  1. I'd think that Plan B would be far more popular. Two home games during the NLDS is far from a guarantee.
  2. And I don't know if Torres was available for a bailout this time. TH said in his blog that Torres was available on Monday night. I, too was upset with the way it was handled. 130 pitches is too many. I don't see why he couldn't let Mota handle the entire 9th inning with a 7 run lead. Why push it? If Sheets was pitching, I bet Ned turns to Mota for the 9th. I believe that Ned has continually pushed Sabathia too hard -- I don't care if he's getting extra rest. There was no need for him to pitch in the 9th inning with a 7-run lead. 6/19/2008. Why would a fatigued CC Sabathia be any more effective than a fresh bullpen arm? Even if Mota entered after Tejada walked and served up a homer, the Brewers would still lead 9-7 with two outs.
  3. Braun's out of the game. He looked tentative on two of his swings...maybe a precautionary move?
  4. Please, Rickie. Do something good here.
  5. It will be 21 straight sellouts, and the rest of the season is possible. There are very few tix left for September 1, as well. A true test will be the Monday, September 8 game. If they can sell out a Monday in early September when the Packers are playing, they can sell out any game.
  6. The defense won this game. We don't say that too much around here http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. How about Uecker's daily diatribe about the wonders of Usinger's sausage? That's my favorite. I think the Brewers player introduction presented by US Cellular is the worst.
  8. I deliver now and again for a sandwich shop. I'd expect enough to cover gas and additional wear-and-tear on the car, so the further you live/work from the restaurant, you should tip accordingly. 15%-20% is great for me -- this is why I love delivering large orders at lunchtime to offices. My gas is covered, plus I'll have a little to put in my wallet. From what I've encountered, most people don't tip for great service, but just to cover the expenses I face. Sometimes the amount of time it takes has nothing to do with him but rather the kitchen. I'll definitely agree with this. In fact, I'd say that the kitchen has the most to do with the time it takes to deliver. When I'm out on delivery, I know exactly where I'm going and I'm hauling butt. Plus, I absolutely dread facing ornery customers when I "took too long."
  9. Oh, and by the way... how is LaPorta doing for Team USA? He homered for Team USA today, in their 7-0 win over the Netherlands.
  10. It appears as if the entire 6 game homestand next week is sold out. SRO is being sold for Monday, Saturday, and Sunday. You cannot purchase tickets together for Tuesday and Friday's games, and you can only purchase two tickets together in the rafters on Wednesday. Plus, the Labor Day game is approaching sellout status quickly. So, the sellout streak will likely reach AT LEAST 22 games. The Tuesday, 9/2 game is a BP game, so that may reach sellout status, but the Tuesday after Labor Day game is still a difficult sell. Needless to say, this is very exciting news!
  11. Three notes: -Last year, it took the Brewers 138 games to reach their 70th win. This year, it took the Brewers 17 fewer games. -Last year, the Brewers did not earn their 70th win until after Labor Day (Sept 4). The Brewers have won their 70th game on Aug 13 in '08. -The Brewers have to go 20-21 to reach 90 wins.
  12. I'm going to be really upset if Sabathia is useless in October because he's throwing 114 pitches with a 6 run lead against an offensively inept team. That said, even though he has labored, yet again, CC was very impressive.
  13. I hate being in the Eastern Time Zone for Brewers west coast games. I just can't go to sleep while the Brewers are playing. I worry that Suppan/Yost are going to make this too interesting.
  14. I want to make the playoffs just as badly as anyone else on this site, but at the same time I want to have the best chance of reaching the World Series and to me that best chance is to win our division, so that is what I am going to root for. I'll start worrying about playoff matchups when I see an "x" next to Milwaukee in the standings. The MLB playoffs are a crapshoot -- it seems like there's a hot team that runs to the World Series every season (2007 Rockies, 2006 Cardinals, 2005 White Sox, 2004 Red Sox, 2003 Marlins, etc.). It's really anybody's game. And, to be honest, I don't want to see Webb/Haren in games one and two. Plus, it'll probably come down to Chicago and Milwaukee, anyways, and I don't really know if I want homefield in that series. (see July 28-31)
  15. John Kruk believes this injury will devastate the Rays because he has such a "big heart" or something phony like that. It certainly isn't good news for Tampa Bay, but they're still a great baseball team. They just need to tread water for a few weeks. Longoria is a major component of their offense, but their pitching staff is really the reason why they have 71 wins by now.
  16. Super Bowl History United States Geography Austin Powers Seinfeld History of American Literature Cold War
  17. BCU, I'm really not as confident as you are that the Brewers are a lock to make the playoffs. Clearly, the Brewers are the second-best team in the National League, but I watched the Rockies last year. Any team below the Brewers, including the Brewers, could pull off an absurd winning streak during the last week of September. Every time St. Louis loses, even to the Cubs, the Brewers increase their playoff chances. Gaining ground in the division is just an added perk. And, as for Tim and Sparky -- I absolutely wouldn't call it a defeatist attitude. That's extreme. Those two guys are huge Brewer fans, and they would probably do anything to see postseason baseball. So, I don't know why it's terrible that we're cheering for the Brewers to increase their playoff odds. The Cubs are a very good baseball team, and I don't expect the Brewers to win the division, so I'll take the Wild Card -- it's not a backdoor route to the postseason. Winning the NL West is a backdoor route to the postseason.
  18. Why do my teeth hurt everytime I smoke a cigar? It really hinders one's cigar-smoking experience.
  19. I'm sure as heck not missing Matt LaPorta anymore. Carsten Charles Sabathia = King of Milwaukee
  20. -Boston -A drive through South Dakota (or taking I-90 west, past the MN-SD state line -- it's like an adventure through the middle of nowhere until you end up in Seattle) -Driving through Pennsylvania -Pittsburgh doesn't get nearly enough credit
  21. Games remaining against Washington & San Diego: Milwaukee: 11 (8 at home) St. Louis: 0 That's big, IMO. If the Brewers play well enough against those teams, that's the difference between the Brewers and Cardinals. And those wins are likely to boost the Brewers into the 90 win range. With that schedule, it's very possible that the Brewers could finish at least 26-21. Phillies and Cubs both 93 wins. Chicago can easily win 93 games. Philadelphia currently stands at 62-52. If they won 93 games, they'd be 24 games over .500. I can't see the Phillies finishing the season 31-17. Don't bank on the Marlins and Mets both winning 90 games. Mets are only 6 games over .500, and the Marlins are only 7 games over. It's a stretch that even one would play 11-12 over .500 the rest of the year. At least one of the wild card contenders is bound to slip up at some point.
  22. It's anybody's guess as to how the Brewers would be scheduled in the playoffs. Last year, the NYY-CLE began on Thursday, whereas the other three began on Wednesday. There are several more days off within the NLCS and NLDS, so CC and Sheets can make more starts. If worst comes to worst, and Suppan or Parra have to start Game One, it's not the end of the world. Bottom line, our best case scenario is our series beginning on Thursday, October 2 -- CC or Sheets would be guaranteed to start. But, yes. I hope they can wrap up a berth ASAP. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  23. Prince is the leader of the team. The players acknowledge this. Just like BA Barracus was the leader of the A-Team. A player was acting out of line and Prince fixed it. I really have a problem with the Brewers clubhouse if this is the case. Sure, Prince may be a leader, but that doesn't give him the right to issue punishment or a physical beating to anybody. I'm sure other players on the Brewers would agree with this sentiment. But, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.
  24. Parra was being a jerk and Prince put him in his place. End of story What gives Prince Fielder the right to put anybody in his place?
