  1. hes definatly a project as a high school catcher but his tools definatly screams promise...Im very happy with this pick.
  2. if I had the option I would edit that post...I appologize for my irrationally and I definatly got dupped by the last two posts...all I was trying to say is that on any given day Milwaukee can beat the best. I guess baseball isn't like basketball when a team without one HoFer (Pistons) can beat a team with 4 (Lakers). Im too excited about game 2 tonight and somehow translated that to baseball anyways....I hope Milwaukee wins and Ill try and think before I post in the future...may I have a mulligan?
  3. the Angels are argueable the best team in baseball...how about the Brewers sweet them this week and pound the Astros vaulting them up near the Reds/Redbirds for first place in the division and keeping Houston/Chicago back a few games. This could definatly be a launching pad for a terrific summer if they capitalize at the right time. The Angels have a lot better players than Milwaukee...but the Brewers have a better team. Sweep these AL boys and keep on marching through June
  4. I like these last two "tough sign" picks because the Brewers told everyone they put their profit sharing money in the minor leagues/draft....this is the perfect time to shut everyone up about decreasing payroll by grabbing two talented arms in the middle of the draft at a generous bonus rate. We'll see what happens, but this is definatly a possible way to bolster the organizational depth by grabbing expensive talents late
  5. With Jorge De La Rosa struggling I suggest taking a week or two shortening up his arm and installing him as the Indians closer for a month or so to A) See if he can improve his control by working in short stints B) Regain confidence in his stuff with hopes of one day maybe going back to the starting rotation I am in no way giving up hope on De La Rosa as a starter, I think that he has the arsenal to be very successful, but I also think that he has the closer mentality. I say give the kid a shot to have a successful season by allowing him the opportunity to close ballgames. If its his knack this year he might find himself in a major league bullpen very soon. If he doesn't really fit you just plug him back in as a long reliever to end the season and prepare him to continue his career as a starter in 2005. Indy has a great shot at winning big this year but De La Rosa hasn't exactly helped the team through the starting rotation. Instead of demoting him to AA give him a shot to becoming the "next John Rocker" and tear some AAA hitters apart. He's still young and I realize that the bullpen is always option B when a guy has starter potential...but how many more losses can Jorge take? Im just thinking that this would provide him the opportunity to be successful in 2004 and help Indy at the same time. (I think hes on the DL at this time, but maybe when he comes back)
  6. though I made a silly comment how the draft seemed to tail off in round 11 through 15 I can't identify a player taken in those rounds that I would rather have. I would have to give the draft an A- with the upsides of the first three pitchers taken. Of all the pitchers taken in the first round, none was a clear cut winner as far as talent and in 5 years our guy could either be the best, worst, or middle of the pack. It was definatly a crapshoot this year, luckly the Brewers have a pretty good (or should I say a pretty crappy) shooter in Jack Z. I think Rogers is going to be a fine pick and his arm is just as electric as any other. Yovani Gallardo and Josh Wahpepah are two guys that should be fun to follow and hopefully both will sign for a reasonable price. Angel Salome and Stephen Chapman are two players that I am most excites about however. Salome is a guy that I think could have gone several rounds higher and I definatly think he's got a ton of upside even at 5'7" tall. Baseball America rated him the #2 infield arm behind the number one pick (Bush) and the way he hit the ball in high school is incredible. Chapman is a guy that I hope the Brewers will be able to lure away from Auburn with a little extra money and could definatly be an outfielder who comes in and hits right away. He's an exciting player who I think could be a definate steal in the 6th round. Sollmann and Baker are two guys that I think can be organizational soldiers at least as both seem very advanced players. Solid guys from great schools who definatly got overlooked early in the draft. Lastly Alexandre Periard who is only 16 years old is intriguing as he was rated the #2 Canadian at such a young age and is said to be mature beyond his years. I think the fact that our Candians can pretty much be draft and follow guys without going through that process is exciting and drafting center field and shortstop even though that appears to be a solid organizational strength shows me that the Crew was definatly looked at best player available in each round. Overall I was very pleased with the draft and hope for the best on day 2.
  7. link I found an article looking up our latest canadian pitcher and it really doesn't have anything to do with the guy in general, but it has to do with Canadian baseball including a few quotes from the Brewers (including Doug Melvin). interesting read
  8. thats what Im talking about...ALEXANDRE PERIARD is 16 years old with mound presence beyond his years. He sounds like a baller I can live with unlike some of the previous picks. This kid should be one to watch and would be a neat sign.
  9. for some reason I thought they read of Grant Richardson as a pitcher...as a first baseman I don't see much hope for him but maybe he's got an arm that the Crew will try and develop. Either that or they misread it on the broadcast or I misheard it. Last few rounds have been kind of iffy after a really solid start to the draft and close with the 10th rounder
  10. Brewers are showing their canadian scouts a lot of respect...this guy (Albers) was rated the 19th best canadian prospect by Slam baseball. Their previous pitcher from Canada wasn't rated too highly either. Im hoping for the best from these two but not a lot of information on either.
  11. any big names leftover from the first 10 rounds who could be taken in this range or any guys falling bigtime due to signability whom the Brewers might take interest in? Any local boys projected to go in this range?
  12. I know it takes a lot of upside to climb the ladder to the majors but I can't figure out how guys like Sollmann are so overlooked in drafts. First team All American from some publications with great numbers is definatly a guy I would take a shot at in my organization. I love this pick in the 10th round and hope for the best from Sollmann.
  13. "Stephen has been rated as one of the top 30-40 players in the country by some publications. He is an outstanding player. He is a left-handed hitter who is one of the more polished and advanced hitters we've ever signed." -Auburn recruiting website
  14. I think this might be the Brewers first tough sign as the brewerfan.net profile says that he should honor his commitment to Auburn. This will be a good opportunity to show how Milwaukee uses its profit sharing money from the Yanks and Co. on their draft and minor league system. not another center fielder but he sounds like a guy who could have gone a few rounds earlier.
  15. What lies ahead in June for this young man? Angel Salome - one of the best arms in baseball today and I don't just mean high school - in the sport. He's batting .815 for George Washington HS. -http://www.collegeselect.org/news.htm
  16. im sure everyone has something to say about the MLB.com interview but here are my notes... feelings as of now... I was excited, a feeling of disbelief little expectations heading into the draft, he enjoyed the whole thing and wanted to remain optiomistic reflections on baseball in the northeast... it takes a little extra work, you can't get outside year long. it means if you want to make it you've got to work that much harder you've got to go into the gym when there is 10 inches of snow on the ground. thats what names NE ballplayers that good, self discipline of working on your game when the weather is rough. his pitches.... worked on his circle change over the winter. his best pitch is strike one (joking). his out pitch is his curveball, his fast ball has been consistant and his last 5 games has him going between 93-96. any brewer conversations..... mostly impersonal conversations by Milwaukee. Just congrats. Lot of young players developing who could contend in the next few years. being the highest drafted HS pitcher.... compliment to be highest drafted HS pitcher. He thinks he can do well. Milwaukee put a lot of faith into him and he wants to go out and proove to them that they made the right decision, hes got a lot of work ahead of him and a lot to learn...Milwaukee is where he wants to learn. ====================== analyst on the draft Mark Rogers has decided that Milwaukee has taken their minor league system to one of the least talented to one of the most talented under Jack Z first 5 rounds has shown that they are going in the right direction 2nd rounder can throw 96 and 3rd rounder has similar velocity. Very agressive building their system and adding a lot of high velocity arms this year
  17. http://www.nypost.com/photos/sports051304066a.jpg what a stud
  18. This guy might be my favorite pick so far if he is indeed 5'7" tall like mlb.com says he is. If thats the case (and hes not 5'10" like other sources says) I think the only reason he fell was because his height. Theres no way a guy who reads this good defensively and can hit above average falls to the fifth round. Im ver interested in Salome and hope he's as good as he reads on the scouting sheets.
  19. http://www.news-star.com/images/062002/spo_wahp.jpg this guy has potential in my opinion....if his style gets guys out I have no problem...I dont think we're dealing with Boston pitcher Kim here, but hes definatly not orthadox
  20. regardless, Elbert and DeWitt are two fantastic picks for the Dodgers and are talents that just could not be passed up. Both have a big upsides and are Missouri boys, good luck to both and the Dodgers...they have my favorite draft going thus far.
  21. minor league baseball isn't about stats at all...its about developing your game to see if you have what it takes to make the big leagues. If Jorge De La Rosa is able to benefit from this rough start then it in turn would be a good thing. The worst thing to do right now would be to trouble the youngster or make excuses for him. Just let him pitch and hope for the best...I still have faith in the man.
  22. I was watching a very good game until Mr. Viz came in to serve up back to back jacks It was fun seeing the Brewers on TV only to have it semi-spoiled by our favorite reliever. Still a lot of game left though and with this club I'm sure they'll battle until the 27th out
  23. If Ginter is very hard to stike out...we must be facing some very good pitching...props to the Brewers opponants this year http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif maybe Yost will miss having Ginter as a chit chat buddy in the dugout and get him out of the starting lineup so they can spend more quality innings together on the pine...Yost doesn't dislike Ginter, it has to actually be the exact opposite http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  24. I listened to the first three innings of the H-ville game and things seemed to be going smooth...3 runs in the first and CS throwing very well. I check out the final....they go 9 more innings without scoring a run...ouch.
  25. Im just curious where the lefty from Missouri (Elbert) has gone. I haven't seen his name mentioned in the paper since the time I posted his one run, 17 strikeout performance.
