  1. Green is whom I've figured all along, so I agree with Mass. I would have liked to see him play for the Brewers, at 2B or 3B, I think he will be ready by opening day 2010, he's just stuck behind Gamel in the Brewer organization so he only moves up when Mat does.
  2. That would eliminate my primary concern with aquiring Sabathia. I still would have rather aquired a long term solution for LaPorta/Fielder, but if indeed the Brewers wouldn't have to give up another prospect if they miss the playoffs that would have mitigated the risk significantly from the get go. My worst fear was aquiring Sabathia, missing the playoffs, and losing 2 top 10 prospects to do so.
  3. I don't know how Yost would keep his job.
  4. To be fair he did miss all of August.
  5. The little community chest thing doesn't work for this? Where we can donate directly to the board account? Or was that gone with ezboard? Or am I confusing something else? I'm ashamed to admit I dont' have a paypal account but I'll figure it out after the Packer game.
  6. G n R - Appetite for Destruction Normally I pick my favorite music by genre and decade so this was tough, laugh if you want but Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet was a close second for my favorite all time album. So many great albums were listed thus far, I just grew up a huge fan of hair bands.. fast guitar and heavy drums are my thing and have always got me going. It is just me or has music become very pop in that there don't seem to be great albums by new bands anymore rather just great singles? I would have thought Pink Floyd would get an early mention, but that's possibly the influence of my college friends skewing their importance in my mind.
  7. Who would have guessed in April that the Power would be the only affliliate in the postseason, and playing for championship. Congrats to all the players, coaches, and the organization. This team is proof that it's truly not how you start but how you finish.
  8. Agent39 represents Brantley and Green, but does not represent Lucroy.
  9. I guess I'm impatient but Cleveland is really ticking me off with this PTBNL...
  10. There are tons on the market, I haven't looked at any this year I but bought a mini DV Panasonic last year because our game Camera uses DV, but it's hard to go wrong as long you pick up anything digital. If you have an HD tv, spring for the extra coin, you won't be sorry. Consumer reports likes the following models the best. Mini DV Panasonic PV-GS320 Canon ZR900 Canon ZR950 DVD Canon DC330 Panasonic VDR-D50 Samsung SC-DX103 Hard Disk/Flash Panasonic SDR-H40 Sony DCR-SR85 DVD/Flash Sony DCR-DVD910 Sony DCR-DVD610 Hard Disk JVC GZ-MG730 JVC GZ-MG155 edit. I should add that I suggest Digital because it's easy to hook into the computer and capture the video which would allow you to convert to any other format for posting on the web, making DVDs of family events, whatever. The most simple idea for you to send video to the Grandparents would be a DVD camcorder, but you'd probably want to make a copy of the DVD before sending them off anyway wouldn't you? Whatever you decide, I'd also invest in a DVD burner for the home pc, they are very cheap now, you can pick up top notch burners for less than $50 from places like newegg.com.
  11. I guess that depends on what one would consider dramatic because Chris Cody and Bobby Bramhall were pretty outstanding all year. Some recent draftees also were dominant (Luetge, Wooten) but playing half a season I wouldn't have considered them, the same goes for Scapetta who I consider part of this year's draft class. Here's a link to the previous thread discussing this topic.
  12. Who's turn is it to comment on the players?
  13. No arguement with the bats, though a certain catcher was probably deserving as well. The pitcher actually surprises me, he's been very up and down. I would have thought that either of the 2 pitchers I pegged in A ball would have won it, but I'm not surprised by any of the 3 picks.
  14. The whole "meat" thing may be moot now... I've heard a similar rumor from 2 different sources now that Prince has quietly been eating meat again since the early part of the summer. I have no idea how true it is, obviously I run in the football side of the sports community up here, but there are some people up here that are pretty well connected to the entire WI scene. I'd actually be somewhat disapointed in him if it were true, not because I'm a vegetarian (far from it actually), but because he made such an issue of out of it, and in the end wouldn't have stood up for what he believes in. Then again, I'd also wonder how well thought out his decision was in the first place. As far as his power goes, I understand where Ennder was coming from with the "walks too much" comment, but the truth is that Prince has given away far too many ABs this year, especially after Braun hits a HR in front of him. To me, Prince hasn't looked good at the plate all year, more often than not he's swinging off his back foot trying to crush the ball which leads to weak grounders and pop ups. I liked his approach much better last year, he didn't take as many huge cuts at the ball and had better results. When he gets his pitch, he needs to hit the hell out of it for sure, but he's not getting 3 meatballs in every AB like his swing would suggest.
  15. Katuluu.... what a perfect reference, and one of my all time favorite movies.
  16. I would google "core training", there are tons of core excises to firm up the mid section, hips/thighs/butt then it's cardio my friend. You either need a machine of some sort, like an eliptical machine or treadmill, or just run. Core excercises, a good diet (no soda, fast food, etc), and 20-30 minutes of cardio should do the trick. If you jog, I'd recommend spending money on a good pair of running shoes and decent socks to avoid as many issues as possible, including shin splints. If you can, run on a good surface like a modern track that most high schools and colleges have, the extra cushion will save your legs some abuse. Your daily workout time should end up being around 40 minutes tops. As a frame of reference my lifting routine takes me about 1:10 and then I play basketball, but on days when I lift by myself I do 25 minutes of cardio when I'm done lifting on the eliptical or stair master (depends on the crowd at the Y that morning)because I honestly hate running. I can play BBall all day long, I love to compete, but when I'm just "running" I drive myself crazy for whatever reason.
  17. A case can be made that NO was the most poorly designed city in North America, and maybe the world. Even though Venice is still sinking at least the people of Venice had sense enough to build on stilts. I'm not sure how NO made it as long as it did, most of the other poorly designed gulf cities were wiped out over time. I'm a History Channel nerd and I've seen the documentaries on most of the world's greatest natural disasters more times than I care to mention. There is no stopping nature, we're all at her mercy, no matter what part of the world we live in, everyone should respect the power of nature. It doesn't matter if it's flood, fire, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, tsunami, volcano... most people live in denial, the "it won't happen to me" attitude. Tsunami's are a great example, just in the US Hawaii and Alaska have been repeatedly hit by Tsunami's, in fact the height of the wave that hit the Alaskan coast in 1958 was over 1700 feet. However because both states are sparsely populated, the death tolls were relatively low, and the locations remote most people in this country and around the world didn't really have enough respect for their power. It took loss of life on an unprecedented scale to get the global community to rethink how great the threat of a tsunami is. Even in the midwest where we think we're relatively shielded from the worst natural disasters, we think we mostly have to worry about flooding and tornados, we'll get ours eventually, it's only a matter of time. Getting back to my example, Galvenston was already above see level before the hurricane leveled the town. After the Hurricane the entire island was raised up to 17 feet, a sea wall was added, and stil the city never fully recovered. Indianola was actually rebuilt once, but abandoned after being destoryed a second time. Both Galvenston and Indianola were the primary ports in Texas follwing the Civil War, but I doubt many people have heard of either now. I feel the same way about NO, it's value was mostly cultural, the city while it will survive, it will never be the same, and rightly so. There's sadness there to be sure, as in some respects it was the end of an era. Time will march on, but trying to save a city that exists below sea level from natural events seems like a fruitless endeavor to me. Comparing NO to the Netherlands is apples to oranges. The Netherlands is relatively shielded from Atlantic storms at the south end of the North Sea, and their whole modern history and infastructure has evolved around keeping the see at bay. It's very interesting, or at least to me, how they manage to keep the country dry, it started by windmills pumping from one pool, to the next, to the next, and finally ending up dumping the water in a lake or river. I thought the windmills were neat as a kid but never understood the significance. The Netherlands gets bad storms to be sure, but the surges and sustained winds really don't compare with Category 3 and 4 Hurricanes, with notable exception of 1953 (a perfect storm at high tide raised sea level 5.6 meters over the mean). Even so the country has repeatedly flooded and cities have been destroyed, most recently in 1953 as I noted earlier. As a side note there was a fascinating story about a mayor or governor that ordered a freighter to beach itself against a hole in the dike.. the beaching actually worked saving coutnless lives, but a quick google search for a link came up emtpy, I'm unable to remember the names involved and it's late. At any rate, for the country to exist they've had to make flood control their #1 priority. The storm surge in 1953 at high tide was equivilent of a Category 5 hurricane, when Katrina made landfall on the continental US it was only a Category 3... there is no such need for the US to continually rebuild/reinforce NO, the citie's commercial and strategic value is minimal, and has been since the turn of the century. One could make a good case that the city has been on the decline since the Civil War... While the citie's history and culture is important and should be preserved within reason, what's reasonable is open to debate. I personally think the whole thing has been handled foolishly, and as the saying goes, "those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it". I didn't read the post in question the same way Joe did, I read it as a matter of fact of statement regarding the reality of the aftermath of Katrina, not an indictment of an entire race(s). I'm unsure how the discussion can continue without crossing the line here at BF.net, that topic belongs on the political forum.
  18. Good to see Dennis break out of his slump with 2 hits today. Haydel is going to finish the year right around .300... if he can turn more of those 104 SOs into BBs we might have something with him. He won't hit for much power but if he can get his OBP into the .380 range as he advances he'd be pretty valuable. I haven't hyped Gindl all that much this season with my focus on AA and Helena most of the year, but his 850 OPS is pretty sweet for a kid in his first full season. Braddock ends the season giving up another run in a short stint (today it was a solo shot).. his peripheral numbers aren't bad, his K/9 is outstanding, the Hits are low... for whatever reason he just walked way too many batters and gave up more HRs than I would have liked (7, Bulter led the team with 11). I hope his control issues aren't related to an arm problem... I'll always worry, I'm conditioned to expect the worst case scenario when it comes to our pitching prospects. Brantley had a 4 hit night, good for him. Lucroy got the night off and no Taylor Green again in BC... he missed the rest of the year after getting hit by that pitch, too bad.
  19. This is like Christmas in September... unfortunately I'm going to have to DVR most every game so I can catch the kids making their various appearances.
  20. I just read LaRoche's comment "I'm batting .160, I need all the hits I can get".... I was going to post my little conspiracy theory earlier, but I decided against it. However after reading that quote I think there might be something to this... The more I think about this play the more I wonder if it would have been a hit if say McLouth had hit that ball... my initial impression after the play was the kid is struggling and really needed that hit, and if I was thinking that, I wonder if the official scorer was as well?
  21. I realize the point your making, the pressure has gotten to some guys, however in fairness to Manny I feel compelled to point out that he's already done the ultimate feat of pitching a Perfect Game... sure it was at AAA, but it was still a very rare accomplishment.
  22. He was released.
  23. I like the idea of putting them in the team thread. Too often people miss great information that was in a pregame audio link in the link report thread... For example I know from Coach's comments that he's missed the various things that Money had to say over the course of the year about Salome. To anyone who missed the various audio interviews over the course of the year it had the appearance that we were passing along misinformation about Salome, when in truth we were just repeating what his coaches and other people within the organization have said about him all year. I listen to 90% of the pregame audio... my listening really tapers off this time of year, I have too many other things going on so I spend my time hitting box reports for the most part, unless work is slow. I'm curious if JP is doing more minor league inteviews because he likes this forum and has witnessed the high level of interest many of us in MiLB, or if just coincidence now that the system is churning out quality prospects every year. edit. corrected horrible gramar and added thoughts about JP.
