  1. I really hope Narveson's recent success hasn't been a fluke. He's been doing some serious work lately.
  2. Maybe the Cleveland market is maxed out right now? They sell out 41 Cavaliers games (plus playoffs) and eight Browns games every year. Yes, they've fallen off of the map attendance-wise, but that market does pour a great deal of its sports-related resources into LeBron James and the Cavs. The Indians won 96 games in 2007 and they still only drew 28k per game -- I think the Cavs had something to do with that.
  3. I absolutely understand why that game was a sellout. That game very well could have and should have been crucial. Personally, I walked in and out 4 times for the Weeks bobblehead.
  4. The Weeks bobble was not only against the Packers, but the Packers were 3-0 and that's the day that Favre broke the TD record. Here's what I could find. I'm pretty sure this is accurate. 5/7/05: 39,589 (Sheets) 7/16/05: 45,079 (Thomas?) 8/13/05: 41,282 (Overbay) 8/27/05: 42,464 (Uecker nesting dolls?) 9/3/05: 32,022 (Lee)
  5. The MLB.com preview for today's game includes Macha/Melvin's take on Gamel: I'm not getting this. It's September. We've been eliminated. There's no better time to give the kids some PT. And, I think starting Corey Patterson and Craig Counsell is much more "stupid" than starting Gamel and Escobar.
  6. It looks very likely that both Philadelphia and Colorado will clinch playoff berths while they play us.
  7. It's his major league debut and he hasn't pitched in 11 days. Remember what happened to Gallardo when he didn't pitch for like 10 days? Yep, what wibadgers23 said. And I wrote that when the bases were loaded w/ no outs. I figured Macha wouldn't like what he saw and would choose the "veteran" over Butler to take Gallardo's starts.
  8. Right or wrong, I think we can quell any hopes of Butler getting a start in 2009.
  9. 7 more in a row for free hamburgers Oh well, maybe next season.
  10. They do not come close to selling out Sunday games in April or May with no promotion. Not so sure about that. The past two years, they've sold out all of their April and May Sunday games. In 2007, yes, they had some ~32k Sunday crowds during those months, but that was before the team became the draw they currently are.
  11. I disagree. I don't believe people care about the bobbleheads as much as you think. IMO, it was the Packers and the fact that the Brewers are playing for pride. They sell out Sunday games April-August, bobblehead or no bobblehead. I doubt that thousands of people chose not to attend the game because of who the bobblehead was. People like free stuff. Heck, I consider the Jason Kendall bobblehead much more offensive/unattractive than the Melvin bobblehead.
  12. I would argue that bobblehead days don't even affect attendance nowadays. As long as the team is competitive, the weekend games are going to be sold out. I agree that the bobblehead concept has become stale, and they should become more creative with the all-fan giveaways. I don't know how much bobbleheads cost to produce, but I'd like to see a ball-day (yeah, fat chance after Opening Day 1997), a mini-bat day, and maybe something different like a Brewers frisbee. If the Brewers were in first place, yesterday's game would be sold-out, no doubt. If yesterday was a Green package game or if the Packers played at night, I think there'd be a few thousand more people there. The Melvin bobble was actually kind of a cool idea, IMO, and I would have gone if there was no Packer game yesterday. However, I think it comes down to: 1) The Brewers are out of the race; 2) Yesterday was a Gold Package Packer game.
  13. It felt good to know I was watching the right game. As somebody who got rid of his tickets for this game to go to the Packer game, I concur. .500...let's do this, Brewers!
  14. Tickets for the Cubs series can be had for as cheap as 50 cents each. I think I'll have to pounce on that offer. It's also a great place to pick up dirt-cheap Bucks tickets once the season starts. I have only used Stub Hub as a seller and not a buyer. It wouldn't make a $1 ticket $30, but would make it at least $11 depending on what delivery option you selected. I use StubHub to occasionally buy Packers and Blackhawks tickets. I also used them to buy tickets for the Red Sox series last season. It's easier and safer than using Craigslist, and it gives you a great indication of what the market value of a ticket is for pretty much any event. They're the only secondary market broker I would ever use.
  15. I was in class, checked my phone for the score, and I about fainted when I saw Jody Gerut hit a grand slam. Watching this game, I can't help but to think of what happened 364 days ago at Wrigley -- a day that looks a lot like today. That was the bane of my Brewers existence.
  16. Ken, this is why you don't use the W-L stat to judge a pitcher's performance. You guys are right. I'm excited to watch him for a full season.
  17. "We're six games under .500 and he's six over," said Macha. "As manager, absolutely I want him back. Then what about Gallardo? He's only a .500 pitcher? His W-L record fails to explain his staggering HR totals (yay for giving up a towering HR to Mark Buehrle), his fat ERA, and it's a product of some really nice run support. I couldn't find a ranking of run support by pitcher (or didn't look hard enough -- it's late and I should be doing other things), but we've been eyeballing it. I hope this is just manager-speak, but that quote makes me want to break stuff. 107 pitches after already skipping a start is now "riding into the ground"? Give me a break. Wouldn't you rather play it safe than see Yo potentially face arm/elbow/shoulder problems next season? Simply put, the Brewers need to be very careful with Yo.
  18. I think the Corey Patterson sighting negates any positivity from the Gamel sighting. This is especially true at Wrigley Field.
  19. Well, this is embarassing. Just play the kids. It's so obvious that the BP arms are wearing down.
  20. The Bradley Center box office doesn't charge any fees when you purchase tickets in person. Some facilities, The Rave for example, will charge you those stupid facility fees when you purchase them in person. Stubhub doesn't charge any exorbitant fees, besides the commission, which I understand completely, but Ticketmaster makes a killing nickel and diming customers.
  21. -Looks like we're playing in the Wrigley Field home opener on Monday, April 12. -There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the interleague schedule. In 2004, we hosted Seattle and played in Anaheim. Same thing this year. I would have loved to see the Brewers play in Seattle. -Two series in Colorado, too. Yeah, trwi7, we've never visited Seattle or the Yankees in interleague play. After the Rangers visit, the only AL teams to not visit Miller Park will have been Tampa Bay and Oakland. We last played in Oakland in 2002.
  22. That's the CBS's affiliate fault. The picture sucks on the alternate channel, but the tennis match is really good so I'm sticking with that.
  23. Game's on Time Warner ch. 19 until the end of the US Open on WMLW.
  24. Thanks, tickets are redeemed.
  25. Hey everybody, I'll be attending the Packer game on Sunday afternoon, so I'll be unable to attend the Melvin bobblehead day. Free pair of tickets: Section 423, Row 9, Seats 2/3. Pretty good seats -- just to the right of home plate. I just have one request: attend the game, please don't walk in and out just to get the bobbles. I'll mail them out ASAP to the first person to respond to the post. Thanks!
