  1. Wow, I got up after Mota pitched the bottom of the 8th to get ready to go out to dinner tonight, figuring there'd be a fake rally in the 9th. Imagine my surprise when I come back and notice the game is tied. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Let's steal another one.
  2. Another one-run win. Pound sand, Pythagoras.
  3. http://artfiles.art.com/images/-/Victory-Print-C10018155.jpeg
  4. How many chances are the Dodgers going to give the Brewers to close this one out? 10? 12?
  5. Time to officially fire up the "Villanueva for Closer" bandwagon if Torres is down. Hopefully it goes better than that "Mota for Closer" bandwagon back in April.
  6. Hardy redeems himself with a go-ahead RBI single. Please please please please hold this lead, Riske.
  7. Ryan Braun really ticks me off sometimes. Nice Soriano impression. I need to step away from this thread for awhile before I have to make a visit to the vent thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  8. Torres survives Casey Blake's grittiness. Hopefully they can pull this one out in extras, but if Torres can't nail this one down, I don't have much faith in anyone else.
  9. This ninth inning is like one kick in the crotch after another. Why do I subject myself to this?
  10. The game should be over right now, and that runner never should've gotten home. Way to be sharp, Hardy.
  11. J.J. Hardy has had a brutal game defensively....ugh.
  12. Shouse has one stinking job to do....ugh. Hopefully Torres isn't rattled by having to come in with a runner on now. I can't fault Ned for trying to go with the match-up there, but hindsight says "Hell, Torres could've done that." I don't know if I'd be able to take it if Torres can't nail this down.
  13. Insurance runs would've been nice, considering it's Ethier-Kent-Ramirez in the 9th inning. The tortured Brewerfan in me thinks this one feels like a stomach-punch game in the making. Prove me wrong, Sal.
  14. I'm sure the JSOnline commenters still hate him because he missed two plays back in June. The guy has been incredible on this road trip, though, and his bat is really starting to heat up. This is a great time for Cam to catch on fire.
  15. Apparently it's Web Gem night at Dodger Stadium...who says the Brewers can't play defense? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  16. Maybe Gagne will revert back to 2003 form now that he's back on the mound in Dodger Stadium.
  17. Never question Joe Torre, he has all those World Series championships to prove he's a great manager.
  18. HARDY BOMB, BREWERS LEAD! The mere presence of Ryan Braun has willed this team to score more runs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. HOLY. FREAKING. CRAP. That's got to be the craziest catch I've ever seen. I always wondered what it would be like if someone went tumbling over those short walls in Dodger Stadium (or Fenway, for that matter). Freaking incredible.
  20. According to Witrado, Braun is available to pinch-hit tonight and hopes to start tomorrow afternoon. On a slightly off-topic note, for those interested in seeing Michael Phelps' final race, it's supposed to be on around 9:50 PM CT on NBC.
  21. With stuff like this, I'd say Tom is pretty lucky to have seniority at the J-S. If Witrado was the one pulling this crap, his butt would be kicked to the curb pretty quickly. The J-S has been cutting jobs left and right lately, and if Haudricourt wasn't a vet, the J-S probably wouldn't mind cutting one more. I realize being such a high-profile writer for the only paper in town is likely a tough gig because you're always ticking someone off, and some days you're not going to be in a very good mood. However, everything I've ever heard about him indicates he's a bit of a frosty guy in general that doesn't like to be questioned. That comes from his blog comments, e-mails he's responded to, and just the way he's always presented himself. Even in his "apology" he was acting like a bit of a jerk, saying he "didn't want to hurt anyone's feelings." I can't even imagine the vast amounts of crappy e-mails he has to sift through every day, but the best way to deal with that is to ignore the stuff that is blatantly written to get under your skin and take everything else as constructive criticism...but maybe that's just easy for me to say because I'm a mellow guy. I agree that the best thing would probably be to just shut the comments off altogether. Now that Tom has publicly stated that he's not going to respond to anything that gets posted in the comments, we're going to see all kinds of people trying to provoke him, and it's only going to further dilute what was already a pretty diluted discussion forum.
  22. True, I forgot to look at Rollins' OBP problems this year, and it looks like his slugging is taking a huge dip this year, too. He's probably peaked, but I thought it'd be an interesting idea.
  23. I really don't think Weeks' strikeout rate would be brought up as often as it is if he had a few more hits falling in. Ryan Braun has more strikeouts than anyone on the roster and it's almost never mentioned. My vent is how much Kevin Gregg sucks. When Daryle Ward hits a 3-run pinch-hit HR to put you ahead in the 9th inning, you know you've got a horseshoe lodged somewhere. Baseball is a funny game...the Brewers go on an 8-game winning streak and only pick up a game or so, then they lose back-to-back games and find themselves further behind the Cubs than when they started the streak.
  24. It seems as though Jimmy Rollins is slowly falling out of favor in Philadelphia. After being benched a few games for things like showing up to the park late and not hustling on ground balls, it already seemed like Rollins wasn't getting along with manager Charlie Manuel. Recently, Rollins has gotten blasted in the Philly media for saying that Phillies fans are front-runners. It's probably an overreaction, but some have suggested that Rollins' time in Philly might come to an end soon. So, while it's probably not a likely match with the Brewers, what would you give up for Rollins, a guy who could potentially solve the Brewers' leadoff man problems while providing good defense? His contract situation: 09:$7.5M, 10:$7.5M, 11:$8.5M ($2M buyout) Hypothetically, would Philly be interested in a guy like J.J. Hardy? He doesn't have the speed Rollins does and his defense isn't as good, but he wouldn't be a bad replacement. I realize that Rollins probably isn't going anywhere, but I figured it'd be a fun thing to talk about since transaction news has slowed down a bit. Edit: Holy wacky font sizes, Batman.
  25. I really don't think Sheets will settle for 3/$50...someone (Texas?) is bound to give him a 4th year that the Brewers would be iffy about, right? We probably don't have to worry about the Yankees jumping in on the bidding since you'd think Cashman would be scared away from pitchers with previous injuries after the Pavano deal. They might make a run at Sabathia, but I'd be pretty surprised if CC isn't a Dodger or Angel next season.
