  1. Lets play six... I can't wait till that's a daily occurrence post draft when AZ and Helena are playing everyday as well
  2. obviously I'm on board with the DH idea as I mentioned it a couple of weeks ago in the Gamel thread, the problem is the corresponding roster move?
  3. Wooten has some crazy peripherals... check out this line. G IP H R ER BB K ERA 9 9.1 8 3 1 3 14 0.96
  4. Manny and his big innings... the 6th could of have been worse... It would be different it he was *just* missing, but most of those pitches weren't even close. I have thing for lefties being left handed myself, and he's so talented, but when he gets wild it's maddening. I'm trying to think of another player I rooted for so hard for but pissed me off so much and I'm coming up empty. The closest player in any sport was probably Nick Davis, the WR/KR for the Badgers years ago. edit. I can't be the only one who's intimidated by setting up an IGT?
  5. Butler with a much better effort tonight and Braddock comes in and gets 2 swinging strike outs in his first inning. Brewer with his 9th error of the season. Haydel, Farris, and Miranda especially with nice days at the plate. The pitching in the WI game doing a decent job and the hitters who've gotten hits all have 1 hit a piece thus far. Lawrie with an unassisted DP.
  6. If Soup can limit the BBs he'll be respectable, if not he'll have a long season. Yesterday I thought he left a ton of pitches up in the zone but for whatever reason the batters swung right through them. I'm not sure if he was just fortunate or caught them looking for something else but it worked out. He limited his BBs and XBHs and put up a solid performance, I won't take that away from him.
  7. What does moving Fielder for pitching have to do with this thread at all? Who even suggested it? You took one comment I made which was effectively "anyone can play 1B better than Fielder and if his offense is even league average the crew would likely be getting more total wins" and you ran with it and shredded Brad, and continue to shred him. I used Nelson as an example, because I really didn't care who the replacement player was, I wasn't comparing offensive statistics between them, in the exact same way I wasn't comparing Escobar's offensive output to Hardy's all off-season. Think what you want to think, believe what you want to believe, but no one in this thread has said anything about Nelson being a full time player. Most are happy he's actually with the big club and are pulling for him to productive and make the most of his opportunity, that's about it. I'm happy for him in the same way I'm happy for Corporan, it's nice to see people chase down their dreams and be truly thankful for the opportunity. He's almost exactly a replacement level player at this point according to projections, how many bench players around the league project better than replacement level? Isn't that the whole point of basing metrics off of the fictitious replacement level player?
  8. Huntsville postponed btw. I'm not too pleased with all the BBs Scarpetta has been issuing lately, they came out of nowhere... this whole WI staff has been like that, bad pitches in bunches, like once it starts it doesn't stop. He did a nice job getting out of the inning and righting the ship though. Has anyone else noticed the relative ease that opposing batters are swiping bases against WI this season? Is there a site with updated defensive numbers for 2009? I'm really curious about the percentages in the running game but my usual sites baseball ref, cube, minor league splits, all have nothing for 2009.
  9. I was waiting for someone else to post it, but here's the chat transcript from today.
  10. That was very well said and I second that notion.
  11. Laynce Nix? You've made your disdain for Nelson abundantly clear the past couple of years, but the dude can hit. No he's not Fielder, but how many players are capable of hitting 50 HR in a season? Brad will do fine once he gets that hit, he won't set the world on fire, but we don't need our bench players to do that.
  12. Cody and Scarpetta yay... interesting to see if Butler can keep it going without good secondary numbers.
  13. Yes but if he stays healthy then we're shortening the window he actually stays in Milwaukee, which is why the options help. James Shields rhp 4 years/$11.25M (2008-11), plus 2012-14 club options * 4 years/$11.25M (2008-11), plus 2012-14 club options o signed extension with Tampa Bay 1/23/08 o 08:$1M, 09:$1.5M, 10:$2.5M, 11:$4.25M, 12:$7M club option ($2M buyout), 13:$9M club option ($1.5M buyout), 14:$12M club option ($1M buyout) o value of 2012-14 club options may increase package to $38M o performance bonuses based on innings pitched, starts, and Cy Young voting may increase package to $44M * 1 year/$0.3949M (2007) o re-signed 3/07 * 1 year (2006) o contract purchased 11/05 * ML service: 2.125 I would be absolutely thrilled with that contract, if Gallardo got hurt they'd be on the hook for less than 10 million dollars total, and look at how reasonable those option years are through 2014. That's the kind of deal you sign the guy whom you expect to anchor your staff to. This is the year to do it, even though Yo didn't pitch last year he still earned service time, he's a stud.
  14. I have an extreme dislike for his new batting stance. I'll never understand why players want to put so much unnecessary extra motion into their swings, in addition to creating timing issues, it's very difficult to repeat complicated movements. Maybe it's just because I had the KISS principles drilled into me for so long but the more simple and natural the batting stance, the better off you're going to be. Yes some guys have immense talent and can have success with the exaggerated movements, but the average to above player is going to struggle with all that extra garbage in their swing, pitching motion, etc.
  15. The Fridays end of the stadium is open when the parking lot opens, or at least was in the past, you just have to tell the stadium employees that you'd like to go to the restaurant. A good friend of mine has season tickets behind home plate, before he got married I'd come down to a couple of games a year and we go in early to watch batting practice and eat at Fridays or the 300 Club (I prefer the old name), which is how I know about the 1 hour rule at a table. Since he got married his wife takes the other seat and I've started buying small ticket packages, so it's been 2 years since I've done the Fridays thing, but that's how it used to work.
  16. I think the opposite...lock him up right now to a James Shields type deal, get some years of FA with an option or 2. Get the cost certainty, with longevity and a team discount, then they can focus their attention elsewhere.
  17. He raved about Lucroy, was complementary of Corporan, so should we take from that one liner that he's disappointed with Salome? Or was that a matter of fact type statement? I would have worded it differently myself if I wasn't upset with the player, I don't have a good read on Macha yet. I guess I took it as blunt criticism as opposed to matter of fact, we'll see.
  18. There no doubt the playoff appearance likely had an impact on ticket sales this season and possibly the new FSN deal, which will help with the payroll, that's very logical and I have no problem with that. However Sheets getting injured was one of the exact scenarios I argued when people were making the claim that Sabathia guaranteed a playoff spot. I just don't see how it's fair to say "what if" with the offense, defense, Sheets, etc and ignore the other side... what if Sabathia would have been merely been very good instead of putting together one of the all time great stretches in MLB history? It goes both ways... what if the team had acquired a longer term solution and the offense didn't collapse? Would the outcome have been different? We don't know, and we never will, so while it's fair to say the team wouldn't have made the playoffs post Sabathia deal without him, it's not fair to claim acquiring him was the only way we could have made the playoffs. The dominoes likely wouldn't have fallen the exact same way if a different move was made, though I do believe Sheets would have gotten hurt regardless. Another aside but it really stinks that we lost 2 draft picks to that injury... (sigh).
  19. While there's no guarantee I feel as good about LaPorta as I do Gamel... have you even looked at his stats this season? He'll hit and hit very well for 6+ years in Cleveland. In terms of WAR, that's a very lopsided deal for Cleveland... 6 years of Laporta alone will net more WAR than CC did for the crew in 2/3 of a single season. If Brantley becomes a starter it slants even heavier towards CLE, very simple math. The only thing that would make the deal even is the unquantifiable aspect of a playoff appearance and what happens with the 2 draft picks if they ever hit the majors. How any of us feels about the playoff appearance is a matter of personal opinion, it matters very little to me... the best thing about it is that I don't have to hear about '82 anymore. The draft picks are impossible to quantify, revisionist history will bear that out in time. Instead of telling us how we're wrong because the Brewers made the playoffs, how about accepting there is a legit point to the other side of the argument even if you don't agree with it? I don't tell you're wrong because the playoff appearance meant a great deal to you, why crap on us because the Mets collapsed and the Crew rode Sabathia home? The Brewers were a game away from sitting home and how would the Sabathia deal look then? Your continual narrow view of that trade makes me want to put my head through a wall. edit. As good as the Phillies? Maybe with Sheets, but it wasn't even close without him and cold position players. The playoffs are not a "crap shoot". It's about match ups and we simply didn't match up with an overworked Sabathia, Sheets out, and Yo coming back from injury. I'm not going to play the "what if" game with the defensive misplays because the bottom line is the defense and pitching stunk, and the crew was rolled easily.
  20. Gulin my goodness... and here I was claiming that Green and Wright weren't better depth than you. It's going to be a long climb for Salome to get back up to respectability. Clean defense thus far at AAA, though Escobar got picked off tarnishing the good work he's done on the bases thus far, then goes yard for his 2nd HR of the season. I'll take 2-3 HRs from him a month, he just needs to connect on more gappers, no reason he shouldn't have more 2B with his speed. Gamel doing what he does. Katin has really gone cold after such a good start. Bowman.. boo! While those runs were unearned, no way you should have given up so many, be stud when I pimp you. He was doing well with the BBs till later in the game. Ohlmann continues to impress. Lawrie with another hit keeping the AVE around .300, he doesn't BB or K much, about 1:10 with the BBs and 1:6 with the Ks, a .940 OPS and I have no complaints. Sanchez playing LF tonight continues to hit, Trejo at 3B not hitting but an RBI. Rivas continues to pitch very well, a 4:1 K:BB ratio thus far. Gindl 0-4. Wheeler with a bomb, maybe he's coming round. Wilson and Brewer with nice days at the plate, good win for BC. Holy 4th inning Huntsville bailing Jeffress out. Lucroy has a nice game going at the plate but allowed his 4th PB of the seaosn. Outside of the pitchers and Lucroy, I must admit I don't have much enthusiasm for this team, I've only followed boxscores this season, I haven't listend to the audio once. This time last year I had the commercials and their order memorized already. edit. I got fooled by the Nashville box as well, but Gulin still hasn't pitched to expectations.
  21. Well they didn't answer many questions did they? Does this mean the end of MLMW broadcasts? HD? Financial Terms? How many games per season? Do the Bucks still take priority? Inquiring minds want to know these things. A better deal could mean 5-6 mill per season for the payroll.
  22. You missed the point, the players are actually paying the clubhouse staff out of their own pockets, and it's spread around to the entire staff, not just to the manager. The teams don't pay the guys very much... Dhonks would know exactly how this works, as he has experience in the clubhouse.
  23. I did forget about Holland.
  24. Comparing Milwaukee's 1-5 and Texas 1-5, which Milwaukee pitcher would you swap for one of theirs? Hopefully for them Feliz stays healthy because he'll be a stud, but there not much young quality pitching in Texas, so comparing Maddux and Castro doesn't exactly seem fair to me. edit. I don't mean swapping Suppan for Millwood either... I'm talking comparable starters, like would we trade Yo for Millwood, etc.
