  1. Holliman's time with the organization looks to be pretty limited, the A+ rotation is going to pretty crowed when Braddock comes off the DL and there are some young arms at A ball that may get a mid season bump.
  2. That may be true as I don't get anywhere near the same local radio coverage as the Milwaukee fans do, but the organization promoted him straight out of AA then gave him a second look the following year out of AAA and he actually pitched worse. The clubhouse got on Gamel this spring training as well but I haven't seen anyone draw the conclusion that the coaches hate him. I was as excited about Little Ben and Evenland as much as anyone but I don't think either got a raw deal from the organization. despite what BH's crazy father might have to say about it. Is his farewell post immortalized in Woah Solvvvd? Melvin had to give some value to get some value it's unfortunate how badly that particular deal worked out for the crew not even 2 years after the fact. He thought he was getting back 3 MLB players for Davis and 2 prospects, definitely a stinker. edit. I guess I'm ridiculous then because I didn't care at all about the playoff appearance and would have rather picked up a long term solution for the package of prospects that CLE got for CC
  3. You've posted this multiple times, I don't remember that ever being in print, nor I remember his family members posting about it in either forum. I recall something about him continually showing up overweight and that it was generating concern for the organization but I don't recall anything about the coaching staff "hating him". As good as he was in the minors, he didn't pitch very well for the big league club. The Chart displays perfectly in preview not when I post it, stats are here. AZ moved him as well, he's on his 3rd organization, did they hate him as well? edit. trying to get the stats to show properly
  4. Geez I've looked at it 5 or 6 times and missed him every time, I'm as bad as the Nashville 5th.
  5. I was just coming back to post about that 12 run frame against Nashville, my goodness. Gamel with another extra base hit as well. Edit. Lawrie getting a day off stinks and Frederickson with another organizational patented BB followed immediately by a HR, it's some sort of epidemic I swear.
  6. I wasn't looking to debate Dykstra's merits with you again my friend, just commenting on his placement on the various lists which all seem to be loosely based off of BA's list, and BA doesn't think much of the system. I had forgotten about Salome's AZ appearance, I was thinking Fielder, Salome, and Gindl... I didn't mention Prince by name because I didn't want people to think that I was trying to compare Cutter's expectations to Prince when I wasn't. I might be mistaken but I don't recall Hardy debuting on the list in the top 10 and I'm sure Hart didn't, Hart never got much love from BA.
  7. If those were my 2 choices I'd take hughes, I like his secondary numbers and stuff better than Kennedy.
  8. Chicken wings and ranch dressing.
  9. I don't get all the Dykstra love to be quite honest. Yes he's athletic, but he didn't set the world on fire in Helena like we seen some other HS kids do such as Gindl. I also realize his dad had a successful career, but I don't put much stock in what the father did steroids aside... Bonds was a much better player than his father and Rose wasn't even close to the player his father was. Cutter's bat just isn't projectable like Lawrie's is, and there's no way he's a better prospect right now than Cain. What's he done to be rated higher than the other players on the list? With Lawrie I understand the high placement because his bat appears to be so special and he's already backing up his placement.
  10. I'm still not sure I like the Fryer move, AAA SP Depth is sort of meh type move to me. Wright might surprise me and become a contributor, but why not target someone who has higher upside like a Niemann? At least he has a dominant pitch and might be a useful bullpen type if he continues to struggle as a starter. Fryer continues to hit well though, good for him. Edit. My comments above were before I looked at the AAA box and saw Wright had given up 4 runs tonight, I forgot he was pitching, no intended connection there other than I was musing on Fryer after seeing him name in the A+ game log. I'm not sure what to make of Watten yet, he wasn't overly impressive last season in Helena but he has some nice pitches. I view him similarly to Adams, who finished strong last season at R+. All of the college arms at WI are intriguing to me for different reasons now that I think about it. I was hoping Rottino would tear up AA, just because he's a likable guy and I was hoping he'd audition well for another team. That lineup has depressing thus far, Perez and Caufield have been the only consistent hitters early. Gamel and Escobar with Nashville's only hits thus far.
  11. Scarpetta was drafted in '07, but otherwise a good article.
  12. I always liked Nelson, but I wasn't sorry to see him go... with the benefit of hindsight that deal still is decent in my opinion, even though I never wanted freaking Mench at all. I always felt Hart should have gotten the playing time from the get go. I'm happy he's doing well, if he can limit his free swinging ways he'll stick. That's been the knock on him forever, his tools were always impressive though.
  13. that was number 2, he hit an absolute rocket on Sunday night.
  14. Perez with 2 more hits... this is what we were expecting when he was signed...
  15. Lawrie has 5 hits on the season and 4 of them are for extra bases how sweet is that for his first 2 series of pro ball? Gamel is more impressive with 11 hits and 6 for extra bases, 4 2B and 2 HR, he's SLG .955 right now.. There are a bunch of players with SLG north of .500 thus far: Infielders Gamel Perez Lawrie Kjeldgaard Outfielders Gindl Miller Schafer Katin Gillespie (DH right now)
  16. There's not way I can legitimately make a list like this because I really want everyone to succeed so I guess I'll drop a sentimental favorite or 2 and go off of need. 1. Jeffress 2. Rogers 3. Braddock 4. Salome 5. Trejo
  17. Well he may not hit 50, but he's certainly capable of 30 over a full MLB season, he hit 20 last year between AA and AAA.
  18. Poor Dennis... off again. I'm with Battlekow, I kind of like Wheeler as well. Excellent work as always gentlemen, I'm glad I'm not only one that had silly thoughts about Komatsu, I've supported a Komatsu location for years.
  19. Mercedes with 2 scoreless... I'll leave it at that. Brewer has started the year slowly again, hopefully it turns around soon for him. Nieves with a tough 7th, but still a pretty ERA.
  20. They have a signed Suppan jersey in the women's section of the store for $1200, before the game Sunday night every person who was in there and looked at the price tag actually laughed out loud and when I got to the check out line it was being discussed by 2 or 3 different groups of people. (i couldn't tell if some were together or not)
  21. I agree with your premise twobrewers, not really into your players though, especially if we're dropping for them. I can see why people like Hughes, but he's really tailed off after getting hurt during his rookie campaign, this year should be defining for him. I'm not sure what we'd be getting in him anymore. Buchholz is intriguing but he gave up a ton of HRs last year, got hit hard, and walked too many guys at the MLB level. He reminds me a little of bit of Parra in that he'll nibble too much. Bailey.. no way under any circumstances would I want him as anything other than a throw in. He's another guy that gives up way too many HRs (5 in 8IP so far this season), and a 2 to 1 K:BB ratio in the minors stinks for someone with his raw ability. It looks to me like 2006 and his 150Ks was an outlier in his career. There's a reason these guys are blocked, they haven't performed very well recently. As good as Buchholz was in 2007, he didn't pitch near that level last season. Hughes is tough to get a read on... he went from super prospect to AAA depth in 2 seasons for NYY, and Bailey hasn't put up good number in the minors or majors since the Reds pushed him up to MLB in 2007, he was horrible last season.
  22. Turbow... *sigh* there might not be a player I've felt worse for... maybe evah. Gulin really got knocked around in the 9th in Nashville, that's not something we're used to seeing. Apparently Jeffress hates the first inning... but otherwise he settled in nicely. Caufield with a very nice night at the plate, Perez is hitting much better in the early going as well. Lucroy hitless tonight as of this post. Lame rain in BC... I wanted to follow a Rivas start. Bowman with a decent outing for WI, gives up a walk and then a HR to the next batter (what's going on with that this season?).. Lawrie with another extra base hit... Trejo, Marseco, and Dykstra who bumped his average up a tad tonight (yes X I know he's hurt) are not hitting well to start the season. Dykstra did gun a runner at home to get a DP and keep the game within a run.
  23. What's the downside of returning Hall to a super sub role and being the RH part of a platoon? He's not in the long term plans as a starter. If he hits like he did in AA what legitimate reason is there to hold him back? I agree that defense is a major concern, but his bat is *that* good, it's not like he's been rushed, he's gone 1 level at a time. There's also the long term financial side to consider, to a sign a team friendly deal that buys out some FA years he's got to want to stay here, Milwaukee isn't a position to give players whatever they want to stay here, the player has to be willing to give up some money for the security of a long term deal. What if his defense doesn't improve? Does he rot in AAA another year learning a new position or would he learn it on the fly? I realize it's early, but my impression thus far is that Weeks has made significant strides around the bag, and I've actually been very pleased with what he's done. Going from Money to Randolf could be just what the doctor ordered for Mat as well, the big league coaches may have more time on their hands to isolate and work on issues with Matt because there's more bodies at the MLB. To me it's not so much an issue of playing time to work out the kinks, it's having enough to time with the coaches to isolate and correct issues. I have no idea how much of that sort of thing goes on during the season with the players at each level of the minor league system, but I would guess it's not as much as we'd hope given the relative lack of progress that our players have made defensively as they move up. Wtih 25ish young men and 3 coaches plus having to get BP in, I'm just not sure how much time there is for individual instruction. Old saying but practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect... the issue to me is where Mat can get best quality work in.
  24. One of the first things that initially drew me to the site was the interviews with the prospects. I know BCB has sort of taken on that as regular feature with Battlekow being an interview machine so I'm not sure how it would fly to bring that sort of thing back. However regular feature articles might make the home page as relevant as the forums again, I know personally that I've gotten to the point where I jump directly to the forums instead of taking the extra time to click the forum link on the homepage. It would matter if it was a feature based on sabermetrics, scouting, baseball humor, etc... there are so many people on this site, all with varied interests, and some are extremely talented writers and communicators that might be willing to make weekly or bi weekly contributions... If there was enough interest it might even be possible to get new content for the homepage on a daily basis. With the advent of MiLB.com minor league stats aren't necessary any longer, a simple link to baseballreference, baseballcube, milb, whatever site you'd want the hits to go to would suffice. What might be nice is if the scouting reports from various sources that get posted in the draft threads would eventually be included in the player profile section. That way it would sort of a one stop view of the prospects... Stats, what the scouts had to say, what pitches they throw, etc... now that I'm thinking about it, if the "adopt a prospect" idea is gaining steam again, instead of a thread on minor league forum for each prospect (which would add clutter), maybe it could be done through the site profile. There would be a link to media coverage of that that prospect, and you could do the same for the teams, adding the team coverage for each season. I'm not sure the type of storage that would be necessary to facilitate it or if it's even possible, but some consolidation would provide a one stop shop for information regarding the prospects and players. For example, I don't expect everyone on the site to share my enthusiasm for the minor league system, therefore they aren't going to have an educated opinion on a prospect beyond what national publications and some more prominent posters on the site have to say about the prospect. However if they could go and read the hometown articles, or features like the article about Escobar or Cain (just 2 examples of extremely interesting pieces from last season) before they were drafted by the Brewers it might help add some perspective regarding the player's career path. If people aren't reading the link reports, listening to the pregame audios (boohiss Milb.com), they are simply missing out on a vast amount of information on the players and aren't as educated as they otherwise could be. This could be a way for them to catch up, for lack of a better phrase.
