  1. I was starting to think Weeks had no leash. Durham would certainly seem to be an upgrade over Weeks at the present time. But while his .385 OBP sounds really nice - its worth pointing out that the only had a .295 OBP last year. Durham for Ford = Good deal. (It's also worth mentioning that Branyan has really been struggling.)
  2. I don't think 1250 ever broke a story in their lives. (Plus, all we have is a poster claiming to hear this on 1250) !250 is the station that informed me that Bedard and Harden were only rentals as they were are the last year of their contracts. Well done boys. Well done.
  3. I can't remember where I heard (or read), but Chris sounded like he thought he would be a Brewer next year. He acted as though it was a given. I would imagine he will just sign a small contract to try and prove he is healthy.
  4. Braun definitely gets some love. But Milwaukee has been having a bit of a love-fest with Hart recently. (See All-Star voting)
  5. Huston would cost close to every single prospect. He would certainly cost more than Sabathia. (LaPorta, Bryson and potential one of Brantley/Lucroy/Green) I would think that puts the price on Street at something along the lines of Gamel, Salome and Braddock. (Maybe Jeffress in there somewhere)
  6. The Brewers drafting of Brent Brewer was kinda like the Chargers signing Antonio Gates. They didn't really know how he would pan out - but they figured he was athletic enough to make it work. Brewer was a high risk/high reward draft pick. We are pretty close to deciding how that turns out.
  7. I just wanted to add that the reason I had Brantley so low in my listing (9) was mostly based on the rumors that he was the PTBNL. In addition, the fact the he keeps playing 1B is very puzzling. He could slide anywhere between #4 and #9.
  8. Stevo - The problem is that a team has to really really be desperate for batters to trade pitchers who are under their control for several years. On occasion, a player with 2 years remaining will be traded. But it is very rare that a quality young pitcher who you can control for more than 2 years is available. I don't believe Arizona would trade looking for offense. They can get better with maturity. I would think San Francisco and Kansas City both are so far from competing that trading for a young batter doesn't really make sense. (Prince Fielder wouldn't get them to the playoffs anymore than Greinke would) Toronto makes some sense. Since they might be one quality bat away from competing. However, rumor does have it that the Giants are possibly willing to deal Matt Cain. Word is the Giants might part with Cain, who is 5-7 with a 4.06 ERA in 20 starts, if offered an intriguing package of young talent.
  9. How would the Brewers rate their prospects? In the aftermath of the CC Sabathia/La Porta trade, I started to wonder what the Brewers' Power 50 would look like. They certainly seem to have one or two players they consider "untouchable" - and while CC Sabathia is a great pitcher, I don't think the Brewers viewed LaPorta as their top prospect. So prior to trading LaPorta, how do you think the Brewers would have rated their prospects? (Most untouchable first) 1. Alcides Escobar 2. Mat Gamel 3. Jeremy Jeffress 4. Matt LaPorta 5. Angel Salome 6. Taylor Green 7. Jonathan Lucroy 8. Zach Braddock 9. Michael Brantley 10. Lorenzo Cain It's really hard to gauge how the Brewers feel about Brantley or Green - but I certainly think the Brewers viewed Escobar as their top prospect.
  10. I agree with FTJ. If they weren't free agents, I'd be worried. But as it is, we need to use them while we have them.
  11. Halladay might be the best pitcher in baseball right now. Hardy and Nelson isn't even a starting point. But how many of those players are available. If you control a pitcher for a few years - it has to be a team desperate for a bat. You wouldn't trade a pitcher because you are "out of it", since you still have a few years where you might have a competitive team. Marcum might be possible - since Toronto clearly needs offense. But I would doubt the rest of the pitchers ever get near the trade market this offseason.
  12. I can't believe Marcus Camby was traded for a 2nd round pick. He would have been a very good Buck. Its amazing what you can get for nothing if you are willing to take on some salary.
  13. I am suprised by that. I'd give up Jeffress and Fielder in a heartbeat for two years of Halladay.
  14. I am kinda of surprised at the reaction. Lucroy would be high on my list to trade. (And I really like Lucroy) Rottino looks like he can be a decent back-up. Salome is a top-flight prospect. And Lawrie plans on playing Catcher (at this point anyways). Catcher is our deepest position.
  15. I can only assume that this means the entire world is fearful of Mat Gamel.
  16. Seriously, what is going on in West Virginia!?! They were horrible in the first half of the season. They are now 20-5 in their last 25 games. Unreal.
  17. battlekow, you have a way better grasp of what is always going on down there ... But are we sure he is going to be a catcher? With Rottino, Salome, Cap'n Lou, Lucroy and Fryer (sometimes) - we certainly could use Lawrie as a 2B or 3B.
  18. I bet this happens eventually. But Ned will likely wait until Manny has a bad outing or two. I doubt you bench him when he is red hot. (Besides, can you imagine the casual fan trying to figure out why Manny was benched for Suppan & McClung?)
  19. I wonder if Cordero is happy with his extra million dollars a year?
  20. Does Kenny Lofton come with an AARP discount?
  21. I do find it depressing that we don't have a better answer. I think Jeffress is obviously the most talented pitcher - but hard to choose someone with a 4.78 ERA. Too bad Aguilar got promoted - he would have had it locked up!
  22. Yahoo! suggests pre-September callup for Gamel Defensive woes have plagued Gamel throughout his young career, as his 23 errors in 89 games with the Stars this season attest. Assistant GM Gordy Ash told MiLB.com in mid-June that because of his suspect glove the current plan is to "let him stay at Double-A … the Southern League, is a very solid pitching league, and we're probably going to leave him there and let him have an outstanding year there - let him dominate." However, Milwaukee's commitment to winning implies that a pre-September call-up is not only possible, but likely. I doubt that - where would he play?
  23. Bogut hasn't been even close a max contract player. 5 years for 60 million is bearable - but since he was only going to be a restricted free agent next year, what was the rush? That said, I don't see a huge downside in this contract. He might be over-payed a little, but then, so is all of the NBA.
  24. - I believed the Brewers when they said Gagne was just uncomfortable in the 8th inning while in Boston. He would be lights out in Milwaukee as our closer. - I believe the Brewers when they said Gagne would be just fine in the 8th inning since he has experience from Boston. Sometimes being a Brewer fan defies logic.
  25. Nice start by Jake "Eggs" Odorizzi. (That's right - I fully support that as his nickname) Lots of hits for Huntsville, tons of singles.
