  1. Riske's HBP of Glaus looked less unintentional and came after the warnings, but the fact that it loaded the bases probably saved Riske from getting tossed. It's not like the Brewers don't ever return HBP's -- when Fielder got hit on Friday night following the Braun homer, Kameron Loe did hit Alex Gonzalez on a pitch that was up and in, IIRC. I can see a Braves fan thinking that was retaliatory. With this team's history with the Pirates, though, I agree that things could get ugly this week. It doesn't help that the pitching staff is going to be strained with Capuano starting tonight, so it's not like they could spare a pitcher to serve a suspension.
  2. Rickie Weeks with a new single season career high for HR...good to see him put together the kind of year we always thought he would. Get a couple more runs this inning and perhaps they're still in this game?
  3. Whoops...can't fault the infield defense for that one. 0-2 pitch down the middle.
  4. Can we charge that first run to Prince for missing that ball down the first base line? Defense definitely didn't do Manny any favors there, but he can only blame himself for that rocket double by Diaz. Typically can't expect a guy to hit that pitch, but the scouting report would say he loves the ball down there.
  5. As ridiculous as the beanballs have been the past couple nights, Angel Hernandez did a really good job of making sure that situation didn't get a lot worse, putting his arm around Prince and walking him down to first.
  6. Looking at the weather for the Atlanta area, it might take a minor miracle to get this game in. Maybe that's why Bobby Cox didn't bother filling out a real lineup.
  7. If Narveson's going to give up his usual 3 first-inning runs tonight, he's going to have to almost try to be that bad against a lineup like that.
  8. I've seen Prince take some crazy hacks, but I don't know if he's swung at many pitches harder than he swung at that he pulled down the line. It's awesome to get these insurance runs.
  9. I'm not usually one to call out HBP's as intentional, but that one to Fielder on the first pitch after the Braun HR sure seemed like it was, didn't it?
  10. I don't think Casey was jogging. That's about as fast as he can run. It almost looks like he's running like his knee still isn't quite right.
  11. Brian and Bill made it sound like it was Fischer this time. He was incredibly lucky that throw bounced high when it short hopped McCann. I wish we could get Randolph back out there at third.
  12. It's funny you should mention robot overlords. Meet Cyborg Hanson Tommy: http://a2.twimg.com/profile_images/825679578/cyborg2.PNG
  13. Moore pitched in 8 games (3 starts) in his first "season" and started 12 games in his second season when he repeated rookie ball. This is his second year of full-season baseball. He's leading the Florida State League in strikeouts. He's in his age 21 season. Let's not act like he's on the verge of flaming out. With that said, I do still prefer Davis, but I don't think Moore would be a bad piece to get, especially for Corey Hart.
  14. I believe Macha said yesterday that Edmonds will be starting Saturday's game. Pure speculation on my part, but perhaps Gomez is playing tonight because Macha knows Edmonds can't play 3 days in a row without hurting something.
  15. Beckham and Hudson would be a pretty solid package for Prince considering all the rumors Olney's heard about Fielder's value being low. I have a hard time believing the White Sox would trade Hudson in-season with Jake Peavy out the rest of the year, but maybe the Brewers could expand the deal to Fielder and Dave Bush and see if they can get an additional prospect or something.
  16. The run distribution stuff was annoying when they started doing it during the nine-game losing streak, and it's only gotten worse. It's just a convenient way for them to complain about what's been one of the best offenses in the National League in terms of overall numbers. It can go the other way, too. Take out the 12-2 loss to Chicago, 11-3 loss to Atlanta, 15-3 loss to Minnesota, 13-5 loss to Florida, and 15-2 loss to San Francisco and this is one of the best pitching staffs in the league!
  17. This Braves bullpen is really, really good. Hopefully the Brewers can keep it at 2-1 and get something going against Billy Wagner.
  18. What the heck was McGehee thinking there? Do the Brewers not have the scouting report on Heyward's arm?
  19. Lineups have been edited into the lead post. Heyward back off the DL for the Braves, and Alex Gonzalez makes his Atlanta debut tonight.
  20. I don't even know if you could say the Braves are selling low on Escobar. It's a lot worse than that. Before this year, he hit a combined .301/.375/.426 in three seasons, and they traded him for a guy having a fluke season. The crazy things clubs will do to get rid of players they think are problems. It'll be interesting to see if the Braves are willing to make more moves (specifically, still engage in talks about Corey Hart), or if they think their offensive WOAHs are magically solved by trading for a guy with 18 HR at the break.
  21. Dear Brian Sabean, Have fun with Jose Bautista. Signed, Doug Melvin. With Tampa Bay and Atlanta possibly in the picture now, I don't really have any interest in what the Giants have to offer. It doesn't make sense for them to deal either pitcher if they're getting Corey Hart to help them make a push in the NL West, because they don't have any good replacements for them at the moment. The Rays (and to a lesser extent the Braves) have a surplus they can deal from, and they wouldn't miss a beat. I'm not sure why the Brewers would be interested in Moore over Davis, either. I guess you could say service time, but Davis is still considered a rookie this season despite coming up for a bit last year -- that's still 5.5 years of control. I would hope they're not scared off by his early big league results -- yeah, he's had a rough first 100 innings or so in the big leagues, but Clay Buchholz and Phil Hughes both struggled mightily in their first 100 or so innings in the AL East, too, and look at where they are now.
  22. Sweeney's a third baseman in name only. It's only a matter of time before the Rays (or someone else) move him to 1B. John Sickels at least seems to be high on his bat.
  23. Wow...it looked like Ryan was really lucky to not break his wrist there. Way to make a national audience think you're good in left field, though.
  24. I'm reading that both starters are expected to go 2 innings, so at the very least Braun should get to face David Price. Seems like there's a possibility that Manuel will follow 2 innings of Jimenez with 2 innings of Josh Johnson. Edit: San Francisco beat writer Andrew Baggarly talked to Bruce Bochy, who's one of the NL coaches. Found out that the NL pitching plan is Ubaldo and Johnson for 2 apiece, then Roy Halladay and match-ups (read: tons of relievers) late. Lincecum probably won't go until extra innings.
  25. I think this topic has run its course, as far as discussing Yovani's comments and baseball are concerned. As mentioned very early on in this topic, everything else is better suited for the Political Scene.
