  1. I was asking, not telling....as I am not a stathead. So if Braun walks more than he hits more home runs, than the team would actually score MORE runs? I guess I'm just not understanding why OBP is more valuable than SLG. Especially in a guy who is the #3 hitter. Couldn't that be some shallow thinking considering he probably doesn't see a lot of balls out of the strike zone considering he is hitting in front of Prince Fielder, certainly not 4 pitches out of the strike zone in a single AB, most of the time, leading to less walks. I understand that OBP is important, but more important than SLG? Again, I'm asking, not telling.
  2. Statheads, fill me in. Do walks score runs more often then HR's score runs? Am I missing something here? Are we saying we'd rather have Braun draw twenty more walks than 20 more home runs? We'd feel better and have him be more deserving of the All-Star Game if he had accumulated 20 walks and 10 homeruns so far this season? Not having Braun in the all-star game because his OBP is low is like not buying a $25,000 new car because it doesnt come with a $2.99 air freshener.
  3. The entire Kneivel family
  4. Bill Hall is the 4th outfielder. What a joke of a system. Let the coaches and players vote determine the starters. Let the fan vote determine the reserves. Therefore fans still get to see their "favorite stars", yet deserving players dominate the roster.
  5. That I did. The next contest will be Thursday. I'll be sure to start it in the morning and give it some time.
  6. I'll keep that in mind, Wasn't getting any guesses http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Nicely done. From the where are they now files. Danny Almonte is currently pitching very well for Western Oklahoma State. OF/LHP Danny Almonte (Bronx, NY) who hit .497 with 14 homeruns and 19 stolen bases as an Outfielder. Almonte, a Freshman, was 7-1 with 1 save and 48 strikeouts spanning 38.2 innings on the mound in 2008 for the Pioneers. Tomter...PM me with your choice of game and address or preferred method of delivery. Additional trivia game to come some time in the days to come.
  8. near 100 views, yet no guesses. Clue #3 ~~ Attended James Monroe High School
  9. Josh, It's a 1760 mile round-trip. That's considering you are taking other forms of transportation once getting to NYC. I have a Toyota Corolla and get roughly 35mpg. So that is needing 50 gallons of gas. Considering $4.20 a gallon as a conservative estimate (as you go east, the price rises) you are looking at $210.00 in gas for the roundtrip. Split between two people, that is $110.00. I don't recall what you drive, but a cheaper roundtrip ticket can be had, rather than losing two days of your life driving, unless of course that appeals to you. When going to NY, I fly to Westchester County Airport (HPN) with Airtran Airways. It's a $89/each way fare.
  10. Clue #2~~ Former "occupations" include being a Miner and a Pioneer
  11. Clue #1 ~ He has yet to throw some major league heat
  12. Also agreed on Shea Stadium that the stop is two steps from the stadium. I wouldnt stay anywhere in Shea however. Also, if you dont have FL seats at Shea, you wont be able to access the FL concourse. Of the 5 boroughs, stay in Manhatten. Also, consider taking the other trains to the northern "suburbs" such as Sleepy Hollow or Tarrytown, and staying in a Bed & Breakfast. The train commute is only about 40 minutes.
  13. I haven't done one of these yet, but wanted a neat and interesting way to unload on some Brewers tickets that I am fortunate enough to come into given my new position w/ the club. So here it is. Google Won't Save You #92. Winner gets a pair, or 1 if you are dateless or friendless, to one of five games on the next home stand. (July 5-13th). You get your choice between these five games; July 5 vs Pittsburg 6:05 PM July 7 vs Colorado 7:05 PM July 9 vs Colorado 7:05 PM July 11 vs Cincy 7:05 PM July 13 vs Cincy 1:05 PM So without further ado. Good Luck and hopefully this wasnt too easy. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w221/lcbarritt/google92.jpg
  14. But did he have to hit the #3 batter, just because Braun bats 3rd? I dont know that anybody, including Yost, thought of it like that. I reckon it was just the first opportunity with two out and nobody on.
  15. Dear Weather Gods & County Staff Members We aint playing. I've got my uniform at the dry cleaners and wont be able to pick it up. My glove, I tore out all the lacings and laid them out to rub conditioner on them. Upon doing so, the dog took off with one of the sections and I can't find where he hid it. Over night, I discovered I suddenly wanted to bat left handed, but dont have the appropriate batting glove to do so. Hours ago, ASA decided to make my bat illegal, just in the state of Wisconsin, and I dont want to use it and be labeled a cheater. I took the engine out of my car to perform an oil change and can't figure out how to put it back together. While at work today, somebody siphoned my gas tank and while I would normally default and take the bicycle, but the chain fell off and it seems unrepairable. I could print a map and find walking directions, but the printer is out of toner. What ever you do, I'm already resigned to the fact that I wont be able to play, so dont change your normal course now on account of me! Respectfully, lcbj68c Reverse Phsychology Major Brewerfan.net
  16. To be honest, an umpire, he probably gets rung out on the throw down from catcher. Then again on the 2nd throw over. You get caught napping...twice..on principle being that close, you're most likely to get rung.
  17. It's very factual. Your math is just too pigeon-holed. On pace over last year's pace and that is without any Cubs home games.
  18. But wouldn't Crean bring stability to the program? Turmoil was last year?
  19. Anybody know what is up with all the recruits and players leaving Indiana? Another one reported this morning on SportsCenter, making the total number to 12. Is Tom Crean not all he was cracked up to be? Did the former coach, now a Bucks assistant, promise these players so many illegal things that now they wont play for Crean because the program is on the straight and narrow? Is it a race issue? Anybody with some knowledge about college basketball and how recruiting works, feel free to enlighten me.
  20. I'll be there, though I resolve to not set out of my uniform nor bat bag, not get excited about playing and not look at the radar all day, in hopes it will undue to weather jinx.
