  1. I also concur Patrick. I don't think the speed of the game will be a challenge, I can just see the frustration once 5 strokes are made and the ball still isn't on the green. That's where you just sit there and have 3 equally horrible options. 1) Pretend it's all good, bite your lip and offer encouragement, though anybody could question the sincerity. She watches plenty of golf, has rode with me enough to know the relation to par and how many strokes it should take you to reach the green considerably. 2) If the group behind you is waiting, you could pick up your ball and go the green, though that probably doesnt foster encouragment. 3) You could continue to let them hack it around and piss off the group behind you. I think I like your option of just buying her some range time, some instruction time without me. Let her foster her skills (she plays softball pretty well) and then take her out to that par 3 in Wauwautosa (name fails me). Then it'll likely be a case where she will "surprise me" with what she has learned and both of us can feel good about it.
  2. Thanks for that long post. It was very helpful. I can't believe Whistling Straits is $330. I played TPC @ Sawgrass (yes, the famous island hole course) for $210.
  3. It rained after 7am, you know what that means. Field will be unplayable. But in the theory of optimism they get their act together, I'm in. Hey matt, nice pitching last night. Let's get a W tonight!
  4. I think we know that the playoffs are ours to lose. If we win more games down the stretch than St. Louis, stay within 3 wins of the Mets & Marlins, we'll have October baseball at Miller Park.
  5. Yeah, the mets head to head does not scare me. It's at home, so if we do fall flat and win only 1 game, it's only a 1 game swing in the standings. It's those games against Washington, the Braves, Florida, Pittsburg, that have me worried. They've already won 6 in a row and are charging. They still have a shot to win 88-90 games, which is what the crew is on pace to win.
  6. Any reason we didn't do a double dip tonight from the earlier rainout against them? Any word on when the makeup is?
  7. Nice analysis Splitter. Hard to really follow that up except to say I think they need to keep their eyes on the prize (Division Championship). If they continue to push and come up short, they should be the second best team in the division. Florida does not scare me. The Mets do a little bit, because they do have talent. I think the WC comes down to the Central2 vs East2.
  8. I realized I had put on some weight in the past two years, but it hit me hard tonight while up to bat in the softball game, I hear "Come on Big Guy, get a hit" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  9. rain just started here in Hales Corners...it's coming down sideways.
  10. I'm going to leave this open for a few more days. Right now, I like Temke's "Marino's Super Bowl Ring". It's witty, it jabs at dolphin fans. These are neccessarily the qualifications, but I love the witty. But again, still looking for a two-word name.
  11. A specialist with a letter detailing how it affects your health can usually win an appeal with the insurance company. If not, Check into a subsidiary dental insurance plan that wont consider this cosmetic. It may be expensive, but you can drop them right after you have the surgery/procedure.
  12. I see nothing but red from Milwaukee County Line to Madison.
  13. I dont see how this one can be avoided.
  14. Per Bob Uecker. Link to follow
  15. Ahh, thanks for the reminder. I can "replace" here rather than fill with the sand mixture. Some "North of Atlanta" rule of thumb I believe.
  16. I wonder if they are really locked in a tight battle? Obviously there is some financial incentive to get the votes and internet traffic to the site, so it wouldn't surprise me if Corey was way out in front and they just continue to say that it's close to get more votes and traffic?
  17. I always go there for jeans now. Nice jeans at like $6-8 bucks a pop. Also, university apparrel tends to be quite cheap, even warm stuff like a hooded sweatshirt.
  18. Alright, this may be quite lengthy with a ton of questions, but I'm looking to generate some good discussion with regards to golfing in Wisconsin and Milwaukee Metro to be more specific. I have not picked up clubs since leaving Florida last fall. A 7 month winter and a busy start to the baseball season probably had something to do with that. Here are my questions, feel free to answer them all or a few. 9 holes? In speaking to people about golf here in Wisconsin, I always hear them say, "On Average, I shoot a 40, 45, 48, 37". In that, they always give me their 9-hole score, rather than 18. I've never went golfing and just played 9 holes, except in the case of rain where a round was cut short. I always go to the course to play a full round. Is that something that happens often here? I like to play with other people, but want to get with the "times" if most just play a leisure 9 holes. You'd think people would want to play more golf considering they only get to play 6 mos a year. Are more people only playing half a round these days? And it's not like it's a time issue, because the same thing happens on the weekends. Cart it or Hike it? In Florida, due to a lot of older people on the course, it's almost mandatory that you take a cart. However, In driving around the area, I see a majority of people walking the course. I dont have a problem walking a course, in fact, if it's not a blistering hot day, I would prefer to walk. Is it generally unacceptable to ask for a cart here in the area? Are most of the courses charging substantially higher rates to use a cart, that nobody is using them? Again, I'd like to go with the majority here, once I arrive at a course. I dont want to get a cart and be up some group's hind end the whole round, nor holding up a group behind me by walking. How do the courses play? I've played golf for about 9 years, about 2 days a week on average, but have never played outside of Florida. Are there any significant differences in the physical nature of the courses with regard to terrain? It's obvious that elevation plays a part on most holes, as Florida is generally flat all 18 holes. How do you compensate for the elevation? Do the greens play faster or slower? What is the composition of most greens? Florida is mostly Bermuda greens. Do you recommend any courses? I'd like to play Whistling Straits, just one time, as I'm sure it's $200 plus. But given today's economy, what are some nice courses at a decent price? And what are some nice courses to splurge on once a month? And lastly, the biggie. My wife-to-be, suddenly has this itch to take up golfing. While I think it is great that she wants to indulge in a new hobby, a sport at that, I can already see the road this may travel. Here's the deal. I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to sports. While, I wouldn't belittle her, I could see myself becoming too instructional and then the both of us just getting frustrated. Any tips on dealing with that? Also, any tips on a beginner set of clubs or courses for the beginner lady? Thanks in advance.
  19. With all the rainouts, I just dont know anymore what day is what.
  20. I give him a B. Third best record in the National League w/ injuries to his #2 starting pitcher and a bunch of nobody's in the bullpen. Solid B grade.
  21. Anything West of 60th and South of I-94., that's my motto.
  22. Did I miss the game? Team #1: 7/9, 8pm (Game 9): Brewerfan.Net vs. Ed Thomas
  23. Here's a recap of who is still eligible given the tiebreaker. There are several duplicates and I do have an extra set that I was going to do another contest for.
