  1. I would be pretty surprised if Braun didn't break Yount's record for HR. Honestly, the Brewers HR record is pretty sad. How many teams have as long of a history as the Brewers with such a low number? (I can't believe anyone would be down on Braun for not walking enough. He is only in his second year with a consistent .900 OPS. Talk about picking at nits)
  2. I think it is pretty obvious the scout works for San Diego.
  3. On Father's Day, the Brewers had a starting pitcher of Seth McClung. A shortstop of Craig Counsell. A second baseman of Hernan Iribarren. A third baseman of Russell Branyon. And a right fielder of Gabe Kapler. Before the season, that would have made you want to vomit. Yesterday, I thought - "We have a pretty good chance of winning today" So, um...yeah - lots of our guys have underperformed this year.
  4. If this was 100% true, they would have been willing to part with some of their young talent to land Santana. The Yankees are much more likely to wait until after this year - and then sign Sheets as a free agent. Unless Yo's knee hampers his delivery - I would say the odds of Hughes being a better pitcher are around 10% only. (Obviously just my opinion. I am very surprised you think that highly of Hughes) On a related note, I think Sheets is very likely to sign with the Texas Rangers next year. He lives in Dallas. They are willing to spend money. They could use starting pitching. And they are in the AL. (Plus Ben never seemed like the bright city lights kinda guy)
  5. Ichiro has a limited no trade clause to block trades to 10 teams. If he hates visiting Cleveland - he wouldn't play for Milwaukee.
  6. I've watched Hughes pitch a few times. I've never been that impressed. I think the two draft picks would be better because I trust Jack Z (a lot). Possibly, I just would imagine a large market team (and a decent one) would sign Sheets. So we would get a lower 1st round pick for him.
  7. Mariners fired their GM today. I wonder if the temporary GM will even be allowed to make a major decision - such as trading Bedard.
  8. Exactly. Sheets is sure to be a type A free agent. I would take a first round pick and a sandwich pick over Hughes. Hughes is starting to look a lot like an over-hyped NY prospect.
  9. Or in Yost's case - 1 year after you had to. (See: Turnbow, Derrick)
  10. So basically the box scores are pretty accurate representations. That is unfortunate.
  11. It's comical to me that Haudricourt and Yost are not at all friendly with each other - since they both have very similar temperments. Haudricourt gets very testy with his readers...a lot.
  12. I wonder if Bill Hall still thinks he should be playing 3B in front of Branyan?
  13. Closers always seems very expensive during the season - as many teams scramble to find that "last piece". They usually trade a little cheaper in the winter. Wagner would be a huge upgrade to the bullpen - but at a very hefty price. (At least a LaPorta or Gamel type)
  14. Nice read on the Scarpetta interview. I've been wondering what he has been up to. I was pretty excited to see the Brewers draft him last year. It is unfortunate that one of his first impressions of the Brewers was having his contract voided and renewed for a less amount - but hopefully he won't hold a grudge.
  15. pogo - I honestly look forward to reading your work every month. Thanks.
  16. That's funny. After looking at the Brewers box score and Bill Hall's two error game, I thought to myself - "Well, that puts him back in a tie with Gamel" And then I looked at Huntsville's box score. Nevermind.
  17. I thought part of the odd dimensions were a result of the roof. Whereas Miller Park has the very expensive roof that folds back to the first base line and third base line, Minute Made has a roof that only moves in one direction as a whole unit. Hence, they needed a more square/rectangular share to make the roof feasible and affordable.
  18. You do know that blue means sarcasm right?
  19. Hating the media doesn't really make you a jerk. I think you are at least looking at two top prospects for Bedard. After all, if/when he leaves via free agency he will net two first round picks.
  20. Anyone have a link for this? I know early this year Corey made several public comments about wanting "security" now that he is a family man with more responsibilities.
  21. I really want to know how his credit report ended up with him working as a pirate as a restaurant. Worst Commercial Ever:
  22. Cameron was worth that much just to move Braun off of 3B.
  23. Rumor has it he is on the trading block. (Since the Mariners are out of it) He is signed through next year (arbitration eligible) and would give a nice 1/2 punch with Sheets this year and Yovanni next year. He has struggled a little this year - but still maintains a 1.30 WHIP and almost 1K per inning. I would imagine a switch to the NL would help as well. Matt LaPorta would probably have to start the discussion.
  24. That is pretty big news. (Plus a nice new picture of Gamel) I like the decision. There isn't that big of a difference between AA and AAA. As long as he is happy working with Money at AA and showing improvement - let him get his work in where he is comfortable. It certainly seems like the Brewers are going out of their way to keep Huntsville together. I wonder if they are already looking at 2010 and thinking it would be good to have those players use to play (and winning) with each other.
