  1. Jenkins has to be one of the top 10 guys on the blocks (in our eyes on the blocks) this summer Any team going into the playoffs lacking a big outfield bad certainly would covet Jenkins this year. The Yankees aquired David Justice...comparative seasons/hitters at the deadline a few years back. Maybe dealing Jenks to a contedor for a top prospect isnt totally out of question
  2. sweet win by the Crew Got beat all day by Prior...waited, and won It was great to see the Brewers win!!!
  3. after my henous (spelling) post about Geoff Jenkins last night... IM NOT WORTHY What a big belt to pull the Crew ahead my minds slowly changing on our outfielder!!!!
  4. Im going to go ahead and let this be my Susan B Anthony... Mark Prior is GREAT!!!! 16 strikeouts...he looks like he could go 5 more strong innings. I know Milwaukee has been notorious for wiffing, but Prior made it look easy today. He IS the best young arm in baseball and he'll be a joy to watch for many years. I wish him good health, regardless of whether the Cubs are our rivals. Hes a good kid, and a joy to watch.
  5. hows that for confidence in Franklyn... 1.2.3 innings...lasted 2 minutes tops http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Pods had a nice grab in center against Jose K A side note: The Cubs announcers made the comment, (not accurate, but close to quoted)..."its hard to find a young 3rd baseman...Milwaukee has one in Helms" Im not sure if thats just jelousy because they have Hernandez, but thats quite the compliment. I just hope Helms continues to develop as a player.
  6. big blast by Ginter (ok, so it was weak) but it got the Crew back into the game Hopefully that will help Franklyn out with confidence...Id love to see him pull out this W against the young Cub phenom
  7. I don't often get to see Brewer games being stuck in Missouri, but I do have WGN and I just tuned in. Franklyn is holding his own after 3. Franklyn 5 K's 0 ER Prior 6 K's 0 ER
  8. At least the Brewers will get to see what a true #1 pitcher looks like...ooh, he might not even be the top man (Wood)... Comeon Franklin...pull the upset, beat Prior head to head
  9. I dont think the "thrown out" acts accomplish much now a days...but whenever they first started Im sure they were quite effective If it lite a fire under one guy, I guess it did its job. Maybe letting the younger guys know that Yost is a "players" manager to an extent
  10. I wish I would've watched the CWS...I would have loved to pick out my favorite Rice pitcher. Obviously the Brewers will have their choice of whomever they wish to pick next June. It sounds like it was a "funny" game in a way though. At some point giving up homer after homer has gotta draw a half cracked smile. Yost and Perez argueing...can't picture it, but Im sure it was quality (and if it wasn't, it should've been) Quevedo is a confusing prospect/big leaguer. Weight, velocity, mental? Who knows. I never thought hed be a bad end of the roation guy...looks like he is. If Q is sent down (might happen) similar to Rusch...hopefully the trend doesn't continue. The Crew have something decent in Sheets, Kinney, Franklin. They don't need any more demotions. We'd have a two man rotation by August. Checking out the box score it looks as if we only grabbed one "free" base but nine hits. Helmsey...3 for 4. Im jost hoping people are pleased after how bad many thought he was going to be. A .257 average isnt pretty, but its 5th on the team of regular starters...ahead of Sexson I might add. OBP probably balances things out though. If we take anything from this game, Ill lable it as two things (though I didn't watch it) Yost did a good thing argueing. I dont like argueing, it slows the game down and is useless, but in a "giving up" game he sticks up for his players regardless of the score. Really scored some brownie points there, I really like this guy. Ford, 3.3 IP, almost 60 pitches, half for strikes (meh), 4 strikeouts on one hit/earned run, two walks. Id take that as a "start" and just let the pen do the rest. Brooks and Foster (two younger arms) did solid work in going 2+ only allowing one run. Ooh, and Kerry Wood is good. Was a bad game Im sure, but it brings the club down to earth (post sweep in STL but series win in MIN). The club was showing promise and I believe still is. Ford and Yost...nice game guys
  11. Man, Id be one happy little Brewer if they grabbed Rey Rey Ordonez this offseason for a cheaper contract. Just throwing him a...2-3 year deal worth 2 million per year...he would actually be an upgrade on defense over Clayton (and Clayton was tied for 1st in fielding percentage in the NL this weekend) and his bat (while pathetic to say) would be an improvement. Ordonez is a young guy that plays exciting defense. I hate to say it, but this move would be kind of like when the Memphis Grizzlies traded the steady Mike Bibby for the flash in the pan Jason Williams. It was almost a move built for PR because with the team moving to Memphis, they needed a "flashy" point guard like J-Dub to try and luer people into games. I think having a "flashy" Rey Ordonez playing short as a bridge until JJ Hardy is ready would be a wise move. Hardy is supposed to be very solid on defense and his bat has only gotten better. This way, fans will witness a switch in shortstop from three guys with great defense, one who hit .100, one who hit .200, and the final one hitting .300. Make any sense? Im not just saying this because Rey happened to be one of my favorites, I think it might draw some more local interest. Not everyone can do magical things like Ordonez at shortstop.
  12. if the kid hits .360 in the bigs, he can catch, pitch, play 3rd...wherever he wants to be. mmmmmmmmm, .360 (drools) no pressure or anything
  13. that was a good point about the kids work ethic from the little Ive read, it seems the kid really wants to get to the show and succeed for as hard as they say he works Weeks never really took a day off as he continued working in the weight room the same night after his team won a division title or something to that nature. Seasons over, but within a minute, the next season had started for Weeks I think that strong willpower is going to take him further than good batspeed or nice defense
  14. Something just tells me that Gwynn will be pretty special Growing up you learn from a fundamentalist and his strength is his batting eye. If you have that, not much can stop you from being a great hitter in the big leagues. Makes the pitchers throw to you because you can buy off a ball. Forget the lack of power, if this guy just gets on base better than anyone else the Brewers have and plays solid defense, he can sit in the outfield for years if you ask me.
  15. It would be strange but I could see a guy just mentally skipping serious minor league ball and into a starting rotation. Hed be missing out on a lot, but if he just started starting games out of the blue and succeeding, he would never have to contine to work things out because he already made it. It might create a horrible sophomore slump but wouldn't it also be cool if the guy was just mentally ready or didn't even let the whole aspects bother him. Itd be nice to have a solid young pitcher starting every week, I just hope the guy know what they are doing if they throw him to the wolves like that. So far though hes one of the few bright spots in the mound in Milwaukee. Id actually be for starting him NOW and always (unless a situation arises Ankiel style) or sending him and starting him over again.
  16. sadly, but probably a necessity even though it sounds like the Crew was getting whalloped, you still want to throw some quality innings in there. What a good pickup though...starting over in Arizona so he can build himself and his name through the minors...maybe he can be a late addition to the staff once all the youngeons take over Sure would sound nice to have another wave in the minors after these kids. Maybe Ford/Cruz (Foster?) can start over with the rookies the team drafted this year.
  17. on a crazy sidenote one of Rices pitchers did something I nor the man annoncing the game has ever seen He beaned 3 consecutive batters It was embarassing, funny, painful to watch, but all in all kind of jaw droping (but not really that aweing) It was just something you dont see every day, it was on a Sportcenter segment, for anyone who cares.
  18. Relaxed player, always smiles That was in his MLB.com bio. Does that remind you of any other Latin American outfielder with speed/pop. To me it sounds a bit like Vladimir Guerrero. Now Im not saying his game is anywhere near Vlads (though he seems to have the speed and developing power), the ATTITUDE is a big plus for a clubhouse in my opinion. To me it sounds like the guy won't get phased by pressure or slumps, its good to have a guy that seems to be enjoying himself and I continue to hope attitudes like this rub off on the rest of the Brewers at all the levels. Its little things like this that make a BIG difference.
  19. I guess Gwynn could be valueable trade bait, but he could be an even more valueable presence on the Brewers team in the future. Whether he plays center field or in one of the two corner spots, Gwynn has the chance to be a top of the lineup hitter (maybe leadoff?). Though Ive never seen him play, he sort of reminds me of Ichiro. A defensive outfielder without much pop, but good plate discipline, can hit for average, take walks, and be a speedster on the basepaths. While he may not have as many "swings" as Ichiro, his eye has been labled as a key to his success. Gwynn isn't the protopyical corner OF who hits 30+ jacks a year, but may be a great one none the less. It will indeed be interesting to see how he develops, he may be an All Star (maybe better than his dad, it really could happen) or he may not even make it to the majors.
