  1. drezdn wins wins with sly subtlety.
  2. Given his career numbers against Oswalt, I'm wondering then what the criteria would be for determining which starts those would be?
  3. Not only that, a series win in which they probably were at a starting pitching disadvantage AND a number of guys were struggling at the plate.
  4. Ed Romero better hope his team doesn't tie this thing.
  5. You know, I am thinking of geting my wife a purple spaghtti-string top.
  6. I want to hear these whiny baby fans if the Crew finds a way to come back and get this one. Heck of a call by the ump there who didn't just produce one of those giveup calls you sometimes see on tag plays whe the runner beats the ball.
  7. I've been critical of Hall as well. See last night's thread. But it is hyperbole to say he hasn't come through all year, because prior to the hamstring injury he was playing OK on both sides of the plate. I think he was probably playing above his mean in doing so, but he has the ability to do better than he is now. I think he has gone back to a more open, wider stance, though I don't have video to prove it, and I think that may be hurting him a bit.
  8. Yes, performance related discussion is one thing, personal attacks another. Hall didn't look any worse in his last AB than most guys tonight, but he is subjected to greater scorn for doing exaclty what a lot of guys would have done in the same situation.
  9. I do think the Hall bashing is getting to be a bit over the top.
  10. Other than him ending up on a team that the Brewers wouldn't face at all in interleague play, that may be the best possble outcome from Milwaukee's point of view.
  11. I still root very hard for Billy. Just about every time he comes up in a big sport and i'm on the in-game tread that night I post "Right field, Billy" in some insane, superstitious hope that it might make a difference. That said, after his 2nd AB last night I figured he had a less than 1-in-10 shot at even making contact. The final AB was not pretty, but almost expected at that point given how he looked in AB #2, which was worse than painful. I trust Macha to handle this correctly. The one thing I do worry about is that if guys like Hart and Hall start to drift farther away from what has been a team-wide desired plate approach, it will have wider repercussions. Braun and Fielder's big improvment from the first 13 games has been the engine for the current hot streak, but other guys have made a huge difference too. Braunie seems to be cooling off just a bit (not unexpected as what he was doing was not sustainable), but the answer for the other guys is not to try to replace that every night. Just stay with the approach, draw walks if possible, drive up opposing pitch counts, look oppo and the sheer mass of hitting ability on the team will sooner or later find a way to put up enough runs to win on most nights. Hall, Hart and Cam are the three biggest threats to upset that apple cart. Cam is doing the best so far at fighting what seems to be his more 'natural' approach, and I'm sure it's not easy for any of them, as it's hard to change something that's pretty much worked for you your entire life.
  12. Not only that he was going to K, but that the third pitch was going to be a slider low and away and that he wouldn't even be close. Especially after he lost any focus he might have had after the called strike two on a borderline high pitch.
  13. I'd feel a lot better if Hall didn't look so awful tonight.
  14. Was worried this might happen with Yo tonight. Just not good to be down that long, and the guys just can't seem to get over teh hump offensively. Keep it close and whittle it down and see if you can't get into the pen.
  15. Thanks to the rainout, which I don't really count, it seems like forever since I've watched Yo pitch. Have a feeling that there won't be a middle ground with Wandy in this one: either the Crew will jump on him early or Yo will have to pitch great because Rodriguez is too. If the latter, I just hope the Crew keeps up their great approaches and finds a way to get into the Houston pen (sooner rather than later) and win it late.
  16. The thing that has impressed me most about this team is that they have very consistently avoided the pitfalls that have snared them in the past, at least since game 2 of the series in Philadelphia). many fans are pessismistic by nature, and they often have at least anecdotal evidence to back up that feeling. But since this streak started, a lot have guys have showed something in terms of succeeding in situations where they had more often failed earlier on in their careers. Even in situatinos where it looks like things are snowballing in a bad way (e.g., the Gamel error inning in STL, or the first last night which was shaping up to be one of the prototypical combination bad/unlucky Bush innings) this team has overcome in ways they most often didn't in the past. Some of that is good breaks, but a lot of it is simply the kind of good baseball that needs to be played, and which you are used to seeing good, veteran (not necessarily old, but veteran) teams make. Like in poker, in the long run you just need to play a whole lot of hands, and then learn from them. The Brewers are getting to the point where they have done both, and are showing it.
  17. The following opinion is based only upon watching both of them and the basis in fact is probably really only know by those very close to teh team, but it at least *appears* that Braun cares about playing defense a fair bit more than Soriano does. I'll allow that this is completely subjective and I am biased in my view as a Brewer fan, but I'd bet that I'm not alone in holding that opinion. If true, that alone swings any argument. I beleive Brau is a better than average LF at present, if only because the bar is lower in LF and Braun is a superior athlete than most out there. The ball that fell in last night is something that will happen every so often, though that does not excuse it. On the other hand, I don't necessarily want kamikaze guys out there either who single-mindedly go after everything and end up hurting themselves or others, or who at least threaten to do so and thus cuase other guys to hesitate on plays that they should themselves make.
  18. The problem with saying the loss of Delgado is a bigger deal than the loss of Weeks is the fact that Delgado will be back in late July or August. Rickie is done for the year. To say that Delgado is a bigger deal is to imply that two months of Delgado is worth a year of Weeks.
