  1. I don't have a problem with it at all, sometimes you have to make statement, and I think the message has been sent. I know there's no statistical proof or way to quantify the impact, but I approve of the bean, the brawl, and any resulting suspension. Crisp got exactly what he had coming to him. I remember there was a segment in one of the "When it was a game" series where they were talking about Gibson, and Mayes said he got in the box and part of his normal routine was to dig in his back foot. Well he's digging out his hole, and looks up and Gibson is scowling at him. Mayes fills the hole back in and Gibson knocks him down on the first pitch anyway... "No one digs in against me". It's a shame that pitchers don't have the ability to control the plate anymore, or even the score without a warning or getting tossed.
  2. Rluz nailed it, the team can afford Sheets, but is it money well spent considering Ben's skills will start to decline? The market for pitching is worse than hitting, I would agrue that Suppan's 12.5 mil next year isn't money well spent, but the market is what it is. Is Sheets worth 15 mil a year? Absolutely. Can the Brewers afford to pay any pitcher 15 per while he's on the DL? Absolutely not. Free agency isn't a good market for the Brewers, but free agent pitching especially isn't. If the Brewers don't resign Sheets then Melvin has all winter to move one of the young bats if the team needs to aquire more pitching. Like or not, the Brewers will always have to be value conscience in the current economic state of baseball, they do not have the money to throw around that the big market teams do... I don't like it at all, but that's just the way it is. You make your gambles on pitching and play it safe with hitting which is why I wouldn't spend the money on Prince and trade him for pitching. Playing it safe is signing a bat, they much less likely to suffer a career altering injury, the risky moves are free agent pitching. I think you meant signing Fielder involves more risk long term than Sheets? In general I think hitters are the much safer bet in free agency so I'm a bit confused.
  3. I'm the opposite Louis, I was underwhelmed by Romanski, but I liked all the rest. And another excellent name to add to the organization, Maverick Lasker... that's a name I have to root for. edit. Either my typing is getting worse by the day or my new wireless keyboard is missing a whole lot of keystrokes. Sorry for all the weird sentences, I'll proof read better.
  4. I saw that, then it occurred to me that Salome's name hasn't appeared once... I skimmed all the way back to mid May and I didn't see it. He's getting a pretty raw deal, someone out there doesn't like much for some reason.
  5. I tried to look at Farris' profile in the Player Index earlier tonight and I get the standard 403 forbidden error.
  6. I think the compensation system is broke anyway, though I'm not complaining with 4 extra picks this year.
  7. Huntsville not exactly flashing the leather early... Gamel, Escobar, and Errecart with errors in 2 innings. Turbow's 2 scoreless includes 3BB and 4SO but no hits. Merecdes continues to struggle out of the pen this time, allowing all inherited runners to score in a distasterous bottom of the 3rd for WV, a 6 run frame. BC is having a difficult game on defense on top of Braddock's big inning. 3 unearned runs and 4 errors thus far. Cain and Green continue to carry that offense, the only 2 players on the team batting over .250. Brewer hasn't had a hit since June 1... Huntsville still tied 1-1, 7 hits but only 1 run scattering 7 hits over 5 innings. They had something going with bases loaded in the 4th but came up empty. An ussassited line drive double play and a strike em out throw em out have ended 2 of Huntsville's innings as well.
  8. Braddock seems to be dealing every other outing this year, he's struggling a bit today. Farris has been uninspiring to this point as well, he's nearing 100 ABs and there isn't a "good" stat in his line thus far. He did alright at Helena last year, not as well as I would have hoped for a 4th round pick.
  9. If you watch on mlb.tv don't you get the home team announcers? I would think that's how they how they had Bill and Brian.
  10. The staff last year was veteran and relatively stable all year, nothing like it's been this year. Also, comparing the ERA+ of any pitcher in early June to their full season last year seems like a disservice to the truth. You're comparing a small sample of 2 months against an entire year's worth of work. A more fair comparison would be to go pitcher by pitcher at the end of the season and compare this year to last year, then draw your conclusions on game calling.
  11. I'm debating playing hooky tomorrow... but there's something to be said for coming home and have all the picks made already, there's less anticipation that way.
  12. man crush was the word you were looking for... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  13. I'm not sure what's going on around here, but rluz and I were thinking the same thing at the same time, weirdness ensues..
  14. He's in the bullpen now in AA... Mass linked audio yesterday or the day before with the pitching coach, who discussed Mike.
  15. I work for one of the biggest union companies in the US, and every single bit of those 2 posts simply isn't true anymore. Foreign car companies all have plants in the US to directly complete with American automobile manufactures, like it or not they provide jobs and help bolster local economies the same as US automobile manufucturers. Furthermore, the US doesn't produce nearly enough goods to meet the comsumption of it's own population, this country comsumes more product than it produces, therefore their will always be a reliance on foreign products. The union model has been outdated for nearly 30 years, especially as the world progresses towards a global economy. With the rising cost of health care in this country companies simply cannot afford to get their people hurt anymore, it's too expensive... the high wages union members earned were fine when American businesses were competing against each other, but again in a global economy the union model doesn't exist around the world, foreign companies can produce the same product much cheaper than a American company can. In order to compete globally, companies are forced to lower their manufacturing costs. Once one company in an industry moves production overseas, pretty much every other company in the industry is forced to follow suit. I was at one of the larger farm implements producers in the state last year. While I was working on the computer system we started talking about manufacturing, and it turns out that the company buys the raw ore in the US, ships it to China for processing, then pays to ship the steel back here to the US to assemble the products. They've been able to grow their business by keeping their product very competitive price wise, which led to more jobs here in WI, but that doesn't do anything for jobs in the American Steel industry. Unions hung their hat on the buy American strategy, and it's never really worked, and it never will. Unfortunately the products we make are no longer the highest quality products out there. Also, foreign manufactures started producing goods right here in the US to directly combat that campaign. Slam the Japenese all you want, but the workers over there actually care about the quality of the product they produce. It's fair to say that in this country, the employee is more concerned with themselves.. there might be some pride in the product that is produced, but generally we're much concerned about ourselves. I actually bought a foreign car (European) 4 years ago for the fist time, and I will never by another American automobile. I was floored by the difference in how the car handles, how the car rides, and how well it runs. It was an eye opening experience for me personally. My income is somewhat fixed, I get a small raise every year, but I do my best to live well below my means and invest so I can retire comfortably at 55. I'm going to buy the best product available for the money I'm willing to spend. It doesn't matter if it's a hard drive, a big screen TV, or an automobile. My main concern is quality for the dollar, if a company wants a consumer like to me to buy their product, then they should manufacture a better product. Other's have already pointed out that the US is transitioning towards being more of a service driven economy than a manufacturing economy, this is the single biggest factor leading to the demise of the unions, that point has been beat into the ground. Unions are a relic of a bye gone era... it's that simple.
  16. Other than wearing the wrong helmet (it's covering the ear towards the umpire), I didn't see anything? Or is that it?

  19. It's fairly disheartening when a pitcher many people don't want in the rotation has the only multi hit game thus far. Come on boys, take it to this old man.
