  1. I know we've cancelled all of our games already here at Helfaer Field. I was hoping if it was done by noon, there'd be a chance it would begin to dry up a bunch as very hot humid air is coming in.
  2. I'll predict Sheets wins both of his starts and that Suppan wins his start as well. Unfortunately I think Bush will have trouble keeping the ball in the yard, humidor or not, and the winning streak will end at 7 games on Saturday night. I'll predict that McClung/Parra split against Oswalt/Backe, though I'm not sure in what order. 4-2 That said, playing the AL East, even though at home, makes me nervous. I would be thrilled to go 5-4. While I dont want to get off topic, somebody lift my spirits and tell me why I'm being too pesimistic.
  3. I'd be interested in seeing the BP projections for the Rockies last season? Are those still in print or electronic media somwhere?
  4. I know most of us dread anything Chicago, but how excited would you be to see the Summer Olympic Games in basically your backyard? I haven't seen any real contingency plans, but as is usually the case, the events are sometimes spread out and hosted at locations even 40-50 miles from the center? Maybe that would put be areas like Gurnee or otherwise. I dont know how much events cost, but I would think attending the opening ceremonies, however bland, or some of the events would be a once in a lifetime experience. Has anybody else ever attended the games in Atlanta, Salt Lake, or otherwise that can offer some insight? Is there any chance some of the events could make their way across the border into Wisconsin, or is the legal and economic considerations too great to involve another state government?
  5. Here Here! I'll raise a drink to you fine lad. And here's to a 5-5 night at the dish tonight, pending the fields get prepped and dried in time.
  6. I realize this was tongue in cheek, but I think that is evidence that the division is that damn good.
  7. As much as some fans can't understand and those aren't fighting words, Joe Hova...not everything is about stats and is quantifiable. You can't put numbers on leadership. You can't quantify teaching and knowledge. You can't measure friendship and fellowship. I suspect this thread was started because Kendall is hitting .250? I personally dont find anything wrong with the 8 hole hitting .250 when he brings all those other intangibles that obviously impact the statistics of people around him. You can't put a number on it, but the little things that are done that Estrada didn't do has a positive effect on the other 24 men in that dugout. Now, does Rivera's good at-bats warrant some more swings, absolutely. I'm all for him getting some more pinch hit appearances, but that's another topic all in itself. I will have no problem with Jason Kendall getting 155 starts this season behind the dish.
  8. Working on it. Hopefully on a glorified neutral site somewhere between I94 & US-41, the VA hospital and the menomonee valley.
  9. You guys really made it easy on me. With the 9th pick, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, yes Devil Rays in 05' take 3b Ryan Zimmerman out of the University of Virginia and here is why. In 2005, the Rays started an aging, ok 32 year old Alex Gonzalez at third base and got a slugging percentage of .410 out of him. In fact, he had a mediocre glove to accomedate a mediocre bat, committing 14 errors in 90 games at the hot corner. While they had sexy options to most Tampa Bay Ray fans in the likes of pretty boy Jorge Cantu and the likeable Aubrey Huff, the Rays never had a long term option at 3b. But had Ryan Zimmerman fallen all the way to #9, he would have been a very attractive pick. Drafted in June and up on September 1st, spending not a day longer than 60 or so games in the minor leagues, Zimmerman was probably MLB ready on draft day. While the Rays needed pitching and in fact, have always needed pitching, there would have been no way to pass on Zimmerman. Hindsight being what it is, how about a Longoria & Zimmerman left side of the infield? Ryan Zimmerman 3b Univ of Virginia
  10. I love the lineup today. Righty, Righty, Righty, Lefty, Righty, Lefty, Righty, Lefty, Lefty,
  11. I get that and I do agree. The problem is not whether Fantasy baseball is good for the game, there's not doubt that it is. The question is whether MLB should have a monopoly over the players names and stats and not allow small companies to conduct fantasy leagues. Fantasy baseball will always be present for the Yahoo's and ESPN's because MLB wants them in the game, they just dont want the smaller companies conducting the business as they dont get a slice of the pie. Had the court ruled in the favor of MLB, fantasy baseball would still live, just in those few markets that MLB deems they want to sell to and allow to do business with. It wouldn't mean the end of fantasy baseball.

  13. I agree with you blindcheck in some regard, but I also have this comparison for you to consider. Say for example, I own an apartment complex. As a "service" to my tenants, I provide WI-FI internet access "included" in their rent. In all reality, I've raised rent prices $5.00/month to accomedate for my cost in providing the service. It just happens that a smaller house adjacent to my property has the ability to receive the signal and therefore gets my "free" internet as well. (For the sake of argument, let's say that I'm computer illiterrate and made the connection unsecure). I finally discover that this smaller house is using my internet service, but I want them to pay for it. Given your reply above, The smaller house or business could therefore argue that since internet can be made freely available from other sources (library, mall, etc), that I dont have the right to control my signal?

  15. An interesting article in today's MJS business section illustrated that the US Supreme Court refuses to re-hear a lawsuit from the MLB Players Union, which was seeking to stop the Fantasy Baseball industry from using players names and statistics. Apparently, the MLB attempted to make money off of the fantasy industry and only allow certain mega players in the industry to conduct Fantasy games, such as Yahoo and ESPN. It attemped to block the ability of smaller companies to operate using player's names, presumably because they wouldnt be able to get a slice of the pie. I've never seen this discussed here, but I reckon the majority of the general public and baseball fans agree with the US Supreme Court? I'd love to generate some discussion, possibly on both sides if somebody doesn't agree with the US Supreme Court. Specifically over this fact. Fantasy sports site companies argued that fantasy sports sites merely were using names and statistics of players the same way that newspapers and other media outlets do. MLB argued that the fantasy sites were using the names of athletes in the manner of a consumer product. While I am a baseball fantasy player, I do agree with the MLB. While I dont know how to regulate them getting a slice of the pie, the notion that the fantasy sites do not acurately tell the story that they are making a buck off of what these players do is an outright lie. However, Newspapers and media outlets profit as well as I know I specifically have a newspaper subscription to see what the players have done as well. Anybody else got a take on this?

  17. Are we picking in order, or just annoucing or choice?
  18. I agree. But can't it be assumed that the Cubs may have some serious injuries themselves. Or that the Brewers might make a trade to improve the pitching rotation and therefore add a handful of wins to the projections? While the number may be 86% chance to win the division that has to be a status-quo projection. With all the home games we get against the Cubs late in the year, I'd like to think we are still in this race, especially barring some Cub injuries or moves made to the Brewers roster. I'll wait until September to see how many games back we are before I hand away a division title. Going 5-1 against the Cubs in the final two weeks of September nets us 4 games in the standings alone, not to mention the easy schedule we could/should pick on also in September. 6 games back on September 1st, to me, will mean we still have a chance.
