  1. It haven't heard anything in that regard. Another hypothesis is that as we get deeper into the season and the path the sun takes across the sky changes, they adjust the roof position accordingly.
  2. This brought to mind the great amusement I got out of seeing Ben Sheets attempt to run to first base on those occasions when he put the ball in play.
  3. They just asked how many teams MLB can support. I'll say 28.
  4. I know this is heresy for a game thread, but the end of Kent St/Florida CWS game was nuts. OK, go Crew.
  5. MLB had to "go after" Braun when they got a result that the science people said was a positive. Consider what would have happened if they hadn't gone after Braun and then somebody leaked the fact that MLB had refused to prosecute a case in which the reigning NL MVP tested positive. Without rehashing everything in the thread, the major tipping point in this case happened when ESPN ran with a leak. It had the effect of hardening MLB's position. MLB had to know, or should have known, there was at the very least a procedural problem with the case at the time it went before the arbitrator, but given the leak there was no way they could back off the case even if they wanted to for very valid reasons. I continue to believe that there was more than just a procedural problem in this case. I continue to be infuriated by the fact that, despite a complete lack of hard evidence as to the reasons behind the decision, the entire media establishment has run with the "just a technicality" story, which, for reasons I've repeated a number of times, is in itself misleading even if true. Someday this will all come out. It will be interesting when it does. For now, my interest in the whole PED parade has shifted to the Lance Armstrong situation. Regardless of what Armstrong did or didn't do, the procedural side of the case, and USADA's insistence on dredging up stuff that is over a decade old and related to a sport in which Armstrong no longer compete, will be worth keeping an eye on.
  6. Was going to go to this one with my Dad today, but we decided that it would be more fun to do later in the season so I could see some AL teams I don't usually see. Looks like we made the right call.
  7. An extra innings game on any weekend of the last few season would have a game thread a lot longer than 4 pages. What happened to the Delta I used to know?
  8. That guy is making DM's job harder and harder every game that Luc's return gets nearer. I'm not saying he's going to take JL's job, but the guy can play at the ML level.
  9. The sad thing is that the Brewers can't even get a couple of lucky 'hits' like the Twins did that inning.
  10. I think the answer to this question goes a long way to explaining how there have been so many no-hitters/perfect games recently. There are a lot of bad offensive ML baseball teams out there.
  11. Liriano is in line for another 135 pitch, 6 walk no-hitter.
  12. It's hard to know without and really good data, but to the degree PED testing is a factor, that may well be a wash. Pitchers were using, too. Though they're not seen as PEDs in the classical sense, I think there might well be more of an impact on everyday players in terms of stimulant use being curtailed than there is any sort of net advantage to hitters in terms of the PED arms race. Information tech cuts both ways, too. Hitters have the same video on pitchers.
  13. The Hardy trade wasn't a bad move at the time it was made. The bad moves came in prior to that which resulted in the trade essentially becoming necessary. Not saying JJ didn't contribute to what became an inevitable dissolution of the relationship between team and player.
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ytCEuuW2_A Was thinking more along these lines. I'm not sure they deserve an entire song.
  15. Nice to see on the replay that Ramirez was also encouraging the throw to second. At least the team is all of one mind in its efforts to flush the season by the ASB. Should be a fun short flight to MPLS.
  16. The good news is that, thanks to the Phillies winning tonight in Minneapolis, the Twins can't pass the Brewers in the overall league standings with a sweep this weekend.
  17. That beats the Ryan Braun Little League Triple by a factor of `12.
  18. Well, at least the US is ahead against Guatemala. Just happy ZG doesn't have to take this loss.
  19. Some foreign visitor to Kansas City is in that park tonight, watching his first professional baseball game. Is this the message we wish to be sending to the world?
