I don't know, it was kind of a fluke thing. I don't think the chances of him getting hurt were that much greater than anyone else. The chance might've been a littler higher since he never hits but it's not like he's made of glass or something. As I watched Francisco step to the plate Friday, I imagined lots of angry typing back in this corner of the internets, but returned home to a relatively calm IGT. I know I was thinking back to that (in hindsight ill-advised) Todd Coffey at-bat against the Mets last year, and consequently less surprised when K-Rod left the game the next inning. That said, I agree with the "fluke" assessment. The chances that he'd merely K himself were much better than the chance he'd have to run faster and harder than he has probably had to do in ages. I agree that the "injury" is a fluke. But just like Greinke pinch-hitting on Saturday, it's not a risk that I'd take. If Zack Greinke broke a finger trying to bunt, I'd be incensed with RR.
I think it's really interesting how so many fans vividly remember that loss -- even though after it ended, the Brewers led by 6.5 games and won 13-4 the next afternoon. I still remember where I was -- and how crappy I felt the rest of that day. If anything, it was the first pennant race gut punch loss for Brewers fans in a long, long time.
The 4-6-3-2 triple play is extremely rare. Tonight's was the first since the Expos turned one at Jarry Park in Montreal on June 13, 1972. http://twitter.com/jayson...tatus/103263492320137216
Similarly, it occurred to me that the Sunday 9/11 game could theoretically be picked up by ESPN (depending on what NYY, BOS and STL are doing that weekend). We could do it, though it wouldn't be handy because I can't really take much Monday time off so early in the school year. ESPN has already (inexplicably, imo) picked up Cubs @ Mets that night.
I'd be really surprised if the Saturday, 9/10 game isn't switched to 3:10 pm. On another note, I just waited in line for an hour at the ticket window. Great to see, but if you're planning on buying tickets at MP, be prepared to stand in line for quite a while.
The Hawk 'n Dove (a Packer bar) and Good Stuff (great quick service burger joint) are two of my Capitol Hill favorites. If you aren't able to catch a Nats game in DC, you're not missing much.
Kudos to the reporter from WTMJ. Not only did he instigate La Russa, but he made him look pretty stupid in defending Motte's beanball. I can't believe I've been so blinded all of these years. The Cardinals are way more insufferable than the Cubs -- it's one thing to be loud, obnoxious and arrogant. It's another to be so sanctimonious and hypocritical, like the Cardinals have been for years. I will be very upset if they win the division this season.
Plummet? They got swept on the road by the best team in baseball. A little early to say "plummet" IMO. STL (1-2) @ HOU (2-1) @ STL (1-2) PIT (3-0) LAD (3-1) @ NYM (1-2) @ PIT (1-3) CHC (2-1) STL (1-1) 15-13
I think he made the tag, but the end of this video shows that the call wasn't as blatant as most think. Meals still should have erred on the safe side and called Lugo out: http://atlanta.braves.mlb...lb_1&mode=recap&c_id=atl However, this play is a brilliant example of why we need expanded replay.
