  1. I worked with Rottino in HS and went to college with him. As much as I would to have loved to see him play more often in a Brewer uniform, I'm glad he was traded and I wished it had happened even before the 2008 season. He wasn't going to get much of a chance with Brewers so I'm glad he's getting a chance to go somewhere else and possibly get a better shot.
  2. We'll be at Saturday and Sunday's game. We'll be watching the game tonight at Whiskey Girl.
  3. "We'll be aggressive, but smart." I'd say at this point, DM is being smart. I would have loved for them to make a move as well, but the asking price to get a pitcher to improve a team that is only at .500 because of an incredible 26 game stretch, is too high. The fact is, we have 5-6 starters that have greatly underachieved this year and that can't be made up in a trade. Disappointing, but it happens. I think DM realizes that he would need to give up too much of the future to get the pieces the Brewers need to actually make it to the World Series. I know anything can happen in baseball, but chances are even if the Brewers somehow made the playoffs, the Phillies will probably beat up on anyone in the NL. I don't want the Brewers to just make the playoffs, I want them to do something once they get there. This is not the year it's going to happen, based on what we've seen so far. I hope I'm dead wrong.
  4. Where ever he is, I'm sure he's hunkered down at the local watering hole watching the Brewers and everytime someone strikes out, he yells something at the TV towards that player(while others around look at him funny).
  5. I told my buddies at the beginning of the year that the Brewers should look at trying to get Halladay. I didn't want anything to do with Peavy. They all said that Toronto wouldn't trade because they were doing so well and I told them to just wait because the Jays wouldn't be able to keep that pace in their division. I started to backoff my position of getting Halladay for a while, and now I'm back on board that I think they Brewers should make a serious play for him and include Hardy in the trade. You'll most likely get him for 1.5 years. And as much as I like Hardy, I think he'll have a strong 2nd half, in the long run with Escobar coming up he'll be much cheaper than Hardy. If the Brewers keep Hardy, it's going to eat up money they could be using to shore up other spots that the team is weak at. If the Brewers aren't in it next year, they can trade Halladay to get top prospects or MLB players, or at least get some high draft picks if he leaves. And who knows, if Halladay likes it here, he may sign to play here longer. He took a hometown discount in Toronto, maybe he'd do the same to play in Milwaukee for a contender.
  6. Great stuff. I love hearing about the Cubs getting hammered by their fans AND the newspaper that owns them. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/
  7. I agree. I don't buy the whole addiction thing. He's been in rehab. He knew exactly what he had to gain and had to lose. The Brewers paid him a lot of money and it will likely be money thrown out the window. Is he subject to testing while he's suspended? If so, I'm willing to bet he'll never pitch again in the minors.
  8. I love having Gamel and had thought the Brewers should take the approach that they did with Braun when he came up. Use him for his bat, hope nothing too bad happens in the field, then replace him near the end of games as needed with a defensive replacement. However, with how free-swinging Gamel is, he's striking out too much to be effective in many of his AB's. If he could at least put more balls in play, I'd still say to keep him with the Brewers, but if he's going to swing at anything, send him back down to get him playing everyday again and keep him sharp for later in the year if they need him.
  9. So which Manny Parra will show up today? How long do we think he's going to go? 3 innings or 6 innings? How will the Brewers do against a pitcher making his debut? It always seems to me that the Brewers stuggle the most against guys making their MLB debuts. Some good little subplots to todays game, should be an interesting one.
  10. From Haudricourt: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/47000887.html (linkified by hawing)
  11. That must be why the Brewers are winning and the Reds can't score-Yovanni's band-aid.
  12. I say Macha should tell Hall that's he can be the regular starter at 2B. Let Gamel play 3B everyday and replace him at the end of the games with Counsell if needed. Who knows, maybe Macha is waiting for Counsell to cool off, and that's what he's going to do.
  13. I figure the article by TH is an indication that he has now heard something, or thinks there really is some legitimacy to the Brewers attempting to get Peavy. As was said, he's been pretty hard set that the Brewers wouldn't go for Peavy, and now he's totally reversing his stance so there might be something to it. I think now that it's been shown that Peavy really prefers to stay in the NL that cuts down on a lot of possibilities of who Peavy could have gone to since the AL is out. Now you're only talking about a couple of teams that really would make a move for him, and it brings down SD's bargaining power quite a bit.
  14. Sorry if this belongs somewhere else. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2009/05/harden-goes-to-cubs-dl-with-back-strain.html Edit: Post icon and linkability added. --cc
  15. You're right, it is too much.
  16. Macha puts him in positions to fail?? The only other position to put him in is a platoon where he only faces left-handers. I don't think it's too much to ask of a Major League player who would like to be an everyday starter to hit a meager .200 against right-handers.
  17. I don't know if I'm happier to see that Gamel homered, or that it gives us a great chance to be able to untuck the shirts later on.
  18. Okay, for the HD it's the Cardinals, and on regular FSW, it's the Brewers. What's up with that? I'm going to be mildly irritated if I have to watch the game in non-HD because it's the Cardinal feed for HD.
  19. Anyone else getting FSCardinals for the pre-game? And I like their quote when they were heading to a commercial: "the Brewers have won 19 of their last 25, of course with their shirts untucked." LET IT GO!!!
  20. I think the point was is that the Brewers have a 4-run lead and we have to replace someone. Put in Gamel and see what happens while they have a 4 run cushion. I think if it was later in the game, Macha would have gone with Gamel. Still too early and the Cards have too much time to catch up.
  21. I was able to get some last minute tickets to the game last night. I was hesitant about going because the Brewers had lost the last 11 games that I had been at. Yes, the last 11. What are the odds of that?? In any case, now that my streak is over, I'm going to try and score some tix for tonight's game. Go Crew!
  22. It's so nice to have a closer come in and have absolute confidence that in all likelyhood, the game is over.
  23. If Looper comes out for the 6th, you know what's going to happen.
  24. 1250 WSSP was talking about Manny Parra on the pre-game show tonight on the round table and they all seemed to agree with a suggestion that CC Sabathia had for Parra, and that was for him to stop using so many different pitches. Stop using 4, 5, 6 pitches, and just use 3. I think if Sabathia is giving me advice, I'd at least give it a shot.
