  1. If the Bucks are in playoff contention, I suspect FS Wisconsin will pick up the Bucks telecast on Fri., 4/9, sending the Brewers to WMLW. Same goes with any potential Bucks playoff games. SoCal, these are the national games: Sat 4/10: Cardinals, 2:10 pm, FOX Sun 4/11: Cardinals, 7:05 pm, ESPN Sun 4/25: Cubs, 1:10 pm, TBS (non-exclusive) Sat 5/15: Phillies, 3:10 pm, FOX Sun 5/16: Phillies, 7:05 pm, ESPN Sat 6/5: @ Cardinals, 3:10 pm, FOX Sat 7/3: @ Cardinals, 3:10 pm, FOX
  2. I didn't catch the Marquette game as closely, but it just looked like they weren't moving the ball like they normally do. Their season 3-pt % was almost 43% before this game -- and they went 5/19 last night. Pitt also destroyed MU inside. Missed layups and the refs allowing very physical inside play didn't help the matter, either.

  4. It's has just gotten so stupid and out of hand when 75 percent of the league can't really compete in reality. The overwhelming majority of the fans are just not having fun with this. I think your comment would be more accurate if you were talking about the NBA. And that's a league with a salary cap. For me, it's not much fun when I know in January that the Cavs and Lakers will be in the Finals. In MLB, everybody has a chance to compete -- the "poorer" teams just have a much smaller margin of error. I think your comment is most accurate when it applies to the Blue Jays, Orioles and Rays. It must have been beyond frustrating for Toronto fans to win 86 games in that division and not sniff the playoffs.
  5. If Syracuse beats Georgetown on Thursday night, Marquette will be playing for 4th place just a couple hours later.
  6. I haven't seen a bracket projection that has Wisconsin playing at the Bradley Center -- most of them have UW at a 3/4 seed playing in either New Orleans or Spokane. Back in 2004, IIRC, the committee downgraded Wisconsin a couple of seeds in exchange for "home" games at the Bradley Center. In the end, it didn't work out. They haven't exactly done the same to Villanova or UNC/Duke/Wake Forest in the past, so we'll see what they do with the Badgers. If Marquette (Butler and DJO, I'm looking at you) could make their free throws, they could be 8-2 in conference right now and a tournament lock. The Providence and Cincinnati road games scare me and I believe they'll lose at least one. Even if they're relegated to the NIT, they deserve a lot of credit. I'm just happy they're making things interesting at this point.
  7. So was Louisville. But, I think that's just a technicality.
  8. South Florida won at Georgetown tonight -- probably their biggest win in school history. Their game in Milwaukee next weekend suddenly looks like it'll be competitive.
  9. If DePaul had been able to hold on against Syracuse today, that debacle would have been somewhat mitigated in terms of RPI. Only 3 turnovers today. They played really well and they finally earned a well-deserved W.
  10. I don't the Blackhawks would sacrifice a home game to play in Milwaukee. They're extremely popular in Chicago, and they sellout every game. Maybe the Admirals could play, but I don't believe enough tickets could be sold to justify the work of installing a rink, paying employees, etc.
  11. We're also on Fox a bunch... Apr 10: vs. STL May 15: vs. PHI May 22: @ MIN June 5: @ STL June 26: SEA July 3: @ STL And I'm sure we'll be "flexed" in a few more times. For a team that was lucky to finish 80-82, I'm very surprised about our national TV schedule -- especially the Sunday Night home games.
  12. The Bradley Center I think would be big enough, unless maybe by luck you got Wisconsin or Marquette in that regional. Marquette hosts Tournament events at the Bradley Center, so they wouldn't be allowed to play any tournament games there. They host first and second round games in March, and I think that'll be it until there's a new arena in Milwaukee. The NCAA Tournament has been/will only held in traditional arenas or NFL stadiums -- Ford Field, Lucas Oil, Reliant Stadium, Alamodome, Superdome, etc. I haven't heard any efforts to pursue the Tournament for similar baseball-only facilities in Seattle, Phoenix, or Houston. IMO, the field looks terrible enough in April. If anything -- and I'm skeptical about the logistics -- I'd be interested in a 4-8 team early-season basketball tournament, provided the temperature would be comfortable. But, I doubt anybody would want to travel to Milwaukee in November. Hence why the tournaments are played in Orlando, San Juan, Honolulu, etc. Invader's idea of a hockey game seems most possible. I'm sure everybody would be excited about a Badger hockey game at MP. They've played at Lambeau and will play at Camp Randall on Feb. 6. Why not at Miller Park?
  13. The Magic have been towards the bottom of the league in attendance since Shaq left. I agree that Orlando would be a terrible baseball town, but the Magic sell out every game. Watching that video, the "reporter" looks pretty young. I'll venture to guess that he didn't do his homework. I also like their clip of the Twins, who will open Target Field in April. I'm sending that guy an email, too. He deserves to be criticized for his poor research and misguided speculation.
  14. The schedule looks favorable for Marquette. They finish with two home games against Louisville and Notre Dame and the only certain remaining loss will be Saturday at Syracuse. IMO, the two huge "swing" games for Marquette will be @ Connecticut and home against Pitt -- I think they'll need at least one of those. If not for the free throw gaffes against Villanova, West Virginia and Florida State and the puzzling loss to NC State, I'd be downright giddy about Marquette.
  15. What's the point of trying to compete for an eight-seed that they'll more than likely miss out on anyways? Cleveland, Boston, Orlando, Atlanta, Miami and Charlotte are better than the Bucks. Toronto and Chicago are currently ahead of us and we're currently tied with the Knicks. And, if somehow, someway we clinch the eight-seed, what's the fun in seeing the Bucks get shredded by the Celtics in four games in front of less-than-capacity crowds only to finish with a marginal draft pick? The current trend of playing for the 7/8 seed, only to succumb to injury and general sucktitude is excruciating to watch, not to mention actively destroying this franchise. It's always been too few, not enough (wins) with the Bucks.
  16. IIRC, NBC "forced" Leno to a five-year timetable because Conan was receiving offers from other networks, and they didn't want to lose him. And now, look at what's happened.
  17. Conan was getting about half the viewers that Leno did, long before all the press of late. NBC's choice was obvious, once they gave into the affiliates and ended the Leno at 9 experiment. Leno only started beating Letterman in the ratings after the Hugh Grant appearance. And, that was a couple of years into Leno's run. As mentioned before, Leno's dismal ratings certainly have an affect on Conan. Nobody's watching Leno's show, so fewer viewers are sticking around for the local news, and then for Conan. Before Leno's show began, Conan's show aired during the summer months when he was first getting his bearings and fewer people are watching TV anyways. Conan's show began June 1 -- this decision was made only seven months later. He was not given a chance. I don't think NBC's choice was "obvious" -- we can't be sure if viewers will return to Leno or if a portion will refuse to watch his show based on what's happened. Plus, ratings aside, Jeff Zucker and his braintrust have stained the reputation of one of TV's most famous series -- and now, they have no protege when Leno decides he wants to retire. For now, I'm enjoying watching NBC circle the toilet. Leno at 10 was one of the dumbest ideas in television history, and I suspect that decision will continue to haunt them.
  18. Why Leno is reviled by fellow comedians.
  19. Actually, only 24 FOX affiliates have a newscast at 11et/10ct. But virtually all of the markets are significantly large (not New York, LA or Chicago, though). I definitely subscribe the the "lead-in" argument. FOX scheduled the season debut of 24 for Sunday night, thinking they'd have the NFL playoffs as a lead-in at 4:30 et. But, the rotation was flipped this year, and I'm sure that will be reflected in the ratings. And, interestingly, 60 Minutes is always scheduled for 7/6c on Sundays. Always -- even when CBS has an NFL game at 4:15/3:15 pm or when the NCAA Tournament or US Open runs into primetime, so they'll run the risk of pushing back primetime programming an hour just to keep their primarily older viewers hooked. On the individual level, we have our remotes and DVRs. But in the larger scale, lead-ins are lucrative.
  20. I'm not sure if Fox would want Conan at 11 pm ET. Many affiliates run syndicated/local programming in the 10 pm hour, waiting until 11 to air their local news. I think Fox scores big and acquires Conan, slotting him at 1135 ET. This might be the beginning of the end for NBC, if the ball hasn't started to roll yet. I think NBC will experiment with some pilots in Leno's timeslot, before ultimately giving 10 pm ET back to the affiliates. In 15 years or so, I wouldn't be surprised if NBC will be the equivalent of MyNetworkTV or CW.
  21. Yet, again the officials working their magic. Just 8:00 minutes remaining in the first half, and Bogut has been whistled for 2 tickey-tack fouls and 1 legit foul. The game is on ESPN, so there's no way Stern wants the Bucks to win. Warrick and Elson are on the court at the same time. This can't end well.
  22. Definitely agreed -- that's been a point of contention I've had with Stern for years. I see that both New Jersey, Indiana, Minnesota, and Atlanta (which is 18-6) drew 13k or fewer fans last night. That's definitely a sign of a problem. My biggest problem with his business plan is that basically encourages/allows teams to move from city to city. The NBA didn't work in Charlotte, so they moved the Hornets to New Orleans, where the jury is still out. Then, just a year or two later, they award an expansion franchise to Charlotte. Same with Vancouver -- does anybody really think the NBA is thriving in Memphis? I have a gripe with Stern because when he's asked what he's most excited about during the upcoming season, he'll talk about Kobe, D-Wade, Melo and LeBron. It disenfranchises the majority of organizations and it appears like he's unabashedly cheering for those guys. Like I said before, when I hear people whining about Bud Selig, I roll my eyes.
  23. You're right, but I think Artest stepped into the lane first and it's rarely called, especially in that situation. Keep going to Bucks games. I love the team, but I hate the cronies that run the league.
  24. I had good seats at center-court for this game, so I watched every second. Not a doubt in my mind that this game was rigged. The TWO lane violations on Gasol's free-throws, the unconscionable sequence in the final minute, missing the kicked ball violation, among others. There's not a doubt in my mind that Donaghy is telling the truth. Let's face it, nothing is going to change until Stern goes away. He's responsible for everything (this is why I laugh when people complain about Bud. At least his umpires aren't fixing games!). I don't even care about the Laker fans. Unlike the Cubs fans, these people aren't real fans, just a bunch of frontrunning toolsheds. They'll never know the true joy of winning a championship. Again, I'll blame this on Stern. He created this star-culture and these types of fans inevitably ensued.
  25. Looking at some of Marquette's forums on scout.com, it seems like they really hate UW. I don't understand that. Honestly, my bitterness comes from the arrogance/ignorance you see on some of the UW boards. Seemingly, a constant theme is the academic qualifications required for both of the schools -- I don't see where the fire is. Like you, monkeyman, I was accepted to both schools, but I chose Marquette. I root for the Badger basketball team and I'm indifferent towards the football team, but I won't lie, my resentment is growing.
