  1. This thread should be combined with the Playoff rotation thread.
  2. 1 - Gallardo 2 - Sabathia 3 - Bush rinse and repeat.
  3. "sheets hater(s)".. that's just lame. One poster was over the top but most people have been realistic about what he's done. This isn't the Sheets of 2004, he's not dependable anymore, that's the plain truth. It's a different minor injury every time, but he's injured/ineffective none the less. His abscence contributed to all 3 collaspes under Yost. If anything that doesn't prove how valuable Ben is/was to the Brewers, it proves how valuable having quality depth is, as opposed to relying on 1 guy to be the "man". Ben is a very good pitcher, but aquiring Sabathia and being able to observe them side by side should have made the gulf that separates the 2 men very obvious. If we make the playoffs and it was a game 5 or 7, I wouldn't want Sheets on the mound. I'd more comfortable with Sabathia, Gallardo, or Bush. I feel much the same way about Parra, while he's talented and I want him in the rotation, I just don't trust him, and maybe I never will. Winning isn't just about talent, I know it's unpopular in baseball circles to discuss the intangibles, but they matter to me, I believe they matter in the grand scheme, and again Sheets and Parra just don't strike me as fighters. If I'm going to lose, I'm going to go down swinging. That's why I'm more comfortable with Bush, because even though he's not the most the talented guy, he's going to lay it all out there and get after people. Pointing out Sheets' Gold Medal game to me is like pointing to his 2004 stats... things change, I'm taking nothing away from him, he's just not the same pitcher any more.
  4. There is no way Gillespie has more upside than Hart... if you want upside in terms of athleticism Cain is probably it, and with the bat Gamel has greater offensive upside if he doesn't stick at 3B. IIRC Gillespie has a pigeon arm, which means he's a LF/reserve defensively, not a problem with Braun around as he can slide to RF, but again, Gillespie is what he is, while Hart is already in MLB and still has room to grow.
  5. I'm surprised I never thought of the dishwasher before, I've tried the washing machine but that's never worked out so well...
  6. Isn't it ironic how when someone says "no disrepect intended" they go out of their way to intentionally disrespect someone? Agent39 I echo JJ's thoughts, please keep on doing what you do.
  7. usually I'm not one to pile on, but I feel pretty much the same as NDOG, he's really disgusted me the last 4 years getting injured at the worst possible times. I know it's it not his fault, the statistical arguements, and so on... I simply don't care. He's not worth money or the heartache.
  8. Again it doesn't matter what I think, it matters what the players think, and I wasn't speaking specifically to Hart... more Hardy, Braun, and Fielder... If they aren't "comfortable" with their position in the batting and they start slumping, the position in the batter order is part of the problem because they believe that it has an effect. They must overcome their personal bias to be successful, that's it. I have no intention of debating any study that says batting order doesn't matter all things being equal, because I absolutely agree. My point is and will be that if an issue matters to any particular player then it matters, regardless of what anyone has to say about it. That fact has been one of the hardest things for me personally to overcome with my young men... in most cases it's very difficult to change someone's perception and their self image. Batting Hardy in front of the pitcher affects Hardy because he honestly believes he doesn't see good pitches to hit, whether it's true or not, he's believes he's going to fail before he even starts, and he's spoken on numerous occasions about his position in the order to the press. I have no idea what Hart believes as I don't recall him ever discussing it in the past but I would agree that his position in the order doesn't seem to effect him.
  9. I usually just use scrub brush and put laundry detergent in the sink. I scrub till I'm happy then I rinse it and let it air dry for a day.
  10. We can say it shouldn't matter all we want, but the simple truth is that if the Player himself thinks it matters, then it does. Nothing is more important than what goes on in any particular player's head. The truest line from the classic movie Bull Durham... "If you believe you're playing well because you're getting laid, or because you're not getting laid, or because you wear women's underwear, then you ARE! And you should know that!"
  11. Ewizabeff's post made me think of an all time favorite of mine, off topic but I love "That was a crazy game of poker" by O.A.R. 10 days ago I would have said Today I would say "Right Now" by Van Halen edit. I must be dumb because I'm unable to get IE to add more than 2 videos to a single post, so I converted everything back to html links. Sorry for the double post, I lost all of the text in the first post, so I deleted it and added this on back. edit 2 and 3. corrected horrible spelling and grammar
  12. Historically that isn't true... just last year Volquez for Hamilton, Garza for Young. It's seems to me that there are a couple of deals for established pitchers every off season as well. Again, people who have the opinion that quality pitching isn't traded probably aren't looking hard enough. My favorite example is TB, TB already has a fantastic rotation and they have Price and Neimann ready for MLB but in the minors, and Price might be better than Kazmir. Best case I think Neimann is a 2, but he's probably a 3/4 which is alright if he's not the primary aquisition. Off the top of my Texas, LAA, TB, KC, and Detriot all have lots of quality pitching at MLB and in the Minors. I haven't done research since the Sabathia deal, but I doubt many guys have had career ending injuries since I last looked. edit. Basically in my opinion it comes down to motivation. Is the team rebuilding, are they desperate for another bat, do they have excess pitching they have to move? That's just a 2 way deal, bringing in a 3rd team expands the possibilities exponentially.
  13. I really don't understand trading for Halladay at 17.5 mil per but not resigning Sabathia? Why not tack on the extra 3 and make a run at Sabathia for 20-21 over 5 years than aquire Halladay? I'd rather have the younger guy for 5, than the older for 2, when performance is basically a wash. I'm not in favor of singing or aquiring any "name" pitchers because they are too expensive, but if my choices are Halladay or Sabathia, I take Sabathia in every possible scenario.
  14. I'd take Neimann in that deal too... rumor had it they were looking to unload him at the trade deadline... yes I have an infatuation with the Rays' pitching staff, I'm envious of their depth that's for sure.
  15. Lucroy is not represented by Agent39, and it's been establish that the PTBNL is one of his clients... Brantley or Green, and I still believe it's Green.
  16. I already answered the first question in detail twice... you're simply "putting words in my mouth", how do you know my intent better than me? As far as the second, what's not to get? I already said that none of us have any knowledge outside of what's been reported in the media. When you have experience with the setbacks that can occur during rehab it's always going to be in the back of your mind, like the last hurdle in a race... I would think opinions on this issue would vary with how much exposure people have had to the injury and/or rehab. In most cases it really doesn't have anything to do with the training staff, setbacks occur because the athlete is compensating for the knee and creating more stress to the body elsewhere... ankle, hip, etc... it's certainly not intentional on his/her part and is just part of the rehab process, both mental and physical. If this was spring training I'm quite certain no one here would be concerned, however given that we're 4ish months removed from the surgery, there will be a difference of opinion based on time and perspective. If you don't understand why people would be concerned with Yo pitching tomorrow, I really don't know what else to say. All I do know is that expressing concern does not equal attacking the Brewers, which is how you spun it.
  17. No one that's posted in this thread has the accused the Brewers of intenionally risking Yo's knee, in fact I pointed out I"m much more concerned with a secondary injury than I am him reinjuring his knee. Your takes on our comments are extremist and simply arguementative. A full recovery from an ACL surgery in less than 6 months is astounding... I don't care if you don't believe me, go look it up yourself, there's plenty of information out there. I said I was surprised and that I find myself concerned... that's all. If it was in his shoes I'd be exactly the same way, I had to be drug off the field/out of a game... I get it, believe me. I said l'd rather err on the side of caution, that does not imply anything in regards to the Brewers. Others have mentioned the Brewers have obviously pulled out all of the stops as Sabathia is pitching every 4 days on short rest, which is also a reasonable observation and again doesn't infer that Yo is putting himself in harm's way. We don't know much anything except what Yo's said in the pregame yesterday, today, and the gents on Brewer's live have given us, which isn't much. All I know for sure is that if he's 100% this would be the quickest recovery I've ever heard of. That's it, I'm not hinting or inferring at any conspiracy, "wow" is all I can say, and with Sheets status unknown and Parra apparently shut down if Yo can pitch a good 3-5 innings tomorrow what more could we ask for? Well maybe a HR, because that's the only way he could top what he's already done...
  18. While a case can be made about reinjuring in the knee, it's more about injuring other joints/muscles through compensation for a lack of strength/confidence in the injured area. For example trying to gain velocity through over throwing which leads to a shoulder/elbow injury. This is simple rehad, such that anyone who's helped an athlete through, been through personally, or has taken the time to be educated on the injury can attest too. Furthermore, in the medical world just like the legal world you look at past cases/injuries for precedence, in this case what a reasonable time line to return would be. For example of a worst case scenario, Aaron Henry of the Badgers blew out his ACL early last winter and had surgery, but ended up with torn cartiledge in the knee requiring a second surgery, and now might be out again this year. I've listened to literally dozens of presentations, read numerous articles, and personally helped multiple athletes rehab. I'm not a doctor, but I'm hardly uneducated on the recovery process, and I did sleep at a Holiday Inn last night... Instead of being contrary, take the time to actually understand that no one has posted they "know better" about this particular injury, some people would rather err on the side of caution, and I believe that's a reasonable stance to take. It's not playoffs or bust for me personally, I'm more concerned with the longterm health of the franchise, which at this point in time includes the longterm health of Yo and Parra, like many of the other young players.
  19. It's not that we think we know better, it's just that having been around ACL issues I'm completely stunned that he's able to pitch, field, and hit in this short time. It's remarkable, and I consider it out of the ordinary enough that I'm hoping for the best but a part of me is fearing for the worst. Again it's just because of my personal experience dealing with athletes trying to recover from major knee surgery.
  20. I can mostly get behind everything you said, with the exception if that they can deal for a legit young pitcher, they should make the deal and let the rest of the chips fall where they may. I'm much more concerned with the state of the pitching staff than I am with the state position players. I'd rather work from the pitchers down, than the hitters down, if that makes sense.
  21. I don't see a 3-4 inning stint... he's not hitting at all. If he's not hitting, that leads me to believe that his lateral stability (rotation) in the knee isn't that good yet. Again, if he's not moving well laterally I'm not sure why every opposing player wouldn't just try to bunt off of him and make him go right and left to field the ball. I have no doubt that after 4 months his knee is healthy enough to pitch, it's the rest of it that worries me. edit. According to Yo on the pregame tonight he was working on fielding bunts and covering 1B down in AZ everyday. I'm shocked that he's good enough to pitch this quick, and I'm hesitant to see him used based on my experience, but the Brewers sure could use a boost...
  22. I don't care what metric you use, there is no way 2 years of Halladay is worth more win shares than Fielder for 3 and Escobar for 7. Hardy is without a doubt my favorite Brewer, but I'd be willing to give him up if the net result meant that the Brewers were a better team in 2009. I feel the same way about Fielder, if the net result is a +, I'm in. I don't disagree with the premise you're working with(OBP), I'm just not a fan of the players you chose for the reasons I already stated. Rolen was way below average last year, his OPS+ was 89, he's rebounded with a 104 so far this season... however he's not an everyday 3B anymore, he played in 112 games last year and has played 110 so far this season. His OPS hasn't been over 800 since 2006 and all of his power numbers have dropped drastically in the last 2 years... from 30ish HR a year through 2004 down to 8 in '07 and 10 in '08. For comparison sake in his last "good" season in 2006 he hit 22. You are correct that he still has an excellent eye at the plate, but his OBP isn't enough to get excited me about the rest of his game or taking on his contract. I'd rather stick Gamel out there right now than aquire Rolen, I feel that strongly about Rolen's decline. Again I'm not into aquiring "name" players because we're paying more for the name than the player's current relative value.
