  1. Maybe the Brewers inadvertantly wore their sweep suits back from St Louis.
  2. Hats off to the Doorman and Bushy Mustache Man (and all the less recognizable others) for not selling out. Not that they would, but given the crowd composition, long term fan devotion above and beyond the call of duty in tough games like these needs to be acknowledged. It's gotten teh the point that I want the Brewers to make the playoffs just so I can hear Ueck call one on the radio, and see the Doorman stand with arms outstretched for an October walkoff. I may even be happy then waiting for it all to happen again when I'm 65.
  3. And non-longtime Brewer watchers have to realize that the Brewers were probably better than the CUbs last season and blew it the same way they are blowing a lot of things this season. Poor decisonmaking, poor plate discipline, poor defense and timely pitching breakdowns. This is a good Cubs team, but if this team was the Pittsburgh Pirates they wouldn't be getting as much love. Do not underestimate the media hype factor in all this. I haven't seen so much slurping since Jenna Jameson's early work.
  4. Until fairly recently, the Angels had a negative run differential. Maybe they're just lucky.
  5. Well, they were big-eyed when they went to NYC after the fast start last season, and things were never the same after the win on that Saturday. They were big-eyed going to Atlanta late last season, playing on national TV and it all fell apaprt. They were mauled in Boston and seemed overawed by the situation. Now we have this. A pattern is not only emerging, it is established.
  6. BA jinxes the no-no all the way from Milwaukee.
  7. Last night was a great example of how a game can be exciting while still being poorly played by at least one team on a fundamental level. See also, Memphis/Tennessee in college hoops earlier this year.
  8. Ennder, I agree with you 100% about luck. I've been close to HS sports enough to KNOW that luck is sometimes *everything*. And I agree with you that it makes a huge difference MUCH more often than people are comfortable with discussing in a world where we like to believe that things happen because we "deserve" them or "make them happen". That said, at some point a team does need to take responsibility for the things it CAN control or inprove upon. I think the Brewers, in most ways, "played harder" than the Cubs tonight. But they also played worse, and the Cubs got some breaks at the plate with flairs and nubbers and weird spins. Here we get back to the Twins. They might well be the luckiest team in the league this season, but they also seem to do well at consistently controlling the things they can control. I just wish this young, talented team the Brewers have would be a bit better at doing the same. It does seem to cut down on the "bad luck factor", or at least increase the "good luck" factor, at least to the extent that such a thing can be quasi-quantified.
  9. Funny. I think posts attributing the majority of fundamentally sound 58-win team's success in a superior league to luck are idiotic. Fundamentals, like plate discipline, sound defense, and throwing strikes are the 162-game bane of teams that fail to make the playoffs by just a hair. Tonight's game featured bad luck and bad play by the Brewers in at least equal measure. They can and need to control at least half of that equation a bit better.
  10. Lucky teams like the Twins win games like this 7-0.
  11. Moneyball, I'm sure you are a generous person who donates time and money to worthy causes. That said, I don't think you can argue that blindly selling to the highest bidder isn't selling out in this case. You could simply not blindly sell them. It's your choice not to do so. Others will criticize that choice. My father in law has Packer season tix. It's a differnt situation with the numver of games, but sees it as his responsibility to make sure those tix get into the hands he wants them in. He could probably finance his tix just by selling a few blindly each year. He just doesn't do it because the money isn't worth it to him. Opinions on this will vary.
  12. If Blue blew that I would have driven the three hours to Milwaukee to exact vengeance.
  13. "think it's a free market and everyone is free to bid if someone can't make it to a game." This is the definition of selling out. People are free to do so, others are free to comment thereon. I bet local little leaguers would love the seats. And you could write it off. Or just sell them at face to neighbors and friends.
  14. Yeah, but lots of season ticket holders made money, so that makes it OK.
  15. Hall has to play that ball. More bad defense.
  16. Bad defense and walks lose games.
  17. I'm gonna puke. We already gout our GIDP once in this situation. I'm guessing we won't here.
  18. I honestly don't know how I'm going to survive this week with all the bile and hatred rising up insside me.
  19. And I was just going to call him gutless.
  20. It's Prince's turn for some dramatics. Hall. Check. Braun. Check. Branyan. Check. Prince?
  21. "I didn't blame anyone for the loss of my legs - some chinaman in Korea took them from me - but I went out and achieved anyway."
  22. You don't bench Weeks in this game. All it does is waste a position player before you need to in a game that could go extras. (One more error probably puts it on "need to"). But you have to think about making adjustments moving forward, at the very least in terms defensive replacemtn in late innings.
  23. OK, if Rickie does something here I'll be pleasantly surprised. I think that play is in his head.
  24. Well, TGJ would not hit at least double digit homers.
