  1. Smart play by Ross going with the collision and spinning out after he got the tag. Nice "BRUUUUUUCE" chants from the 5,000 Cincy fans there today.
  2. Yeah, I have to imagine that a double steal sign came from the dugout -- by all accounts, they were both off and running at the same time. It was an unneccesary risk, but I guess I'm fine with it since it turned out okay and the Reds' catchers have been struggling all series long. Hopefully Suppan get get through the 7th or so without giving up any more runs.
  3. The Reds are doing their best Brewers defense impression this inning -- it's nice to be on the other end of that for once. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Homer's gone...let's feast on the bullpen, now.
  4. Brian is disgusted by all this fraternizing between Braun and Bailey...I personally don't see the big deal. This has been a pretty fun team to watch the past couple of days, aside from Suppan's pitching. It's great to see them having so much fun on the field, especially after what happened Monday night.
  5. It was nice to see Bush get that low strike called after the first inning. It was kind of ridiculous to see Bush not get those calls in the bottom of the first, then Volquez striking out Cameron and Kendall on pitches that looked pretty low, but at least the ump started to call things pretty evenly after that. I loved Prince's HR -- when Masset pitched him up and in the second time in a row, it reminded me of the Pittsburgh situation and I said something like "Ask Matt Capps how this turns out..." -- sure enough, Prince crushes the next pitch. I know Brian and Bill didn't like the showmanship, but I caught the highlights of this game on BBTN afterwards, and John Kruk and Eric Young seemed to agree that whenever the pitcher tries to hit you above the shoulders, you deserve to admire your shot for a little bit. Hopefully they keep this up tomorrow -- too bad we won't get to see another Sabathibomb off Bailey, though.
  6. Steve Smith broke a teammate's nose and put him out of action. If Prince Fielder injured Manny Parra, you could bet that he'd be getting more than a tongue-lashing from Yost and his teammates. Judging by the way the entire roster rushed in to pull Prince away, it looked like everyone already knows that this kind of behavior isn't acceptable. I personally think it's unfair to label the organization as "appeasing" especially after they dumped Estrada for peanuts for the headaches he caused them last year, but that's a topic that I'll leave for the thread about this incident, instead of the game thread.
  7. How do we know that Ned didn't tear into Prince and the other players behind closed doors last night? According to TH, the media wasn't allowed in the locker room immediately after the game like they usually are -- it wouldn't surprise me if Yost lectured both Prince and Manny after last night's incident. Ned's only responsibility is to win baseball games. Sitting Prince tonight would likely cost the Brewers the game, and then he'd be getting blasted by the media for putting his own personal agenda ahead of winning games while they're trying to win the wildcard.
  8. Until the top two spots in the order start getting on base, the RISP problem won't get better. With nobody to hit in, guys like Braun and Fielder are left sitting on the basepaths when they're depending on guys like Craig Counsell and Jason Kendall to hit them in, and it's pretty frustrating to watch. Here's to hoping Durham and Hardy can actually get on base tonight, and Prince envisions the baseball as Manny Parra's head and hits a few out.
  9. I don't think any of the reporters asking him what happened are naive -- they're just doing their jobs. Since they hang around Ned (and every other manager in the majors) nearly every day, they probably know better than anyone that they're not going to get a very straight answer, but they wouldn't be doing their jobs as journalists if they didn't at least ask. If you get lucky, the manager spills the beans, but you'll most likely have to find someone willing to speak anonymously, like it looks like TH did ("someone who overheard" etc.).
  10. I see the Ned/Graffanino/Estrada thing being a bigger deal than this. That showed frustration with the manager and the way he was treating younger players. This was most likely the result of frustration from playing like garbage for a week and Prince missing a couple plays he should've made. Prince definitely overreacted, but I'm not about to call this the point where the season goes down the toilet. I'm not about to say he should sit for the rest of the series, either -- he's been the only Brewer consistently hitting over the past week and willingly taking him out of the lineup would be forfeiting the rest of the series. Lock Prince and Manny in the same room until they get things sorted out, have Prince apologize to the team in a closed door meeting, whatever...just show up to play again tomorrow after clearing the air. It's a shame this had to happen on camera, though, especially when ESPN's game tonight was in a tornado warning delay and they had nothing else to talk about. Now every game the team plays for the next week is going to be over-analyzed and given the "they must be responding to that fight in Cincinnati!" spin.
  11. Well, this game sucks. At least they won another road series. Hopefully the Phils can beat the Cards tonight and the Brewers can take it to the Reds.
  12. Weeks had a decent AB there, but that change-up is nasty. Froze him and buckled his knees...he's definitely not the first Brewers hitter to react that way today. Hopefully Campillo gets out of the game soon and the Brewers can beat the bullpen, but at this point it looks like they just want to get the hell out of the Atlanta heat and head to Cincy.
  13. Wow, incredible play by Prince there. Looks like the big man can go up the ladder every once and awhile. Hopefully that play injects a little life into the offense.
  14. Well, I suppose it would be a little bit too much to ask to sweep three straight road series. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  15. Kapler goes down swinging on a logo-on-the-helmet high fastball...not even Cameron or Hall would've swung at that garbage. Ugh.
  16. Thanks for making the first out at third, Braves...turns out to be a pretty easy inning for Benny.
  17. With a sub-3.00 ERA, I think it's safe to say the rest of the NL hasn't, either. At least this isn't as bad as getting shut down by Charlie Morton.
  18. Crappy AB by Kapler. Cameron could've done that. Ben's velocity looks fine as usual, but he's still not able to find his control. Doesn't help that this ump doesn't seem to want to call the low strikes.
  19. Bummer...another first inning run. Heck of an AB by Kotsay, though, and that pitch he hit for the RBI double was actually a pretty good pitch. Not much else Ben could've done to get him there.
  20. Considering you usually don't get games on National TV unless you're playing a pretty good team, it doesn't surprise me that the Brewers' record isn't that great in those games. It could be better, sure, but I wouldn't sweat playing poorly in a handful of games.
  21. Tying run to the plate, heart rate increases....please don't make a huge mistake, Torres. Let this guy get himself out.
  22. I thought they had Torres warming from the start of the top of the 9th -- it seems like he would've been ready to start the bottom half. I guess Ned decided that he was going to pinch hit for Sabathia if his spot came up in the order, but since the Brewers went down 1-2-3, he decided to leave him in there to start the inning. I would've preferred to let Torres start the inning clean instead of with a guy on base, but at least Sabathia took care of one of the outs. Hopefully Torres doesn't make this interesting like he did in the last trip to Atlanta.
  23. CC back out. Ned makes me want to use one of my strikes. Why not put Torres in after that leadoff double?
  24. While I agree that the Brewers certainly have every right to get everything out of Sabathia that they can, they also run the risk of wearing down Sabathia to the point where he's ineffective in September and October. He threw 241 innings for Cleveland in the regular season last year, and was completely ineffective in the playoffs. If the Brewers make the playoffs for the first time in 26 years, I'd prefer that their pitchers haven't logged so many innings that they're useless in October. I have no problem with keeping him in there for a close game, but a 4-1 lead in the 9th inning against this Braves team is pretty safe. Bring in Torres for some work and let CC rest his arm with a lighter workload.
