  1. I don't think either of them really count as they just resigned with their own team. If you are willing to play by those rules - wouldn't Schilling have them both beaten?
  2. Hall should have quite a bit of value on the trade market as a SS. But I think the Brewers are counting on him to rebound next year. If you remember, Ned talked about him having MVP potential before last season. And Doug doesn't trade low. Plus we are already looking for outfielders. I just can't see us trading Hall.
  3. No - but they could have Alcides Escobar. (That just shows how far down I think Baldelli's value has sunk)
  4. After thinking more about all of this, I am really unimpressed with the players the Astros received. They don't seem to be the most "major league" ready players - and everything I have heard says the Astros are looking to turn their ship around and try to win this year. (Hence their interest in Coco and Linebrink) Not to mention, if Philly loses Lidge next year in free agency, the Philly's will likely get two high draft picks for compensation. I think those picks alone are more valuable than the players that Philadelphia gave up. (Those picks will be high ceiling players - whereas they traded away 3 limited ceiling players) Plus I think Pence was more valuable to Houston in CF - I don't really like moving him to LF.
  5. So does that mean that the Philly are moving Brett Myers back to the starting rotation? If so, and he holds up well, this could be a huge move for them. They really needed starting pitching - and Myers could still be a very big piece of that puzzle. I wish we had been in the Lidge sweepstakes - but I think we would have had to give a lot to get him.
  6. Or any prospects. I think Winn would make our team better. I just think giving up young talent and taking on salary isn't worth the marginal increase he will provide us.
  7. I wouldn't give Gamel straight up for Winn. I wouldn't give Parra straight up for Winn. He is an ok player, but cost a significant amount of money. If were were going to spend that much money, we can just go with Gross and Mench. I think most people on this board overvalue LaPorta and undervalue Gamel. They are both horrible at defense. And both are knocking the cover off of the ball - well, actually LaPorta has really struggled the past few weeks. Gamel probably won't ever play third base for us - but he looks like as much of an OF prospect as LaPorta does. Check our Gamel's stats for the Hawaii Winter League this year. (Link)
  8. Sign me up on the "Keep Rock" team. I think he really improved as the year went on. I really enjoyed him during our playoff chase giving an honest and open view at times instead of always sugar coating the facts. The last month of the season I thought he was fantastic.
  9. Wow. Johnny Estrada is an "A" I am thrilled at the idea of him playing out next year - hopefully maintaining his "A" grade, and us somehow getting two draft picks for him.

  11. That is just depressing. I refuse to believe the Packers are that far ahead of the Brewers in fan support. I think all of Wisconsin would go crazy if the Brewers made the World Series. The bandwagon would fall apart from so many newcomers hopping on board. I say Brewers would get more attention than the Packers.
  12. For what it is worth, this is already being discussed in the Trade Proposal/Rumors section
  13. I also dislike the DH, but I think it gives a big advantage to AL teams in the World Series. AL teams have budgeted for the DH position and often have their best hitter in that spot. (Ortiz, Hafner etc) When an NL team is forced to use the DH, the usually put their 9th best hitter in the position. For instance, the Brewers would have likely used Braun as DH and started Counsell at 3B. So that adds Counsell's bat to our lineup (Yippie!) While Boston is able to start both Youk and Ortiz. On the reverse side, you could argue that AL pitchers must bat when in the NL - and since they never do, it is a disadvantage to the AL teams. The problem is, the difference between Sheets batting and Dice-K batting is negligable. (They are both pitchers, and likely suck at batting) So while we gain no real advantage by having our pitchers bat, they gain a HUGE advantage by having one of their best players in the lineup. Of course, if you are going to argue only for conformity's sake - baseball is also the only sport that uses different dimensions for their playing fields. Can you imagine going to a basketball game where the rim was set to 11 feet? (But in baseball the distance to all of the walls are different) I always thought that odd.
  14. Best parts... The animal that came out from imagination land attacking all of the humans. "It looks like some sort of pig mixed with a bear mixed with a man!" (It took me a bit to realize it was Al Gore's Manbearpig from a previous episode) Jesus being in imagination land was classic. Snarf. Snarf.Overall, one of the best ever. Snarf.
  15. Couldn't agree more. Of course, thus far this season has been disappointing. It seems like they are always trying to "go over the top" or really rip into a celebrity. In my opinion the best shows are just plain old character shows. The Big Gay Al episode was fantastic. The trip into imagination land was great. I personally enjoy the shows the focus on Stan, Kyle and Cartman more than the celebrity based episodes. (Well, with the exception of the taco flavored kissed)
  16. Thanks for clarifiying the Gwynn for Gagne issue. Texas makes way more sense - I didn't think there was ANY chance we were discussing him with Boston. I think that is a good offer for Cordero. I don't think he will take it. But it is fair. As for Jenkins, the only way I would sign him to a multiyear deal would be if it was in the neighborhood of 3yrs 10million. But I would imagine he will be able to find 2 yrs and 10 million from someone else. The numbers in the rumor just make no sense, if we were going to bid that high we would just pick up his options.
  17. This was from the latest Mailbag on Brewers.com. When did the Gwynn for Gagne thing almost happen? Did I miss that one? (not sure where to put this - so I figured I would throw it in with random rumors)
  18. Well Mike is fired up! I am not a big Ned supporter - but actually agree with this statement. IF, and that is a big IF, Nick has some issues with Ned's management that would be plenty of reason for letting him go. Whether Ned is the right manager for the job or not doesn't matter - at the very least everyone does need to be on the same wavelength. If you have one coach undermining you, you could lose the whole team. Maybe Nick was trying to backdoor Ned with the players to set himself up as a potential replacement?
  19. I disagree. He is a centerfielder on our team with the potential to put up good number. He can be a shortstop on another team with the potential to put up great numbers. I would like to keep Hall. But he is our most valueable trading piece.
  20. I think you are quoting me - but I am agreeing with you. I was merely pointing out that the lowest price tickets went up 13%. So that has to mean that some of the higher end seats ($30+) went up less than 9%. And I agree that the Brewers are a great value at $9 a ticket for the cheapest season tickets.
  21. Last year the cheapest season tickets were $8.00 a ticket. So while the average may have moved up 9% - they raised the rates on the cheapest seats 13%. That is kind of surprising, usually these ticket rate increases affect the higher end seats. Overall, I am willing to do my part to help build a winning ball club. And the value is still fantastic compared to many other alternatives.
  22. Villy was lights out as a relief pitcher early in the season. If we have too many SP - he might very well be relegated back to the pen. I think he would make a very good closer. Bush was a closer in college. I don't think either is ideal - but I think either could do the job as well as Linebrink. And why would we pay extra money to keep Linebrink around (instead of taking the picks) when we have players who can do just as well. I am just saying don't rule them out. I think either would be better than Turnbow/Aquino/McClung.
  23. Completely agree. Capuano is VERY likely to be in the rotation. He is a great #5 pitcher - he just had some unbelievable luck this year. I think He ends up competing with Suppan for the #3 spot again next year. If no one else is brough in - either Bush or Villy becomes the closer. Vargas & Gwynn gets traded for a quality relief pitcher. Dillon works on his OF defense and platoons with Gross next year. (And covers a few infield spots) Zach Jackson also gets traded. Nix - not Gwynn stays as a backup outfielder. (He can play good defense and center like Gwynn, only with some pop in his bat) Parra gets the long set up man in the role or AAA. He would be more useful as a starter since I doubt his arm can pitch on consectutive days. But long man will still limit his innings. He could move into the lineup at the end of the year - ala Villy
  24. I'm sorry, but that seems pretty ridiculous. Individual accomplishments are what makes up a team. Make a list of how many players progressed and how many regressed - there is plenty to be excited about heading into 2008. Saying we accomplished nothing because we didn't win the World Series is awefully harsh. Did you boo and scorn the team for failing to win the World Series in 1982? (Because the rest of us have been celebrating that for 25 years) Honestly, if you can't find anything to be exciting about heading into 2008 - well, I am just at a loss of words for how quickly everyone is to turn on the Brewers.
  25. I don't think getting relievers for Ben will result in anything close to his value. (Of course, his value is highly debatable as well.) But I don't think you can trade a potential ace, but pullben arms. I think the more likely scenario is that Vargas ends up getting traded for two decent relief pitchers. (Perhaps on a Matt Wise level - you know, before he sucked)
