  1. You mean that fictitious 20 mil per year over the 85-90 million dollar payroll we already have? Let's say for the sake of argument that CC took the 20/per... that would have meant right now we'd be minus Cameron, Hoffman, and Sabathia would have replaced Looper... Prince likely wouldn't have been signed to a 2 year deal this year and there would be absolutely no hope of resigning Hardy, not that there's any now. I hate to keep pointing this out but people continually ignore the domino effects of any big contract acquired. The team was barely profitable with a playoff appearance at a little over 90 mil, so 85ish seems like a good number year to year. That means we have 85 million for 25 MLB players and signing bonuses for the draft picks. Every year the young talent, the best players on our team, get more expensive. We're the smallest market in baseball with a mid market payroll, how much farther can the team reallistically go? If the Riske and Suppan deals haven't proven the risk involved in FA pitching, I'm not sure what other evidence people will need. The Brewers wouldn't be able to absorb a single bad contract, at least Suppan is still performing, what if he wasn't for that 48 mil? What if Peavy finally has a major injury? Bedard isn't exactly a picture of health either.. Name pitchers aren't going to get it done for us year in and year out. If we want quality pitching we're going to have to target unproven talent like a Zimmerman this year or a Cain 2 years ago. A young unproven pitcher with very good upside who isn't in that top tier of prospects.
  2. It was Santos for his Day/Night splits
  3. Dear me, Don't even think about getting engaged to you know who, while you'll learn a great deal about yourself and relationships, there are better opportunities that you'll let pass you bye while you hold onto something that isn't right and never will be. When you go to college... while playing outdoor basket ball and the NHL 93/94 tournaments are extremely fun, they shouldn't be an everyday occurrence, or at least go to class first. This will make the first of year of school much easier, and you won't miss that Chemistry III mid term you'll forget and have to ace the final just to pass. Buying the car right before you go to college is a horrible idea, just go scout the game for Dad, trust me, you'll never live this one down, even the extended family will joke about it. While the car will be a bad idea, living off campus is worse, ditch the girl... then you won't need the car to visit her or the apartment for "alone time" with her and you can do whatever else was doing and just have random sex wherever. When a certain HR sup gets transferred to Ops and comes walking into your area of responsibility to throw her weight around, just keep your mouth shut after wards, you may not get lucky a second time. Make your move on another you know who at a party a couple of weeks after the incident previously mentioned. She's looking for a way out of a bad relationship and desperately wants you to do something about it. When you first think about buying a house, just do it. No whining about the extra responsibility, it's stupid to rent for 12 years, buy the damn house, your brother becomes a framer and your father picks up finish carpentry working on the lake property, it will work out. In case you end up in a different line of work with different people because you stay in MN after college, start investing as soon as you go full time, it's the best decision I've made.
  4. I just spit up Coke all over everything, why didn't I read this thread sooner.
  5. If you open it up to all users the quality of the writing might reflect negatively on the site... though I guess it's a way to attract some talent. I hope I don't come off as elitist because that's not my intention... for example I have to write a book to get a simple point across, written communication is just not my thing, so someone like myself blogging probably isn't a good idea. Many of the good communicators on the board already have their own blogs but could maybe be convinced to move their blogs to the site. Personally I would love to see more from posters like Bring Back the Stein, just as one example. His posts are extremely well thought out and well written. I would like to see some original ideas out of the more statistically orientated posters... like Rluz's win probability posts, those always led to interesting discussion... other ideas could be humor or scouting related... there's really no limit if people are willing. I sincerely hope that posters will jump on the opportunity to enhance the quality of the site.
  6. I'm extremely jealous of you guys that are able to watch FSN WI
  7. Not just Yost... Parra himself said it and I believe Prince said something about during the scuffle that's not repeatable, though I may have read his lips wrong.
  8. As I type this 6 WI hiters are hitting .200 or worse and the best BA on the team is .250. Scarpetta pitched very well... bunt base hit, sacrfice, and a base hit for the only run. 2 BBs and 10Ks is just freaking awesome, I have no issues with a manufactured run. How did BA have him rated so low in the system?
  9. Ennder I'm as big a Parra fan as you are, we've both been very consistent on that point. I don't think it's stretch to have the opinion that Parra isn't right upstairs. He alluded to it himself this ST, and it's been hinted at in the past by various sources. He doesn't seem to handle negative events very well at all and tends to snow ball on him. His stuff is as good as it gets and he's a LHP but that doesn't mean anything if he's not going to locate and cave in to pressure. If he's missing his spots, there's an error, a player gets a hit on a pretty good pitch... those events seem to temporarily unglue him. That's part of the reason I've always liked Bush, he's a bulldog on the mound and just gets mad, he may not have the best stuff but he's going to compete on every single pitch. I'm not sure Parra is in that same class yet, but if he can get there then look out, we'll have another Ace type pitcher. Does anyone remember Lincecum's first start against the Brewers (I belive it was last summer) where he got lit up early and looked beaten on the mound? I know there were multiple comments in the game thread about it at the time and it's stuck with me. Parra still carries that same demeanor sometimes on the mound, he just looks whipped. Then he'll come out the next inning, his body language is completely different, and he'll mow em down 1, 2, 3. I think it was JB12 that wanted Perez over Parra and if Manny isn't careful Perez is all he's ever going to be.
  10. Wheeler could put himself on the map this season... it would be pretty neat to have a legit 3B prospect (I know Trejo doesn't count yet but just wait!) at every level from AAA to A. With Wilson moving over to 1B but capable of 3B it would make a move for more SP viable again pending what happens this season with Jeffress, Braddock, and Rogers. Cody just keeps on doing his thing but because his name didn't come up much in the pregame audio segments last season I have to believe the organization is thinking he's a reliever. I still believe Cody was more deserving of the Pitcher of the Year award than Jeffress, that decision was made for reasons other than on the field performance. I haven't gone Clancy I swear, but the young man keeps getting results. edit. All of our affiliates should blog and let us know who the pregame interview segment is going to be with so we can listen in, or at least a schedule on the website... something so we can at least make educated decisions when the games have similar start times. The lack of audio archiving is a definite huge negative in an otherwise very positive trend that was going on with MiLB given the recent advancements in multimedia, content, and stats.
  11. Wouldn't that depend on how far he gets with each incremental gain? I know I bag on the defensive development within the organization but I'm not sure how realistic it is to expect Gamel's path to be similar to Weeks. Mat made good progress last year, if he can reign himself in and find some consistency he might yet turn the corner this season or next off season if he works hard enough. He started to make noticable progress in AA, the other guys we've discussed didn't make much progress at all, at least none that we could point to. I agree though it's tough when you know you have 3.5+ win player at any other corner spot but right now he's probably 2ish after the negative defensive adjustment at 3B. Not to overstate it, but I do feel that Mat's defensive issues aren't entirely his own fault even though he's ultimately responsible for what happens in the field. If the organization is determined to ride out players at certain positions they'd be better served commiting extra help to that player from the start. If they aren't going to do that then they are just delaying the inevitable to an easier position where they are out of time in the minors and have to play their way into it at the MLB level like Hall and Braun. Otherwise move the kids as soon as possible to a position that better suits them and let them play their way into it naturally if the coaching time isn't available.
  12. Nope, but I'm behind a firewall at work which suddenly just got much tighter, the board isn't loading the graphics anymore, I'm unable to respond to Yuku messages, and I'm unable to stream any radio stations as of 30 minutes ago. Sometimes I really dislike the dudes at corporate. edit. At least gameday still works.
  13. I was thinking about this thread as I was cleaning out my car this morning. Is the lack of respect for Gamel's hitting prowess Projection/MLE related? Especially when dealing with minor league players it takes projection systems some time to catch up, at least in my opinion they always seem to be a year or 2 behind. Since Mat had his 30+ game hitting streak he's only gotten better at the plate, he's trending as well as we could possibly hope for, but since I've switched up from visiting BP daily to making BA a daily stop, I don't follow projections all that closely anymore and I wonder what they have to say about Gamel? Escobar's projections and MLEs have been plastered all over the board, but I haven't seen anything on Gamel or Salome.
  14. Green, Bramhall, Rogers, Scarpetta, and Nieves... if nothing else it should be a fun day to follow pitching lines.
  15. I've actually gone to using google maps with my blackberry pearl... my location usually isn't exact, but I know what street I'm on and can see where I need to get to. It's come in handy the last couple of months as my territory expanded to areas of the state I'm not familiar with. edit. and like sgtcluels stated, work pays for the BB so it's a free GPS solution for me.
  16. Fair enough, I'm probably overly concerned about his mechanics, is he a good athlete? It's always tough to tell from a pitching video... Does he play multiple sports? That's generally the way the Brewers have been leaning with HS pitchers and none of the articles out there discuss anything other than his pitching.
  17. Yep that occurred to me after watching Swindle take that liner as well but he shouldn't really be credited with an assist.
  18. I wasn't necessarily writing him off, but I'd rather get dual threat pitching prospects with good frames and athleticism first, I really liked the Ordorizzi, Lintz, and Lasker picks last season, gimme guys that run it up there in the 90s and swing the stick.. Yo, Parra low round (Draft and Follow), Inman, Rogers(I know but I liked the pick anyway).? The Brewers have done a good job drafting those types of players, we just have to keep them healthy and progressing. I'm not sure the Kazmir comparison is a good one, he's more over the top and his follow through was more on a vertical plane.? I recall the injury concerns about him but wouldn't you say his delivery is much closer to conventional?? Now if Schuster has the potential to add some velocity I might change my tune as he doesn't have any eye popping numbers at the plate so if it were me I'd look grab him later on in the draft than the sandwich round.? Delivery wise he sort of reminds me of a LH Inman the way he slings the ball up there except he doesn't lock out his elbow on the backside after it breaks the glove like Inman does. Kazmir in HS Inman Pitching Mechanics
  19. Gamel with another HR... geez. Now if Salome and Lucroy will get going, Cain gets it going quickly, and Brewer will keep inching his average back up and starting hit with some authority I'll feel pretty good about what's going on down on the farm. We'd just need Green back and all of the position players I really want to follow will be back in action. Wheeler is having an incredible start of the season... great name, great start, what's not to like? The only thing I'm bummed about at all is the injuries to Periard and Seidel.
  20. Part of the reason why great players don't make great coaches is that they never really had to struggle... they had great talent and work ethic so don't really understand what average players go through. I coach with a guy like this, who was a tremendous athlete and fierce competitor but when he tells a kid to do something and they don't execute it drives him insane because it was so easy for him. He doesn't know how to teach the game because it came so naturally to him. This is why I cringe when people want Molitor or Yount to come back and coach, it rarely works out that great players are also good coaches.
  21. This game has a car wreck sort of feel to it... like when my brother was into NASCAR and I'd watch the races with him just to the see the pile ups.
  22. I rule! edit. Butler has a nice ERA, but those secondary numbers are troubling... more walks than strike outs is never a good thing.
  23. Maybe in the 2nd or 3rd, no way I'm using a sandwich on someone who may be as unorthodox as the blog makes him sound.
