  1. I took Olney's comments to mean that they are only offering LaPorta as a centerpiece. (No one else from AA will be included in the trade) It will be LaPorta, and A+ prospects or nothing. I am glad the Brewers are already looking in to other options. I imagine a few other teams must see that offer and think "Dang, I'd take that offer for pitcher X" Hopefully, other teams are enticed by the offer.
  2. Can someone give some insight with how LaPorta, Green, Cain compares with what the Mariners traded for 2 full seasons of Eric Bedard? I would have to think that at this point, LaPorta is pretty close in value to Adam Jones. But I doubt Green is quite on the level of Sherrill. Still this seems like a high price to pay for 3 months of Sabathia instead of 2 years of Bedard. Or am I wrong and these offers aren't even in the same ball park?
  3. Just my thinking... But if LaPorta and Green are traded for CC Sabathia, that could very well set off a chain reaction that makes JJ Hardy a part of the Brewer's long term plans. Without Green to play 2B or 3B, Hardy moves over to 3B and Escobar takes SS. Gamel can then play OF filling in for LaPorta.
  4. Don't forget Lawrie was drafted as a Catcher. (Cap'n Lou as well) That is why I want to trade Salome in any deal for CC Sabathia. The Brewers are actually really loaded at catcher.
  5. That would be awesome. I hear the Timber Rattler's are always a good game & fun time - but since they are not Brewer affiliates (And I only really follow Brewer minor league players), I wouldn't know anyone on the team.
  6. I was wondering about that this morning actually. Do you think the Huntsville kids feel pressure with scouts watching them? I mean, they are already professional baseball players. They already have a parent club - and they send reports to the Brewers all the time. So in a sense, they are always being "scouted" by the Brewers already. Do they want to get traded? It just seems like Cleveland scouts being in attendance shouldn't be that big of a deal.
  7. I don't think anyone is expecting Maddux to be a #1, #2 or even a #3 pitcher. We just have very limited depth. And frankly, you can't feel too happy with McClung and Bush as we push towards the playoffs. Maddux for three months has more value to the Brewers than the entire careers of Gwynn & Crabbe.
  8. It certainly appears that way. And I am not happy about it. It's a tough situation. We want CC now. But Cleveland isn't going to get a better offer than LaPorta & Green. So if we waited, they would certainly take that deal at the deadline. I say deal Gwynn for Maddux now. And if Cleveland comes back to the table later - we can reassess the situation. I am confident Melvin wouldn't do anything too rash - but Mark A. worries me.
  9. That trade would require a Lincecum type player coming back to Milwaukee.
  10. If we trade for CC Sabathia, we need to make the playoffs. Anything else and this trade would be a failure. I thought LaPorta could be a "player to be named later"? Even with CC Sabathia - I think the Cubs have a better roster. We still have plenty of flaws. (LH Bats, relief pitching & defense) I don't think the Brewers are as good as their record indicates. Very true. I guess he just hasn't boosted his value that much to me. Take 50 points of his average, and this is about what I was expecting.
  11. I guess this is my biggest complaint... If we are so willing to trade top prospects, why are we doing it now? We are not division leaders. We aren't even the wildcard right now. We could still very possibly miss the playoffs. (I would say adding CC gives us about a 60% chance of the playoffs) Unloading the entire farm (LaPorta/Gamel/Escobar & Salome) could have gotten us a Bedard or Haren before the season. Heading into the season with Sheets, Yovanni, and Haren would have made us the World Series favorites. And even with YoGa out of the season, we would still be high in the rankings with Sheets and Haren for the entire season. And then we would still have Yovanni and Haren for next season. Why did we wait until we are on the verge of missing the playoffs to make a move?
  12. That is exactly how I feel. The Brewers are acting like "this is the year". Well, instead of mortgaging the farm for a 3 month rental to possibly get to the playoffs, we could just sign Sheets to an extension. Signing Sheets to a long term contract has less risk than trading away LaPorta & Escobar would. I certainly see your point. But I prefer a defensive stud than another big stick/little defense player. The Brewers already have plenty of them. (And more in the system)
  13. As a 21-year old in Huntsville, Escobar is slugging .446. As a 20-year old in Huntsville, JJ slugged .428 Escobar has added a lot of pop in his bat this bat year alone. (HR already - compared to 1 last year) Hardy has already lost quite a bit of range in the field. He has had a fair share of injury problems. (His shoulder must have been bothering him more than he let on early in the season) ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=66&t=30564
  14. IF Burnett doesn't opt out of his contract - Hall is much cheaper that Burnett.
  15. I think that is the correct offer to make. (Unless you throw in Braddock or Cain somewhere) That is miles better than the two compensation picks that Indians receive. (Plus we save the Indians $5 Million dollars by paying CC the rest of the year) Another team could offer a package that included a better "central piece", but ours would have the most overall talent. I am thinking I can live with giving up LaPorta straight up. He doesn't really have a home, as he isn't a natural OF. But that means we need to keep Prince until he hits FA. I would rather have LaPorta at 1B, and trade Prince for starting pitching that is going to stay for a long time. Green is untouchable to me. I know he isn't on the same level as LaPorta/Gamel/Escobar yet, but he plays a very important position for the Brewers. Green can play 2B and potentially replace Weeks. (Name any other prospect that has a legitimate chance to replace Weeks?) Green is also our back-up 3B in case Gamel can't stick at 3B. And the weakest positions on the Brewers right now are 3B and 2B. I am not interested in trading away our prime contender. At least trading away LaPorta is dealing from a position of strength. (OF)
  16. To me, all of this news is worse that the outcome of one Brewer game. Much worse.
  17. Just adding... If we traded two from the LaPorta/Gamel/Escobar/Green/Jeffress/Salome group - I will forever lose faith in Doug and hope he soon gets fired. (Strong supporter of "In Doug We Trust" since 2005)
  18. We are in third place in our division. Why would you sacrifice the future of your franchise for 3 months of a pitcher? I would completely take LaPorta, Escobar, Gamel, Green and Jeffress out of the conversation. I wouldn't trade any one of them straight up for 3 months of C.C. Sabathia. (They all look like legit MLB players who will play very cheaply for 6 years!) I would offer Salome, Gillespie and Nelson. (Cain could also be in the conversation) - Salome has defensive issues - and Lucroy is only a step lower than him. (And the same age) - Gillespie is completely blocked, but looks like a legitimate prospect - Nelson is a quality bench player. When was the last time a rental player received that much talent. This talk of LaPorta and Escobar is insane!
  19. I know Soto and Fukudome are having very good seasons for rookies... But honestly, if you double Manny Parra's numbers and give him a 18 - 4 record - that almost would have to get him rookie of the year. (Highly unlikely, but I am just pointing out that at the half way point, he should at least be in the conversation)
  20. Dunn has hit 3 HR in his last 5 games...and didn't play tonight.
  21. I'd happily move Hall for Burnett. I just want out of Hall's contract - and Burnett is pretty good. And to be fair, he has been pretty healthy this year.
  22. I don't appreciate Cain nearly enough.
  23. I've never actually bought a dog or brat at the game, but this past month my wife noticed something at the game from the vendors roaming the stands. A hot dog cost $4.00 A brat cost $4.25 Why wouldn't you buy a brat?
  24. I've seen them next to each other once - and while 3 inches may be a stretch, Gamel was noticably taller. I've also heard from well connected individuals that Gamel is at least 6'3". So that gives him at least 2".
  25. I actually proposed a similar trade awhile back - except without Charlie V. That is probably way over paying, but I think AK47 and Bogut would play well together. (And much improve the defense)
