  1. Ben to CC: "Anything you can do, I can do better..."
  2. So much for that "we don't need to make a trade because Mulder and Carpenter are coming back" talk coming out of St. Louis, huh? Looks like Ben's got it going on early. Two strikeouts before Anderson can even tell us who's playing defense.
  3. Meh...who cares? The Brewers don't have to catch the Cubs, they only have to catch the Cards and stay ahead of whatever NL East team that finishes in second place. Let the Cubs run away with their division title again, as long as the Brewers make it in as a wild card. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  4. Don't know if this is the right thread for it, but Jeff Passan wrote an article about Sabathia's first start last night: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AqN4qFT6c0DyWbdkpXr6YfQ5nYcB?slug=jp-sabathia070808&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
  5. Harang's IP the past few years: 2007: 231.7 2006: 234.3 2005: 211.7 The guy has thrown a ton of innings the past few years; it was only a matter of time before he started to break down -- I don't think he's been "Dusty'd" since this is Dusty's first year, and Harang's been getting abused for a couple years now. He's definitely a horse, but it's starting to catch up to him. I still remember that 10-inning shutout he threw against the Brewers...ugh.
  6. What are the number of different injuries? Yesterday during the Brewers broadcast BA repeated a couple times that Rich Harden has had 6 different injuries in his 6 years in the majors. That's more than Sheets, but I don't know how accurate it is, but it's a contest I wouldn't want to win. Anderson said it was 6 DL trips in his 6 year career, but even that doesn't really do justice to the injury problems he's had. I believe those 6 DL trips have come in the last 4 years, as I have been a tortured Harden owner in fantasy baseball, but I could be wrong.
  7. That .386 OBP would be pretty sexy hitting ahead of Braun and Fielder. If he could be had for cheap I wouldn't mind seeing him split some time with Rickie at second.
  8. I really don't think it's risky at all. All they gave up for Harden was their #3 pitcher and a bunch of their young back-ups -- nothing they would really miss even if Harden went down. It looks like the Cubs are keeping Marquis in the rotation for the time being, so Gaudin will slip into a long relief role. If Harden goes down, Gaudin can move into the rotation, and they still have Sean Marshall -- like the Brewers, they dealt from depth to improve their rotation. The fact that Harden has a relatively cheap option considering how much talent he has reduces the risk even more, in my opinion. A team like the Cubs has no problem picking up a $7 million option on a guy who's healthy half the year -- if Harden actually stays healthy, I have no doubts that the dude is never leaving Chicago.
  9. All those Sabathia t-shirts and jerseys are going to be pretty interesting collector's items after this year is done. It'd be like buying a Jerry Rice Seattle Seahawks jersey. Decent first start for CC, even though he was overthrowing everything and couldn't locate his slider because of it (not to mention a pretty shaky strike zone). I was getting worried when I saw that Gagne was warming up when the score was still 4-3, but the insurance runs calmed the nerves a bit, and Gagne looked good once again. It'll be interesting to see how he responds once he gets his first rough outing since his return, though. Even Riske looked really good out of the pen. With Sheets going against Glendon Rusch (!!) tomorrow, I have confidence in at least getting a split guaranteed in this series before Dave Bush starts again. It sucks that the Cubs and Cards won (they beat Cole Hamels despite him K'ing 8 and only allowing 3 hits in 7 innings..unbelievable), but at least the Crew kept the pace. Hopefully they can gain some ground tomorrow.
  10. I believe all LDS games are broadcast by TBS. LCS games will either be covered by TBS or FOX, depending on the year. I believe this year FOX has the NL and TBS has the AL.
  11. And there's the inning-ending DP... ...oh wait, the ump at second decided to call Spilborghs safe even though he slid a foot past second base and Rickie tagged him. Nevermind.
  12. Wow...a hell of an effort by the Rockies there but everyone's safe. I was surprised Braun was called safe at second, but I guess Nix was so far off the base they didn't want to give it to him.
  13. I like second inning CC better than first inning CC.
  14. BRAUN!! Holy crap did that one fly...did it hit the front of the Metavante Club??
  15. Little amped up that first inning, wasn't he? Hopefully the K settles him down a little.
  16. I'm waiting for Brian to pull a Sesame Street and say "This broadcast is brought to you by the letter C".
  17. The Harden deal only increases my excitement for this race. I really can't wait for the end of the month now.
  18. Jim Hendry is denying that this move was made as a response to the Sabathia trade. According to him, he's been talking to Billy Beane for weeks, with things intensifying about 10 days ago. It wouldn't surprise me if the Sabathia trade caused a little more urgency in the trade talks, though. With that said, I wonder what Beane wants for Huston Street. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  19. Every pitcher is conceivably one pitch from the DL, though. As giffted said, even if Harden only makes half of his starts the rest of the season, this is a pretty good deal for the Cubs -- they didn't really lose anything that was of value to them, and they didn't even really need to make this trade. It'll definitely make things interesting down the stretch...maybe we'll see a CC/Harden match-up somewhere down the road. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. I always dismissed any Harden rumors that involved the Cubs sending Gallagher, because it seemed like they'd be taking one step back in order to take two steps forward -- Harden would be replacing Gallagher in the rotation in that scenario, and not Jason Marquis, who's the one that needs to be replaced. Also getting Gaudin back in return not only provides injury insurance for Harden, but also bumps Marquis out of the rotation -- two birds with one stone. Good trade for the Cubs. I always kind of thought the A's would make a run at Matt Murton one day, with his good OBP numbers and everything. Patterson hasn't really gotten the chance to show what he can do at the majors so far, but he could end up being a solid middle infielder, and Gallagher could end up being a top of the rotation starter. While the Cubs' offer for Harden doesn't include the star prospect the Brewers' Sabathia offer did, I think Oakland got better value than the Indians did (basically LaPorta and low-level guys). The A's got 3 guys who could end up starting for them this week (and cheap), which is probably more valuable to Oakland this year.
  21. No offense taken...I wish Woogie was around to make a sparkling new "Welcome to Milwaukee" graphic for CC, too, but it looks like he hasn't been able to make IGT's for awhile.
