  1. And the winner is . . . 16-11. Six game winning streak came up huge.
  2. The Wildcard race is a nice fallback to have, but I really want no part of second place. First, because I think it's still probably a longshot for the WC to come out of the Central. Second, it's second place. At some point the Brewers need to win this division. It's there to be had. Two division titles in the history of the franchise probably isn't much to ask. I'd rather the team focus on winning the division and then catching the Giants rather than catching the Braves.
  3. I don't have any doubt that Melvin was doing his due diligence with regard to some of these guys. But I'm not convinced that there was any real commitment to making something happen. He certainly wasn't going for a home run in the case of the SS position. It seems pretty clear he wasn't doing anything at all with respect to the 3B position. Now, his options were certainly limited, as I don't beleive that a 'splash' was there to be made, even if he wanted to make one. I'm just speaking with a view to the record DM has established. It just seems to me there is a commitment to continuity within the context of a given season. The one place where DM has made big moves is with respect to pitching, but there is always a fluidity in the pitching situation, of almost every team.
  4. Saying winning two games out of three at worst is pretty high standards. I would have taken a 6-3 homestand at the start but of course I would now love a 8-1 though 7-2 wouldn't be a season ender. Not a big deal at all to end 7-2, but it would, by defintion, mean that they will lose ground to STL over the next 3 days. Is it asking too much for the Cubs to maybe win tonight? I don't think the Crew is really entitled to ask for anything given the way Houston just put this weekend on a plate for them, but any help further would be appreciated.
  5. This played out about how I expected, except for the K-Rod deal which was a surprise. I simply think that DM doesn't believe in completely disrupting the team by taking a position away from the guy who has had that job every day, all season, unless he gets an absolute superstar or unless he feels he has no other option. The Brewers weren't going to get superstars, and it's pretty clear how much veterans are preferred over guys with limited experience. I just don't see CM or YB being forced out at this point, nor do I see CC or MK going anywhere. Not defending those positions taken by the management, but I think that writing has been on the wall for a while now for all to see.
  6. Nice AAA/A weekend vacation. Need to finish an 8-1 (at worse) homestand and extend the lead.
  7. Ax needs a quick inning here. I have to get a haircut and a new tie so as to be eligible to watch tomorrow night's game.
  8. Wisconsin sports still rolling (if NASCAR is a sport). Menard wins the Brickyard, Kenseth 5th.
  9. Shouldn't Counsell's streak be getting the same sort of coverage that a guy going after DiMaggio's streak would garner? I smell East Coast bias.
  10. The Brew/Cards thing could get testy, but I have a suspicion that there could be some stuff with Pittsburgh that might erupt as well when things get tight. Hurdle is a tough customer and I'm pretty sure that there is a reservoir of dislike for Milwaukee just below the surface in Pittsburgh. Not that there is personal dislike for any of the guys, necessarily, but Pittsburgh has to be tired of losing to the Brewers and the Brewers have to be seen as a bit more "in our way" to the Pirates than do the Cards.
  11. Well, Foxtrax had it as as close a pitch as you can get. It wasn't a gift as much as it was a tough call that went the Brewers way. I think it was just a good looking pitch that deserved to be rewarded.
  12. I like this, but I think it would work better with Prince. Or you could really mess with people and do it with CC or Betancourt, only to disappoint them with their ultimate lack of disappointment.
  13. The Brewers haven't had a "hard feelings" game yet this year, have they? Sounds like Detroit and Anaheim got testy near the end. This is a pretty loose group of guys for the Crew, but you'd alomst have to expect some sort of conflicts arising down the stretch.
  14. For those watching, was the error legit? Did it look like Verlander maybe "created" his own error? So, the smart move is to bring in the pen, right? Verlander's PC is at 110.
  15. That's my point. If you just saw the Crew come into town and stink like they have stunk, you'd walk away wondering how they are in first place. That play by Counsell is worth at least a hit.
  16. Well, to a well-eduacted fan, yes, But to the average guy who only follows his own team pretty closely it has to be hard to be impressed if you only see the Crew when they come to your town.
  17. The sad thing, when watching this, is that until quite recently, the Brewers were about as efficient on the road as Houston. What we're seeing is what other fanbases saw when they were watching the Crew roll into town. Except those fans had to leave the ballpark and wonder how that team was in contention, much less in first place.
  18. Too bad for Verlander the smart move in a 2-0 game is to bring on the closer in the ninth.
  19. This AB was a win since we get to Braun, right?
  20. And, until Casey proves he can turn on a pitch, don't throw him anything anywhere but in. And yet teams have recently continued to throw stuff on the outside where Casey can take easily pitches the other way, which is just about all he's trying to do at this point.
  21. The team isn't appreciably better. They're playing the Cubs and Astros. For all the hoo-ha about have great the starting pitching has been, the sad fact is that they were below .500 on the road trip even with great pitching. Winning against bad teams is temporarily masking the same, continuing problems with the position player roster.
  22. Yep. I was just now able to regain conciousness, pick myself up off the floor and make my way back to the keyboard to comment on that same thing. Problem is, Rock is really only the messenger here. The message itself has been issued loud and clear by Brewers management. It's the only rational explantion for why those guys are in there (or even on the roster).
