  1. Adam McCalvy's latest blog post definitely makes it seem like Hall will be traded sometime before the Friday deadline: Melvin "working on something" for Bill Hall. McCalvy specifically mentions the Reds (and Harang or Arroyo as possible returns), but Melvin says he can't say who's been interested. I wouldn't mind having Harang around next year as a middle of the rotation guy. Who knows, maybe he'll bounce back with a change of scenery and pitch like he did a few years ago.
  2. I think from a win-loss record perspective, the Rays have been a bit disappointing. They're 10 games out in the AL East and only 9 games over .500, but they've had a lot of bad luck when it comes to their pitching...they still score runs in bunches. The Indians finished last year strong even without Sabathia, so I do remember some high hopes for that team, but now they've sold off Victor Martinez and Cliff Lee in some iffy deals and look to be headed towards a Top 5 pick in next year's draft. Oakland, too, had some hopes of possibly contending, but Holliday was streaky and their young pitching never held up. Those are just a few I was able to think of aside from the teams already mentioned.
  3. Walking Ryan Braun on four pitches with two outs and a runner on almost never works in the opponent's favor this year, which has been great to see. At this rate, Prince is going to absolutely shatter the club RBI record.
  4. Very nice to have a couple relaxing wins back-to-back, but I wonder how many people in-state have given up on watching this team for the summer and watched the Packers tonight. One thing I did notice around the 6th inning that I wasn't able to get online to comment about -- there was a shot of Escobar sitting next to Felipe Lopez and all I could think of is "man, I hope Lopez's reputation for sloppy defensive work and motivational lapses don't rub off on him." I've been impressed by Esco so far, though...hopefully he keeps it up.
  5. Missed the first inning, but got in just in time for Braun's second homer. Here's to hoping the ending of this game isn't as interesting as yesterday's. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  6. MLBTradeRumors did a "Trade History" for Doug Melvin at the end of last season. Moves in the last three calendar years, from the spreadsheet posted in November 2008: 7/20/2008 Darren Ford and Steve Hammond to Giants for Ray Durham 7/7/2008 Matt LaPorta, Zach Jackson, Rob Bryson, and Michael Brantley to Indians for CC Sabathia 4/22/2008 Gabe Gross to Rays for Josh Butler 12/7/2007 Kevin Roberts and Marino Salas to Pirates for Salomon Torres 11/20/2007 Johnny Estrada to Mets for Guillermo Mota 9/11/2007 Dennis Sarfate to Astros for cash 9/4/2007 Andrew Lefave to Nationals for Ray King 7/28/2007 Grant Balfour to Rays for Seth McClung 7/25/2007 Will Inman, Joe Thatcher and Steve Garrison to Padres for Scott Linebrink 7/1/2007 Jose Capellan to Tigers for Christopher Cody 5/4/2007 J.D. Closser to A's for Charles Thomas 3/27/2007 Ben Hendrickson to Royals for Max St. Pierre 3/26/2007 Brady Clark and cash to Dodgers for Elmer Dessens 11/25/2006 Doug Davis, Dana Eveland, and Dave Krynzel to Diamondbacks for Johnny Estrada, Claudio Vargas, and Greg Aquino 7/28/2006 Wilfrido Laureano to Phillies for David Bell 7/28/2006 Carlos Lee and Nelson Cruz to Rangers for Laynce Nix, Kevin Mench, Francisco Cordero, and Julian Cordero 7/25/2006 Jorge de la Rosa to Royals for Tony Graffanino 5/26/2006 Mike Adams to Mets for Geremi Gonzalez 5/13/2006 Enrique Cruz and cash to Rangers for Brian Shouse 1/6/2006 Brian Wolfe to Blue Jays for Corey Koskie
  7. Wow, Rivera's just killing the ball today. Good to see after his struggles with limited PT so far this year.
  8. One game at a time, right? ;-) Little bit of 2nd inning trouble for Manny here, though. He probably should've been covering first on that bases loaded throw home, though.
  9. Moved this to the Major League forum, since multiple sources have confirmed the Brewers placed the claim.

  15. Prince only needs 27 more RBI to break the Brewers' single-season record. At this rate, he's going to shatter it. Here's to a late-inning comeback to make things really interesting.
  16. Brewers, just one request tonight: please keep me entertained.
  17. Well, without that 6-run inning by the Padres, the Brewers would've only lost 7-6. At this rate I'll be pretty surprised if Looper's option is picked up. Come to think of it, didn't Ken Macha only sign a two year contract? It'll be interesting to see what happens this offseason if the ending gets even uglier. Given the injuries I don't think finishing a couple games under .500 would get him fired, but if they keep losing 2 of 3 the rest of the way, it might be something that starts getting talked about. I'm not one that believes managers make much of a difference, but I'm sure the media will start talking about it soon if they haven't already.
  18. Maybe Kendall can get Lasik again to re-fix his throwing arm. Hopefully Vargas can get out of this jam and keep it close.
  19. For those wondering, the NL record for home runs allowed by a single pitcher in a season is 48 (Jose Lima). MLB record is 50 (Bert Blyleven). Looper has 29 as of this post...if nothing else, it should be interesting to see how close he can get to Lima.
  20. Usually I wouldn't be worried about saying this against the Padres, but Looper is on the mound -- please keep the ball in the park, Brewer pitching. Hopefully Richard won't be so hard to solve, but he's been very good since going over to San Diego.
  21. Would've been nice to get more than one run considering both Lopez and Cam got on to start the game, but Cam did do a good job of keeping the inning alive by breaking up a would-be DP from Fielder. First inning runs are always nice to have.
  22. Here's a link from the St. Pete Times. The Rays will owe the roughly $1 million left on his deal this year. Oakland let him go to allow him to pitch for a contender while also taking a look at some of the young guys they've been wanting to bring up now that they're out of it.
  23. Hard to win when Jason Michaels drives in 4 runs for the other guys. It wasn't a bad start for Villanueva, but my expectations for him in the rotation continue to be lower than the ones I had for Burns. Hopefully Manny and Yo can get the Crew wins in the final two games. And I still strongly dislike Jose Valverde, for what it's worth. At least he didn't prance around too much like an idiot after the save. I always get a kick out of Uecker (and JP when he was still here) poking fun at him.
  24. Hey, Jesus Colome managed to get his ERA under 8 in his first appearance. Good start for him already. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Hopefully there's some 9th inning magic for the offense.
  25. Kendall smash! And right when I was looking up the numbers on just how bad Kendall's been in comparison to other catchers across the league. Maybe I should do that more often. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Edit: Kendall's first home run in almost a full calendar year -- his last was September 5 in Milwaukee against the Reds. It's the third HR of his Brewer career, putting him one behind Yovani Gallardo.
