  1. Alright, so Capuano just gave upa three run shot, guess what, it was to Albert Pujols, maybe the best hitter in the game Im looking at the 5th inning half full CC got behind and had runners on 2nd and 3rd (on an error by Hall) with one out. He went right at Jim Edmonds and struck him out. Pujols was up and CC got ahead 0-2, maybe 1-2. Either way he had first base open and could have definatly wasted a few pitches. He chose not to, went right at him with a fast ball and just hung it high. Pujols, being the great hitter he is, capitolized on the play. Scott Rolen, a very solid hitter, is up next and CC wastes no time going straight at him. Three strikes, hes out. Hes a rookie, but if hes as confident as he was that inning for the whole season, he should put up solid numbers *************** Spivey just went yard to make it an 8-4 game again http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. sitting Bennett after three hits would be dumb....oh wait http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. you say the game wont be on Fox Sports North....will it be on Fox Sports Midwest I dont expect anyone to know that, but where do you find out if games will be televised. I get Cards and Stros games so plug that in with the Cubs and Im hoping to see a lot of Brewerball this year. anyone with a link to game/TV listings?
  4. I know that baseball is different from basketball, but let me throw this example out there. In 2001 the Memphis Grizzlies drafted Shane Battier with the 6th pick. nbadraft.net rated Battier a 10/10 on "readyness" and only a 7 on "potential." Battier was a 4 year senior and mature beyond his years but doesn't have half the athleticism of your slam dunk champions. The year prior the Atlanta Hawks took Dermarr Johnson with the 6th pick. Johnson was a freshman from Cincinatti who wasn't ready for the league but was taken high because he had a 10/10 on potential but only a 6/10 on readyness. Its almost as if you need to take some of both like the previous post hinted at 50/50. Mateen Cleeves won the championship at Michigan State and was taken 14th overaall. Four years earlier a classic example of potential was taken with the 17th pick by the Trailblazers. Jermaine O'Neal was taken on "tools" and didn't develop until his 5th or 6th year in the league. You need to take some chances on players with high upsides or you'll never have "superstars". However, taking too many high risk/reward type players will end up hurting you. The luck will run out and you'll have a bunch of arms in your organization and a severe lack of pitchers.
  5. what a big win. way to close it out bullpen though it was kind of scary near the end http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  6. Im pretty sure Ford was spared last year for mop up innings we get to see Bennett in the second game in a semi-pressure situation http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. 5 dingers on the year Grive (FA aquisition) Podsednik Counsell (Sexson trade) Overbay (Sexson) Moller (Sexson nice offseason thus far by Melvin and Co http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  8. I agree with the last name vibe for Sowers, but I have a feeling hes more of a Kenny Peterson for the Green Bay Packers. Kenny was a guy that had nothing amazing about his game but did everything well. He wasn't a power or speed guy, he was a little of both. His real attribute was his technique and consistancy. Thats what Sowers sounds like to me. A guy thats consistantly good. He also doesn't sound like an injury waiting to happen.
  9. Scott Elbert from Seneca, Missouri made his debut yesterday and pitched a great game. 9 IP, 17 Ks, 2 H, 1 BB on 103 pitches against a solid small conference team. Im excited about Elbert because he lives in a neighboring town and it will be interesting to see what happens to him. Hes one of BA's top 20 HS prospects as a lefty with one of the best sliders in the country. His fastball topped out at 94 miles per hour and he was still throwing in the 90s in the seventh inning. ?Last year I threw more of a curveball, but over the summer, I was taught a little movement on my fastball and it?s a slider now,? Elbert said. ?I can throw it for a strike almost any time I want. ?I mix it up (with the curveball) sometimes. The curveball is more of a 12-6, the slider is more flat and slides across the plate. I start it down the middle and it breaks to (a right-hander?s) back leg.? Said Seneca coach Mike Yust, ?He got stronger as the game went on. It takes him sometimes an inning or two to really get loose.? link
  10. Erickson stories I am stoked if this signing does come about. He sounds like a really good guy and a big fan of Wisconsin indeed. I dont want to get too off topic (Winter Ball)...but the name appeared and I remember reading a "tip off" that he was going to sign with Milwaukee from a sperate board. link to board
  11. Coste really sounds like a good character guy, his bio was worth the read
  12. great statement about starting pitching, its all to true so theres free agency (scratch that), minor leagues (not quite), trades (eer), maybe we could try kidnapping starters for a few weeks next season
  13. Mike Mussina on the O's posted average win/loss records yet had amazing ERA/WHIP/strikeouts now hes on the Yankees, and Im almost sure he doesn't have a problem winning anymore
  14. I was really hoping to get to see Martinez pitch tonight, I got the Astros game last night on Fox Sports (in the South) but I don't think its a go for tonight ooh well
  15. very exciting news, hopefully the kids not feeling too much pressure either way (success/flop), I wouldn't expect a deep game for him, most likely will be on a pitch count (and I have no reference to back that up, just common knowledge, right?) good luck to the young lefty
  16. I love the Crew being in the NLC and the midwest because even though I dont live near Wisconin anymore I get Cubs games on WGN, Stros and Cards games on FoxSports Midwest it works out another comment, Podsednik the announcers said if he was in a bigger market or if the Brewers were in contention that Pods would be getting a lot more attention leads all rookies in hits and steals from what I know I was also wonderhing how he got to be the rookie steal leader for 03 so I checked out the splits April 45 AB 1 steal May 79 AB 7 steals June 102 AB 8 steals July 117 AB 6 steals August 103 AB 12 steals it seems as if Yost has given him more of a green light on the basepaths this month and hes taken advantage. I know the Crew campaigned Jenkins for the All Star game. Maybe (and I dont blame them for doing it) they are trying to pad Pods stats to give him a legit shot rookie of the year isn't a career making title, but that would warrent his name both regionally and nationally which helps with revenue and marketing the Cubs announcers just said Pods has the best shot in the NL at ROY, the way he handles left handers, the way he gets on base, the way he steals base (I like the way he gives it his all day in and day out)
  17. Im not looking for a restatement/answer for post, im just defending Vander Wal for the money, Vander Wal has been a great Milwaukee Brewer. His offense has been argueably the best in a few years and hes making next to nothing (unlike Geoff/Sexson) and while his stats arent in their neighborhood, it apparently will kill the front office to open up the checkbook to get anyone more expensive Vandy for a mil is better than Hammonds for 7....I'd go as far to say as Vandy for a mill is better than Jenkins for 8...bang for the buck, small market, JVW has been a great aquisition for the Crew, maybe this season could turn something back to the Brewers as far as a late season trade goes or a resigning/trade next year
  18. thats just too awsome Brewers, 10 wins in a row reminds me of this past NBA season when I was following Shane Battier and the Memphis Grizzlies close, they were out of it but towards the end of the season won 8 in a row or something like that. Good times, everyone was positive (except during gametime then everyone was tense and forgot that deep down its a last place team) however, reasons to be optiomistic, good week or two to be a brewers fan

  20. I dont read a lot of Yost quotes, and i was almost sure this one was made up... MAN, I finially understand "battle" its great though, he knows that without overall talent, the only way the Crew can win is to have more "heart" and fight for the victory...either that or get lucky by the way, it seems as if OB1 could have gotten tagged a little harder, its better than what Rusch/Q were doing in the 1st half of the season. I wonder what the stats would look like if we merged Podsednik's 1st half and Ginters 2nd half
  21. Martinez Hendrickson Para three top pitchers all going to the mound tonight http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Luis Martinez...amazing hopefully he'll build up confidence throughout the duration of the AAA season so hes pitching on the ground next year. I would hate to see him get roughed up late in '03 and lose it all.
  23. where can I find an internet broadcast of the game? thanks
  24. dang, any chance of this game (Beloit at Miller Park) making the Sporcenter highlights instead of the Brewers that night (if they even play) the best 2nd base prospect in baseball top 5 1st base prospect, and a big time power hitter son of one of the best hitters and an ESPN employee future pitching prospect with "ace" material as a DFA I hope you who have the opportunity to attend do...sounds as if it would be exciting to see the kids play in the real ballpark
  25. 3 great starts don't justify a promotion to the big leagues Let him continue to develop the rest of the season, maybe he can grow further in Indy. Theres plenty of time left on his clock, Im just glad the Crew has a successful arm very close to the majors
