  1. I think RR is working pitching matchups. Estrada v Correia and then Yo versus Burnett tomorrow. I guess when your whole season rests on the next 10 days you do that.
  2. Well, everybody else is going pretty good in the spots they're hitting now. You could move Weeks up, but why change his situation now that he's getting into a groove? So if the choice is between Ishikawa and Izturis in the 2 hole, Ishikawa wins every time. Yes, none of this should matter, but that's just the way baseball does things.
  3. I may have jinxed this. (Thinly veiled attempt to appease the jinx gods).
  4. Love the win, but not so sure about the AL-length games that they've been playing lately. But then, what else do I have to do?
  5. BA - under no circumstances this season can/should you call any run other than a walk-off run to be "the winning run".
  6. I agree with BA and Rock on that. Hard to say what happens in that AB depending on what the outcome of the Morgan steal attempt is. If he steals the bag there is a good chance Braun simply doesn't get anything to hit there.
  7. Playoffs, here come the Brewers! Barring that, I want Ryan Braun to have a second half that forces writers to vote him a second consecutive MVP award. A 50/30 season would likely do the trick. He's halfway there.
  8. The Brewers will sign Hatteberg to play first after trading Hart for pitching and proceed to win 21 games in a row, topping the As and tying the Cubs NL record. Seriously, I made the optimism comment in the game thread following the first game of the Marlins series. I'll stand by what I said there, which means I think the Brewers have to find a way to go 7-2 in these next 9 if they really want to take themselves seriously. 6-3 is a maybe, but then you have to sweep the Phils IMO. My adjusted rule of thumb: As soon as it become mathematically impossible to be at .500 when the Nats come to town, you start the sale. That means they need to go 9-3 in the next 12. If that seems an impossibly high standard, well, too bad. This team has simply squandered too many chances to this point. They simply won't get the best deals possible if they wait too long. This rule balances the realities of the situation on both sides: win at that rate and standing pat/adding can be justified. If they can't do it they will mean they have lost ground to their direct competition in the division to an extent that it would be unreasonable to continue acting as if they have any legitimate shot at making teh post-season.
  9. Two things I will always remember about Ben Sheets in Milwaukee: 1) The days when his curveball was really working 2) Every time he attempted to get from the batter's box to 1st base on a ball-in-play. Sheets was one of those guys who got labelled as "injury-prone", and the label was somehow, impossibly, paradoxically true AND false.
  10. Not gonna say it's a big win, but it sure beats losing 4 of 5 going into the break. Still think that they have to go 7-2 out of the break to even think about standing pat, but at least they didn't get the door completely slammed in their face today.
  11. That 3-1 curveball from Ax is literally the best pitch he's thrown in recent weeks. Until the 3-2 curveball. Didn't know he still had it in him.
  12. Proof that statistics can't watch games: Fangraphs has the Brewers Win Expectancy at almost 91% going into the bottom of the 10th.
  13. Line graph showing progress of the season for all NL Central squads. Problem for Brewers is not inconsistency. It's that they're entirely too consistently mediocre (at best).
  14. Yup. It's at the point right now where even if the Vent Thread was reanimated, there isn't even a lot to vent about. No steam left in the engine at all.
  15. I have the option of going to Brewers/Pirates or Twins/A's next Sunday. It pains me to say it, but provided the weather cooperates, Twins/A's is a runaway winner for me right now for a whole bunch of reasons.
  16. Even if it looks bad, even if you might interpret it as "being showed up" a good ump doesn't toss a guy there, four pitches into a game with nothing having happened between him and Greinke to that point. The ump had numerous options there. He chose the nuclear option. It's just poor officiating and it had a impact on the outcome of the game disproportionate to whatever the infraction was. That makes it the worst kind of poor officiating.
  17. I was speaking of the now mathematical impossibility of reaching .500 by the break. I attribute my desire to see a 15-inning game with this pen to innate masochism.
  18. Looks like today is the day that we officially get to call pacopete crazy.
  19. Manny Parra. Keep hearing the argument that so many teams would jump on him if the Brewers gave him his release. I guess that says more about the state of baseball than it does about Manny Parra.
  20. I've got no plans for tonight. Let's take this thing to at least the 15th.
  21. It's nice to know that it's gonna be another gut-punch for somebody, to the extent that teams under .500 and in contention only in the broadest possible definition of "contention" can be gut-punched.
  22. If Corey goes deep here we just might have a ball game.
  23. Have to wonder why Carlos would waive the no-trade for Miami but not for teh Dodgers.
