  1. Meanwhile, there is Tampa and Oakland. The Buccaneers and Raiders both have solid fan bases, so why doesn't anyone show up to watch the Rays & A's? Bwahahahaha. That was worth a good laugh. As a Tampa area resident, I can concur that Freidman is a genius. However in no shape or form do the Buccaneers have a solid fan base. I think they have been blacked out for two years straight. Nobody cares unless they are winning. The biggest bunch of bandwagon fans I have ever laid on. I do think this is a result of the amount of transplant folks here and because the franchise is so young. A lot of the kids that were born and raised here are just finally old enough to enjoy and support the Rays. But the notion that all of the fans around here are "fans of other teams" and "our stadium stinks" is sooooo very true that it really helps. I will say this, despite the fact that that Freidman is a genius, I think there has to be a happy medium in building a baseball team. You have to mix solid young pitching with some dynamic offensive presence. You also have to believe they've been extremely lucky with their young pitching panning out. If Melvin/Jack Z would have hit on just half of the pitching prospects that Tampa did, we wouldnt be having this conversation. I dont fault Melvin for bad luck.
  2. I'll preface this by saying I am the most casual and bandwagon Bucks fan ever. And I bemoan the bandwagon fan. Moreso when one flips team allegiance to the hot item of the year, but bandwagon nonetheless. I hate the iso game of the NBA. It is the reason that I simply dont tune in. I only watch the Bucks when it comes playoff time or when the NBA full court package is free to start the season and midseason and only if they are performing well. While Bogut is a great player, they just dont have any star power. Furthermore, star power comes from the isolation game, so again I dont know if I could get behind having a Kobe Bryant on the Bucks to make me tune in on a nightly basis. That said, when I look back at the three most recent Bucks runs, the 2009-2010 season that many are referencing in here felt EXACLTY the same as the 2003-2004 playoff appearance (first round loss to Detroit). It was nothing like the 2000-2001 season in which they narrowly missed the Finals. There was just a feeling of medocrity about the 2009-2010 season, from this casual fan anyway. Sure they won some regular season games against some really good teams, but there was just nothing at the end of the night that screamed they were overly GOOD. I tuned in to every single playoff game, yet it was more of a "can my hometown underdog team pull it off" mentality than "this team is good, I'm excited" kind of deal.
  3. Is anybody even slightly pissed off about the new wild card proposal? I'm all for adding an additional Wild Card (5th playoff team). However, I think that having the 4-seed play the 5-seed in a one game, winner take all playoff game, just absolutely ridiculous. I think it's pretty well established that 1 game does not decide much in baseball. I was all for the proposal to do a 3-game series in this case, with a home doubleheader as games 2 and 3, to avoid stretching out the postseason too much. However, wouldn't the following situation be a travesty......??? For example, going into game #162 NL East Philly 97 wins, Atlanta 87 wins, New York 82 wins, blah blah NL Central St. Louis 95 wins, Milwaukee 94 wins, Chicago 83 wins blah blah NL West Arizona 90 wins, LAD 82 wins, blah blah So basically, Philly and Arizona have already clinched divisions. Milwaukee and Atlanta have already clinched playoff spots, but Milwaukee is fighting for a division. Atlanta has clinched a playoff spot for a week and rests it's starters. Milwaukee, in an effort to win the division and avoid the wild card round, starts Zach Greinke in game #162 on 3-days rest. Atlanta has it's #1 starter rested for 5 days, have clinched with no shot at winning their division. Brewers start Greinke in game #162 and lose 1-0. Now in a 1-game, winner take all, playoff vs Atlanta, despite being 7 games better over the season, they throw against the Braves #1 starter with whoever has the most rest at that point, #3 starter, whatever. I have a tough time swallowing that.
  4. Brewers in 6. Wins in games #1, #2, #4, and #6.
  5. Just happen to be up from Florida teaching in Madison this week. Can anybody advise what the market/availability has been like for the Uecker or SRO's during the playoffs?
  6. A little County Stadium love! http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s85/smcclintonjr/Farve%20Archives/FAVRE94TD.jpg
  7. The Powerball draws tomorrow...can I get some help? In all seriousness, like every other thread involving realignment, I think you are right. Some thing is going to have be conceded. I don't think they are going to do away with the AL & NL for an East vs West deal. I don't think they are going to drastically redraw the divisions. The change with the least impact would seem to be an interleague series everyday, 15-team leagues, while doing away with the DH. Either that or making sure the schedules are even in that the number of interleague games you play at home vs away are the same. I get the history of it and I do prefer to watch a pitcher hit. However, if you gave me a choice of scrambling all the divisions and schedules or just having a DH hit for the pitcher for 3-4 PA's a game, I'll take doing away with the DH or DH for both leagues. I dont know when this will happen, but I'd say closer to 2013 than 2016, before Selig's term ends.
  8. This seems like a damn good deal. I am in the market for my first tablet. Considering it can wirelessly print to my HP printer, this may be the route to go. I can take it on the road and surf the net, I'm golden. The negative seems to be lack of new development of Apps?...who cares! I wonder what wireless network carriers I can shove into this thing?
  9. I actually prefer to go on the road in the NLCS. Throw your best pitchers (#1,#2) on the road and throw your weaker pitchers (#3,#4) at home. Then #1 gets to go on the road again. Hope you take care of business at home and let your best pitchers outdual the other team to steal one on the road.
  10. I don't want to catch Philly. Only 1 time in the past 10 years has the team with the best regular season record gone on to win the World Series. That was the Yankees in 2009. Being the team to beat in August means didly-poo except that you are probably making the tournament..that's it. If you are strictly talking about the National League "team to beat", it's even more of a case that you don't want to be the "team to beat". Only 1 time in the past ten years in the National League, has the #1 overall seed actually won the NL pennant to get to the World Series.....in fact 60% (6/10) of the time, it's been the wild card or the team with the worst record in the NL that won the pennant. So much for being the team to beat, in my honest opinion. I'll take the #2 seed without hesitation.
  11. I don't think you'll see any extensions handed out in October. If they make the WS, but don't win it, then I think you might see the most serious play for Prince Fielder. If you win a WS, I think they'll "be content" and let Prince move on. Unless of course, he enjoys it so much with his friends Rickie and others that he takes a hometown discount. A failure to make the playoffs or a quick exit and I think he is gone with no chance to return.
  12. There is no absolute. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't on getaway days. Usually, the Brewers don't take BP on getaway days, especially if they are riding a hot streak. Away teams at Miller Park rarely decline batting practice, even on getaway days. If I were a betting man, I'd bet you don't get the opportunity to watch the Brewers take BP, as they only have a few minutes remaining after the gates open anyhow. But expect the Dodgers to be taking BP.
  13. I prefer they (Hart/McGehee) just start instead of pussyfooting around needing to the exhaust the bench in extras.
  14. Don't we have a ways to go before then? Could be a 10-game lead by then http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. Pitchers hitting the rest of the way for the crew? With Saito out, who's left in the pen? DeLaCruz and Loe?
  16. Was that 2 unassisted? gameday didnt advise, only that fielders choice with Paul out at home.
  17. In other pertinent scores across MLB~~ Reds Lose Braves Lose (Even with Brewers if Brewers Win) Giants Win http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif D-Backs losing in the 3rd.
  18. Texas is at .979, second worst in the AL and is working on 17 games over .500
  19. I'm fine with guys getting a day off, just don't like when they are grouped on a Sunday. Additionally, when the bench hasn't produced and you haven't given potentially better talent at AAA a chance to get acclimated to the MLB to improve that bench for such a Sunday. It's a fanatical rant. There's no right or wrong. Nobody is calling for RR's head. It's just frustrating. I think most fans just want the best chance to win everyday, Sundays included http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Maybe so. It's disappointing to see a .150 hitter and a .196 leadoff hitter in the same lineup irregardless. That having the series locked part is garbage however. You have to play for today. Don't concede a game simply because a series is already won.
  21. They are 12-9 on the year on Sunday, IIRC. I don't know the opponents nor the exact distribution of the lineup. All I know is today, when the lineup came out and I seen the bodies that were absent and replaced by the bodies listed, I had that feeling that we'd be shut out today. With the talent on this team, the bodies available at AAA, I don't think a fan should ever have that feeling that the best possible talent isn't being trotted out to play. It's not like they've played 18 in a row or anything or that the matchups suit the situation. It's bench play Sunday, and I hate it.
  22. Who cares if brewerfan has killed Casey all year...he's the #5 hitter and he was sat along with the #1 hitter for a couple of guys who have been scuffling all year long. You're at home against a team that hasn't shown an ability to get anything going and you let them off the hook by trotting out this lineup. It's 2/8ths different from the everyday lineup (sans rickie and the pitcher). That's 25% and that's significant. A couple of guys who are hot are sitting for a bunch of scrubs. Should we be shocked that they are a combined 1 for 8 on the day? You don't think the rest of the guys in that locker room don't get a little dejected when they see what's being trotted out there today? And for what? Simply because it's Sunday, they've got the series won, and RR is settling. I don't want to hear some rhetoric that this is the normal lineup sans Corey Hart, that's garbage.
