indeed suspended.
  15. Final Game 1: Billings (Reds) 2, Helena 1 (7 Innings) Helena Game 1 Box Score Brownstein and Ellington with a hit a piece, Stang with 2 Hits including a double and that was it for the offense in game 1. I detailed Krestalude's line above, he deserved a better fate. Dykstra with the key error, his 13th of the season (throwing). Helena Game 1 Game Log The H-Crew had a chance to get more in the 3rd, but Stang gets picked off of 2nd. Helena doesn't threaten again till the 7th when the tying run gets nailed at the plate. 17. Odorizzi blows away the hitters in his 2IP, I doubt he'll come out for a 3rd.
  18. Helena drops game 1, and unearned run proved the difference. Krestalude did give up 6 hits and 1ER in 5IP but walked none and struck out 4. Rogers goes 3.2IP as was cruising along until he hit his pitch count. He gave up 2H, 2BB, 0R, with 4K in his 3.2. Errecart has 3 hit game thus far BC up 4-2 in the 6th. Nashville has just gotten underway no score after 1 complete. Seidel and Almonte get crushed, the T-Rats are down 10-0 in the 6th. Game 2 in Helena has just gotten underway.
  19. Is anyone else out there trying to pickup the T-Rats feed? I'm getting nothing through either WNAM feed I use, anyone having any luck?
  20. Brett interviews Kevin Melillo. They were having some fun with the interview trying to break the slump so I cut off the interview and switched to Steve Wendt in Helena when that interview started.? The buzz you hear every minute or so is not your speakers, I'm test driving a new capturing program and that's what the evaluation version does.
  21. Steve interviews UDFA Mitch Miller.
  22. Those pitchers you talk of with polish... they don't have upside... so you think we would have solve our pitching problems by drafting more low ceiling players? More 4/5 types? The problem in my opinion was an issue of quantity of high ceiling pitchers. We only had a couple, and when they got hurt we were left with nothing.
  23. That would have been prospects wisely spent because this team is 1 reliever away... Seriously... lets fix the rotation before wasting any more money or prospects on the bullpen
  24. AAA is a full season playoff race.
  25. Wow the Southern League leader boards are depressing to look at, not many prospects on the board. Hitting (Qualified) AVE - Chris Heisey a 24 year old CF prospect in the Reds organization is still your league leader even though he was promoted a long time ago. Justis and Anderson are the Stars in the top 10, at 6 and 7 respectively, with a .307 and .306 average. OBP - Tyler Flowers a 23 year old C prospect of the Whit Sox is your league leader with a .445! He has also been promoted to AAA. The only Star in the top 10 is Anderson with a .389 SLG - Chris Heisey and Tyler Flowers are 1 and 2 on this list, with a .572 and .548 respectively. Anderson is 10th with a .462. OPS - Given what's happened above there is no surprise here as Heisey and Flowers are again 1 and 2 with a .998 and .993. Drew Anderson makes the top 10 in 8th with an .851. BB - Finally a Brewer and a prospect in the top 5, Jonathan Lucroy is 3rd with 63 walks on the season. The league leader is a 26 year old LF in the Braves system named Matt Young, he has 72 on the season. SO - No Stars in the top 20, or bottom 20 as it were, the league leader in a bad way is Greg Halman of the Mariners. He's a 21 year old top prospect rated #1 in the Mariner system by BA for whatever that is worth. Pitching (Qualified) ERA - The league leader is Travis Wood a 22 year old LHP pitcher for the Reds with a 1.21, he has since been promoted to AAA. Unfortunately he's a name we're going to get familiar with. Donovan Hand is the only Star in the top 10 placing 6th, with a 3.56 SO - Once again the leader was Travis Wood with 103, Scott Diamond a Braves prospect who just turned 23 will pass him with his next start, he currently has 101. The top Star is in 15th with 74... if you guessed Bobby Bramhall you know your prospects better than I do. WHIP - Once again the leader is Travis Wood with a .97, Donovan Hand came in 6th and is the only Star in the top 20. BB - Mark Holliman of the Stars comes in giving up the 11th most BBs in the league with 43. The league leader is 22 year old Braves prospect Kyle Cofield with 67. Kyle does have 70 Ks on the season and 3.62 ERA. IP - Holliman has the most IP by any Stars pitcher with 104, the league leader is D'Backs prospect Matt Torra who's 25 year old RHP with a 137. It's extremely depressing that our best starter from this group was Cody who's been average in AAA. Holliman has accumultaed those 104 IP in 20 starts... Team Batting The Stars are 5th in AVE with a .258, 6th in OBP with .336, 7th in SLG with .363, 7th in OPS with .700, 4th in BB with 418, last in SO with 617 (a good thing), and tied for last with only 68 Stolen Bases on the season. Team Pitching The Stars are last in IP with 949, 9th in ERA with a 4.28, 9th (good) in BB with 368, 6th in SO with 754, tied for 7th (3 way) in WHIP with a 1.42, but they've given up 3rd most Hits in the league with 986 thus far on the season. They've also given up the 2nd most HR of any team with 89 on the season trailing Mobile who's given up 96.
