  1. I think the big league club is waiting for Bennett to hit a cold spell so they can replace him with Salome...he's that good. Seriously though, I don't know. Im happy seeing Opdyke get some at bats in the lower ranks...we'll see Angel at some point this year no doubt, he is really young though and the Crew and it would be tough to justify throwing him on a fast track (passing Vander Burg, Lou, and Kade would be a nice feat) so waiting out his turn at the lowest level is probably the way to go. He'll be a fun one to follow in the future though. *** This is Jorge De La Rosa's game to shine...it's time he puts up some numbers and quality innings or else Indy has no business starting him. I think we finially see some comand out of the young lefty tonight.
  2. I've got a feeling this thread should accumulate quite a few posts by game 1's end...I know that I've got "Brewer Fever" Oliver Perez is good though but he's young...take advantage of that Crew and things hopefully will work out
  3. That was BIG...the offense finially produced to give the starter some big time breathing room but a close finish like that really keeps the team on their toes. There is no time to relax if this team wants to keep suprising all of baseball. 7 games over .500 are you kidding me? No way, its because Danny Kolb is AMAZING and these Brewers just know how to BATTLE BABY!!!! sweet sweep...lets roll into our double header tommorow like it matters (which it does). Two games in one day can really make or break an overall record and the spirit of a team...just think that saturday morning the Milwaukee Brewers can be 9 games over .500.... its like shooting a pair of free throws though...you have to "make the first"
  4. look at the campaign Milwaukee put together for Jenkins last year to make the All Star game...they are starting early this season by getting Kolb some more save opportunities in TIGHT situations...give him this new "clutch" persona...just doing some stat padding thats all...no biggie
  5. when would you suggest getting Brooks back into the fold...the team hasn't been up 6 like this in a while...this was the best opportunity to stretch out his arm in a game situation and it backfired a little. I mean come on, 6 runs surely looked safe...woops, it happens. If this was a 2 run game in the 9th and Brooks was entered into the game, I'd be questioning the call. This was the biggest lead Milwakee has had to get their relievers some work. It's not that bad of a situation
  6. this roughspell right now is good..its keeping the Brewers honest. They are not a great team...the reason they have gotten this far is by fighting hard for 9 INNINGS. I dont know the attitude in the dugout after 7 innings, but the attitude of many fans is that this game is over, 6 run lead...cap it off, we got a sweep. Not so fast... If Milwaukee want's to do anything this year they need to play hard the WHOLE GAME. I know Yost won't let this little hicup go unnoticed and neither will they let the last place Pirates go unnoticed when a lot of people would want to check out the Cubbies coming up. This game needs to be closed out and Pittsburg needs to be delt with...you play them one game at a time and this one isn't over
  7. I always post Page 2 stuff on the game thread because I dont feel its worthy of starting its own...just good noteability Page 2 created their "all budget All Stars under 1 mil" and 2 Brewers made the team...I think if they carried a full pitching staff we might see Davis included link ....oh yeah, sweep
  8. thanks for the runs Mr. Moeller what a nice win...most exciting thing was that Scotty PoPo took TWO walks at Coors Field where his early season mentality would be "swing for the fences"...taking two walks early to me shows that he wants to get on base and do some damage for the offense there rather than with his bat. Very solid start from our 4th guy after three nice pitching performances from 1-2-3 last week
  9. "I felt like all three pitches were working tonight," Hendrickson said. "I worked the fastball in very well. I threw a lot of changeups for strikes." -BH no mention of his money pitch (curveball)...if he is confident with his fastball/changeup...he's going to have great nights like this for many years...throw in his curveball and he can dominate. no need to rush the young guy though...no reason
  10. solid 6 innings from Capuano with 6 K's but 3 walks. He got torn apart in some of his minor league rehab games...his ERA doesn't indicate that he's been gotten the better of too much this season though. He's definatly been a plesant suprise, much like all the Brewers starters (not named Wes :P )
  11. Bergeron knows Kyrnzel is back to take his starting spot at AAA soon....he needs to hit a few more walkoff homers if he wants to maintain a steady number of at bats for the Indians.
  12. I know wins matter but I think if Ben is going to be ours for a long time then we need to instill confidence in him early on when the wins aren't as important as in a season where the playoffs are legit. Sheets is going to have to learn how to get on base at some point if he doesn't want to remain a liabliity at the plate...I know that Milwaukee has been doing really well lately but isn't this still a learning season for a lot of the guys? We are still experimenting with some infield and outfield players as well as bullpen arms...I think Sheets just needs a confidence booster and thats what Yost tried to give him. Im not justifying the call...just dont start a fire yost thread because he's helped this ballclub a WHOLE lot more than hes hurt it
  13. Im going to try and make it out for a few games..maybe the morning "scout workouts". Im definatly a rookie at giving scouting reports but like I tried to give my take on Dodger lefty Scott Elbert, Ill do my best with some of these kids. Im glad you were able to find all 8 rosters and Ill try and keep my eyes out for some of the top guys or anyone else that just intrigues me. Ill definatly try and take a gander at Bowman as a lot of Brewer faithful are crossing their fingers that he signs http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. the USA baseball Tournament of Stars starts tommorow in southwest Missouri and several big names have played for team USA in the past (the best player in the majors A-Rod, 2004 first overall pick Matt Bush, 2003 5th round Brewer Brian Opdyke). is there a list of 2005 prospects anywhere yet that could be of some assistance as for who to watch on the roster? USA White Roster Anthony Bernazard IF Princeton NJ Brian Budrow P/IF Glendale, AZ Jason Codiroli P/OF San Jose, CA David Cooper IF/P Stockton, CA Ike Davis IF/P Scottsdale, AZ Erik Davis P Mountain View, CA Ryan DeLaughter OF/P Corintin, TX Chris Dominguez IF/OF Miami, FL Ralphie Henriquez C Key West, FL C.J. Henry IF/OF Oklahoma City, OK Robert Lara C/P Fort Lauderdale, FL Aaron Luna OF/IF Southlake, TX Buster Posey P/IF Leesburg, GA Kyle Stutes P/IF Lake Oswego, OR Kyle Thebeau P/OF Corupus Christi, TX Jeff Urlaub P Scottsdale, AZ *Austin Yount P/IF Paradise Valley, CA (nephew) there are 7 other teams playing in this and contain several other quality ballplayers from all over the nation. RBI Roster noteworthy players Eric Massingham P Benicia, CA (top 10 prospect) Justin Upton IF Chesapeake, VA (BJ's brother, top 10) Preston Clark C Rockwall, TX (late Indians draft pick) basically im looking at over 150 players on 8 rosters and only one name rings a bell (Upton)...is there at least a top 10 prospect list somewhere for 2005 or 2006 that I could look at to see if any of these kids are worth keeping a special eye on...noone from Wisconsin sorry to say. I guess i could type out every roster but this thread would then be even longer than I needs to be...thanks for your time
  15. I believe Jenkins when he says that this is a totally different team than any he's played with, they expect to win the attitude has definatly changed in the clubhouse and with the guys even though talent wise they are usually inferior to the competition they match up against. They desire to win and are learning how to do so with each game (win/lose/draw). its definatly exciting and a lot of these castaway/rejects are going to be around when talent might actually arive in Milwaukee...which should be another exciting time http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. I think Im happiest with the Chapman signing out of any that could have signed. Being a 6th rounder he had a lot going for him but it wasn't like he was taken in the first three rounds which provides good money. He had a strong commitment ot Auburn from what I read and he was going to be considered a tough sign. Auburn's coach said that he had the most ready bat he's seen from HS going to his program in 15 years (or something like that). Bottom line, he's a fairly advanced outfield bat with good speed for defense...he's definatly a guy that Im excited about and can't wait to see how he fairs this year against some fellow rookie leaguers. I really think this kid has got some potential to be the first prospect out of this draft to reach the bigs.
  17. Brian Opydyke was a 4th rounder (Salome was a 5th) who has a year under his belt in the organization and he is around 40th...I wouldn't think Angel Salome could be higher even though a lot of people here have already fallen in love with him as a player. on a side note: Im very interested to see if Chapman signs and how he performs and Im definatly impressed that the team was able to sign LeClercq so fast after being consideded tough to draw away from his IU Hoosier commitment.
  18. I dont know if I agree with the downplaying of a high school state championship. If you win your team goes down in the annals of your state high school history books forever. Thats something that you can look back on if you never make it up the minor league ladder and talk about with your grandkid who made the baseball team as a freshman 50 years down the road. I know its just a trophy if he wins, but it was his high school and they are his memories. That is his team until he signs with another (U of Miami or Milwaukee) and its his right to give them all he's got.
  19. all I can think of is the Big Unit coming out of the bullpen to spare Schilling and how dominating a power pitcher can be at the end of a game.
  20. so should we blame Podsednik's rescent slump on the woman just like Earl Woods' blames his son's slump on his lady friend?
  21. ok Hardy, you make your point very clear and Im going to agree with you for the purpose of your Gwynn-ego arguement. It could very well be possible that Weeks/Fielder are just going through the motions as they prepare the day they play in Miller Park whereas a guy who doesn't have a major league future locked up (Gwynn) can't scoff at a bad play because that could be his starting position on the line. I know when we drafted Weeks it was said that he was a very hard worker off the field. I vividly remember reading an article saying that he worked out the very night his team finished their last playoff game telling teamates/coaches/family that it was the offseason and time for him to start working for next year. I can't really see the kid as being cocky (not your words) but I dont watch him on a consistant basis either. Prince and Weeks more than likely will get away with a lot more than two guys with lower ceilings and while thats not fair, its the way it goes. We'll see how this handles itself...maybe the manager gives the boys a good chewing next practice and both players come back to have huge performances. It was a good observation and another reason for me to like Gwynn.
  22. Im glad that two questionable defensive players aren't beating themselves up over a few mental errors in the field. Mistakes happen and their ability to laugh it off shows me that they are willing to forget about their mistake and go on with the next play. No sense in dwelling on an error. I disbelieve that an attidude like that would blemish either player as bad character guys. I understand your concern though but things will eventually get better. Thats why the play the game. Even though you throw down 2 star players on your batting order you aren't guarinteed a win. This makes things exciting for the Huntsville fans as they look for a first half championship.
  23. my hypothesis behind Hart playing 1st last night was maybe a team looking for a young first baseman enquired about the Brewers outfielder and whether or not he could still man the position. I dont think this team is in shape to start trading young prospects, but I think it was a smart move to allow Hart a chance at picking some balls with a first basemans mit for a game just to keep him fresh. He should definatly be focusing on outfield, but versatility is important and could get Hart to the big leagues a lot faster (a Lyle Overbay minor injury).
  24. amazing job by the staff and number of fans who dug up imformation after each pick...all the hard work definatly made this draft enjoyable.
  25. I just saw some highlights on baseball tonight and congrats from me goes to two places A) Ben Sheets...my how you've persevered a few average season and we are now seeing you capitalize on some potential. Great season thus far with three memorable games (18 K's, this gem, his 6 IP 10 K's against the Cards earlier this year) B) Brewer fans...11 pages and counting, that's definatly loyalty. I've only been a member here a year but Ive definatly seen game thread activity climb this season. Very exciting seeing this much attention given by some loyal fans.
