  1. The wild card race is over in my opinion. We have 4 games in Philadelphia. This thing is far from over.
  2. Ugh, why keep Shouse in!? Ned has removed Riske and Shouse a hitter too late. Riske gave up the 2B to Pujols and then fell behind on Ludwick before he doubled. Clearly, Riske didn't have it. Did Ned think magically Riske would shut down the next three hitters he faced? Again, this is Ned "hoping" for the good result, rather than being proactive.
  3. The Pirates are really bad. They're not the same team w/o Nady and Bay (and they still were pretty bad with them). They'll probably play a bunch of their September callups. And, not like it matters, but the Brewers have simply destroyed Pittsburgh this year. I don't see any reason for that to change (at least before the weekend). And, I have no idea what to expect in either Cubs series. It's a toss-up, if you ask me.
  4. I think it's a lot to ask for them to win 95 games. They'd have to sweep the crappy teams they play (SD, PIT, CIN) because the Philadelphia and Chicago series are going to be tough. Here's what I'll say for the rest of the year: @STL: 0 wins @PIT: 2 wins NYM: 2 wins SD: 3 wins CIN: 3 wins @PHI: 2 wins (frightening series) @CHC: 1 win @CIN: 2 wins PIT: 3 wins CHC: 2 wins (Cubs resting players) My optimistic guess says 20-10, which speaks volumes about the crappiness of some of the teams they play. That would put them at 97 wins (97-65). If they continue to play well, I'd predict 94-68 or 93-69. As you said, the postseason will determine this team's place in history.

  6. And, it's not like it's hard to park for free. I park in West Milwaukee or on Wisconsin Ave. all the time. Heck, I don't have a lot of money, but I can afford to go to a million games because I park on the street, carry-in my own food and drink, and I am always searching for ticket deals. That dude was actually blaming Mark A for the high prices. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm grateful that he bought the Brewers. He invested a ton of $$$ into this organization and helped to reinvent baseball in Milwaukee -- can we not criticize him because Nachos are $4?
  7. 1) In the Racine Journal-Times Letter to the Editor section, there was a fan who "complained" of the prices at Miller Park by saying something along the lines of "15 dollars to park, 10 dollars for a Bloody Mary.... Mr. Attanasio you claim that you will be losing money this season, can I have the number of your accountant to do my taxes?" I don't like when people complain about prices at Miller Park -- especially like this guy who acts like it's Mark A's fault. It's like the guy only thinks Miller Park has high food/drink/parking prices. Everybody pays $10 for a Bloody Mary and $15+ for parking when they attend a sporting event, a theme park, etc. It's a principle of economics.
  8. This will be a huge test to see what he's really made of, and I hope he proves my opinions of him to be wrong. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think this is a big game. If they lose, it's no big deal. Heck, getting swept here would be only a minor blow. At this point, they need to tread water. They have 16 games remaining against Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and San Diego -- they'll get fat off of those teams, so I'm really not concerned about this series. I just don't want to hear John Kruk and Steve Phillips chirping about the Cardinals if they sweep. By the way, we have to pay close attention to the Mets and Phillies. They're just as important to our chances as are the Cardinals.
  9. We have a 5 game winning streak in St. Louis. This season has become much brighter since they stopped sucking on the road. Let's at least get a split here. By the way, if anyone else caught it, John Kruk thinks this series is a 3-gamer. Yay ESPN research!
  10. I'm interested in a free or pay league -- let me know the information. Hope more will get involved. Thanks!
  11. Amazing work by Mota. He hasn't been terrible since early-July.
  12. There is an article in the JS explaining the need to sign Gabe Kapler to a long-term deal. Hey, Ryan Braun got one, so Gabe deserves a piece of the pie, too!
  13. Players that sprint to first when they walk bug me. So add David Eckstein and So Taguchi to my list. Alfonso Soriano: he obviously thinks very highly of himself Juan Pierre: few casual fans understand that he's not very good at baseball TGJ: I cringe when people tell me that he's the CF in 2009. His ridiculous lack of power will get old VERY quickly. 2008 St. Louis Cardinals: please go away! Joba Chamberlain: I'm sick of hearing about him Jason Kendall: he likely wouldn't be on this list if he wore some batting gloves Dan Uggla: his ASG performance was historically awful!
  14. The dynamic of the magic number will probably soon change for the Brewers. STL and PHI are tied in the loss column.
  15. It's a courtesy thing. Most, if not all posters here, understand fan etiquette. Many bandwagoners, primarily those in their early 20s and families with several kids, enter and exit the rows during the middle of the game. I find it very irritating -- it's not difficult to practice common courtesy for the sake of fellow fans.
  16. Fun Fact: The Nationals have scored twice as many runs against the Cubs in the last 3 innings as they did against the Brewers in 40 innings.
  17. I'll put my money on Theriot. Three run HR off of Hanrahan in the bottom of the 8th. Kerry Wood strikes out the side in the 9th.
  18. Good 'ol 4-run HR for the feared Willy Harris. Ought to be some good comedy on the Cubs message boards for the next 10-20 minutes before the Cubs inevitably win the game.
  19. From what I've heard, sellouts are a 99% certain for the rest of the season. Every game the rest of the year? Wow -- those would be some gaudy numbers
  20. The 10K swim currently airing on USA now. Talk about tremendous athletes. A non-stop, six-mile swim with only a few "nourishment" stations. A number of boats are following the small group of men (perhaps a rescue squad?). These guys will be incredibly sore tomorrow morning!
  21. W (73-55) Keep losing Phillies and Cardinals A sweep of the Pirates would just be phenomenal.
  22. Ugh Dale Scott sucks at umpiring. Game on the brink, people
  23. According to Gamecast, that called strike-three pitch to Nix looked well off the plate. It did, but it would have only been a matter of time before he did strike out. Edit: Karstens on Saturday!? Ugh Edit 2: JJ!!
  24. Three games this year fit the bill and he failed in all of them -- Dodgers, Padres and Astros last night. Even Sheets admitted to trying to make the perfect pitch in situations like these as he knows the game is close and he needs to be perfect to win. This shows that he does not have the mentality to succeed like a true #1 ace. What about opening day? The offense didn't score a run until the 9th inning, and Ben didn't allow a run. That was against the Cubs -- I'd call that a pretty big game. Heck, in contrast, using your argument, you could include the game at Minnesota when the Brewers lost 5-0 ... Sheets received no support and he "caved." I'm sure you could find similar scenarios from other "true #1 aces": sometimes they just hit the wall in tight games. That's the nature of the baseball.
