  1. Volquez can't be any good, because the Brewers rake against aces.
  2. It didn't work. Have to get more than 1 hit off Josh Fogg. And that was not strike 3.
  3. I just hope Weeks has both feet on the ground when he swings at one of these pitches.
  4. Wow. A first baseman can still catch the ball after it's in the dirt? And that can lead to an out?
  5. THing about that Cameron error is the ball was really well hit and he tracked it perfectly off the bat to even have a shot at it. SOmething must have come across his field of vision at just the last moment to cause him to miss it. I'm guessing from teh angle that it may well have been one of the ribbon boards. It's happened before at MP.
  6. OK, let's start the bullpen management conversation right now.
  7. As God is my witness, I had just finished saying"Right field, Billy" when he popped it out that way. We may need to find a new whipping boy (non-pitcher division).
  8. Preemptive anti-jinx vent: If this team loses tomorrow, and then 2 of three to the Reds this weekend with Javier Valentin at some point turning a 1-run game into a 4-run game, I'm taking the rest of the month off.
  9. I don't think you can classify this as one that got away when the biggest Brewer lead was 1-0. Not to say that the team wasn't disappointing, but this one didn't "get away". In a lot of ways, this one was almost sadly predictable in terms of offense generated. As poorly as Harang has pitched this season, I'm guessing that the Brewers will make CC work pretty hard to earn a W on Sunday, too.
  10. Maybe they can put Mota in and then take him out whn he reaches 2 outs.
  11. It's nights like this that make me question this team's overall ability to take the next step. They are often very exciting to watch offensively, but overall they simply struggle far too often against guys like Glendon Rusch. Plate approach continues to be a major issue often enough to be of concern over 162. Meanwhile, Colorado, even though looking bad against Sheets most of the time, continued to follow what appears to be "the book" in attacking Sheets. Eventually you can take Benny deep if you exhibit patience and aree fortunate enough to find the right pitch. And teams are finding ways to get Benny's pitch count up, too. I'll be very disappointed if there isn't a good ending to this.
  12. OK, DirecTV HD game broadcast now on for me.
  13. Any other DirecTV users getting the standard CH 642 broadcast but missing the HD on 642-1?
  14. With Branyan fiannly cooling off, is there any real option other than to keep Billy?
  15. Yeah, not saying he's benn getting lit at all. But everybody seems to attack him the same way and hopes that it works. If they get first pitch fastball anywhere close to the zone, they're swinging. If they can get ball 1, then they work him, both hoping to work the ovearll pitch count and try to find a mistake. I can't enunciate it better, but I can see that everybody seems to be taking the same approach to hoping to beat him. In a way, it's a real compliment to Benny. It's like teams are saing thiis is the only real way to try to beat him.
  16. I don't konw why, when Hardy is hot, anyone tries going inside-half on him. It would be frustrating to watch Prince right now if I were not so regrettaby resigned to it already. Is there a more set plan to attack any ace in basball than the plan of attack every team is taking against Ben Sheets ribght now?
  17. Dear Brewers: My, and probably more than few others, mental state for the rest of this holiday weekend rides on the events of the next 4.5 hours. Yes, my life is that pathetic. Just throw me a bone here. Please. If Sheeter loses to this orthodontic case study, I may have to take the rest of the night off to ponder the RLuz Conundrum; namely whether I should cheer for the Cubs or Cards this weekend. Or, given the appeal of that question, maybe I'll just consume Miller products until I'm near blindness, put on my Turnbow jersey and sporadically fire roman candles in random directions. I don't want to go there. I just don't. I unthinkingly put on my unlucky Brewers hat on the way out the door to my kid's soccer game last night. You know the hat. Purchase date: early evening, May 12, 2007. As soon as my hand left the brim last night, I saw a ball carom off Russell Branyan's glove. I turned off the TV and headed for the car. But I already knew. Ueck's call as we drove the half hour to the field was just confirmation. I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I promise. I won't throw out the hat, and I won't defile it. Just win today, and I'll forgive you for your part in yesterday. I know I screwed up. I hope you forgive me, too.
  18. SOmeone will have to post the video of Bill in the D-Backs booth if they've got it.
  19. Leaving aside the pitching, the thing I like most about Torres is that he seems so excited to be in the position he's in. You can just see that he wants to win, and he really enjoys what's going on. (Not that the other guys don't)
  20. After seeing Branyan's career line against this guy I wondered which is greater: the number of guys that Branyan has a hit an no home runs against, or has a hit and at least 1 HR against, provided at least 3 ABs.
  21. Another succesful use of the reverse jinx hypothesis.
  22. Yeah, was getting groggy and flipping back and forth. I guess I jinxed it.
  23. Cubs lose on a great play by the SF 3B. 1 more out, Torres!
