I know this isn't really Melvin's style, but Sand Diego is going nowhere, and Quentin is a proven bat. This would allow you to put Corey at first base permanently, and would have a ripple effect on the rest of the lineup. You could even package Morgan or Gomez in the deal to prevent a further logjam out there.
wow, this got ugly. I was just asking if maybe let Carlos play some late-inning SS once in awhile rather than having waste-of-roster-space guys on the team.
With the extra wild card spots keeping more teams in the race longer, as well as the glut of starting pithing reaching free agency after this season, I could see this either being a very dead or potentially interesting trade market. Any thoughts? One observation, with all that pitching out there, some big prospects/bats could be on the move for a top-flight starter rental.
"Besides, Selig has further devalued the regular season by adding another playoff team. Miami is focused on the Heat now and April games are tough sells." I don't agree with that statement. The extra playoff team is essentially just making it harder to get into the playoffs proper, because not only do you have to make the wild card, you have to win a one-off playoff game to boot. If anything, this makes the regular season more important.
I was reading an article this morning that said Carlos Gomez is a former shortstop, and still takes grounders there before every game. Why have we not looked at him to fill in at short every few days, or even on a more permanent basis. He's certainly athletic. With the glut of outfielders on our roster and with the way Gomez has been hitting so far, am I crazy to think he could be our backup SS?
My new baseball hero. Welcome to the cult, my friend. You will never leave! It was mere accident of birth that I became a Brewer faithful, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I have been extremely frustrated by the service, particularly for internet inside Miller Park, but it looks like this will be fixed for Opening Day! http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/146198285.html
OK, so we sign Jose Reyes, move Hart to 1st, let Prince walk, start Taylor Green at 3rd, sign an outfielder with a bat, play Gomez at centerfield, and we should be set. Oh, and sign another starter #3 starter and a late-inning reliever.
I've been a fan since i was a little kid (i was born in 82). My most memorable game is honestly this past sunday. That sixth inning was something special. I will never forget that atmosphere and excitement.
