  1. The biggest argument for keeping Gross was that he was a pretty ideal candidate as a 4th OF/Pinch Hitter. The only problem is that he was so poor against LHP, if he ever pinch hit in a real pressure situation - the other team would just bring in a LHP. I'd be shocked if trading Gross kept us from making the playoffs.
  2. Brantley has been my favorite to follow so far this year. I am just hoping the "power stroke" hasn't developed yet.
  3. For the record, I wasn't comparing them as pitchers. I was comparing their "prospect" level. (If that makes any sense)
  4. The problem is he needs somewhere to go. I think Taylor Green could very well fit that criteria. But he isn't going to AA, because Gamel is playing 3B. And they aren't going to bump Gamel up a level - because he still needs time at AA working on his defense. (Not to mention that Branyan is at AAA0
  5. Did you catch the audio on the spilling of the beer? A definite F-Bomb made it on television.
  6. Bill Hall's though process at the plate... Pitch 1: I'll just rest the bat on my shoulder to get a good feel for this pitcher. *Strike One* Pitch 2: Bill Hall time. Swing for the fences...and miss. *Strike Two* Every other pitch: God I hope I can just foul it off so I don't strike out again! He has been the most frustrating to watch. But he benefits over Rickie because he has played very good defense. In addition, he is allowed to swing for the fences a little more in the 6 spot.
  7. I would have to think that Butler's value as a prospect is pretty close to Inman. I agree with the "we sold low, but better than nothing" sentiment. With Gwynn getting healthy and Cameron coming back - something had to give. And we got a decent prospect in return. Best of luck to Gross.
  8. Ok, so I watched the game last night and today. Today we had one error. By my count... 1. Gross missed a diving catch that probably should have been made 2. Braun missed a sliding catch that definitely should have been made 3. Weeks let one slide right under his glove on a ball up the middle 4. Weeks booted a chopper, let it roll up his arm and threw wide to first base 5. Weeks blew the game by failing to turn a very basic double play. (Edit: Fielder didn't dig out the bad throw) Last night... 1. Hart dropped a routine fly ball that cost us the game 2. Hart failed to make what would have been a great play on a double high off the wall 3. And I bet I am missing a few from last night. Our defense looks bad.
  9. I doubt there will be too much movement this year. Most guys are pretty well placed. Obviously, there will be some movement - but I wouldn't say it will be from "abusing [h]is league".
  10. Bill Hall has been very good at 3B this year. His throws have been incredibly accurate.
  11. Of our first 8 batter tonight, Corey Hart is batting .271. The next highest is Braun at .237. Of course, I suppose we could put this in the silver lining thread as well.
  12. Turnbow still throws hard. He still has a nasty slider. And he does have a history of some success.
  13. I would imagine at some point, Ned and Doug must have had a conversation that went like this... Doug: So what is up with Turnbow? Ned: Nothing Doug: Well, do you plan on using him this year? Ned: Probably not Doug: Well, you either have you use him or we are going to get rid of him And so Ned probably agreed to use Turnbow a few times to give him a "fair shake".
  14. I still think Turnbow can be an effective reliever. But Yost doesn't really trust him. Turnbow is unhappy. Turnbow gets booed all the time at Miller Park. I am not so much against Turnbow as I am for Stetter.
  15. Hart got a 3B because the OF never touched the ball with his glove. Technicality.
  16. Turnbow will be unemployed by this time next week.
  17. Dear Turnbow - You are pitching for your job. I just thought you should know. Ned
  18. He hasn't been too bad. Just one REALLY bad outing. (1 out/6 ER) Nashville's offense looks much better than it did a week ago. (Adding Irribaren, Gwynn and Dillon)
  19. I am not too thrilled. I think Skiles will be good for about 2 seasons. He is known for his no nonsense attitude and work ethic that will focus on defense. The only problem is none of his teams ever really bought into the concept. He never really got Ben Gordon playing for the team with a focus on defense. As a matter of fact, the best hustler/defender they had was Ben Wallace - who couldn't get along with Skiles. I would have liked Van Gundy. His teams actually transform into defensive teams - as opposed to talking about it.
  20. For the same reason they pursued Alex Rios for Lincecum.
  21. That's really funny - because honestly, the name I remember reading in my dream was "Hawing"! But sorry, I have no idea what the number was. And I wasn't suggesting we cloned the front. Just make it something similar so everyone would know what is was (And it would say Brewerfan.net instead of Brewers.) Kinda like how we have Miller Park at the top of this page...but it isn't "officially" Miller Park
  22. Q: TOM of PALATINE - IF THE ORIOLES OFFERED BRIAN ROBERTS FOR RICKIE WEEKS, WOULD MELVIN CONSIDER IT? I THINK WEEKS IS JUST A TEASE, AND WILL BE AN AVERAGE MAJOR LEAGUER A: Brewers Mailbag - I'd make the trade, merely because Roberts is productive now and Weeks has yet to be consistent. That's assuming you want to win right now. Weeks would have the higher ceiling in the long-term. Tom Haudricourt would do it.
  23. I think Rickie is pretty low in the pecking order of players the Brewers hope to retain "long-term". The Brewers will probably always offer him arbitration. But he will hit FA and walk. When considering his defense...he is a very average 2B. He won't be too hard to replace.
  24. I don't know if it is possible... But I had a dream the other night. I was at Miller Park and I saw a bunch of people wearing those T-Shirt/Jersey combinations. Only, on the front of the jersey - it said "Brewerfan.net" instead of "Brewers" And on the back was a number and your screen-name. I thought it was pretty cool to walk around and see who everyone was.
