  1. Dempster on the mound, Betancourt protecting McGehee in the order and a sizeable Cubs contingent at the ballpark. What could possibly go wrong?
  2. Yeah, I made that same observation, only in a more snide manner, just the other day in one of the IGT. Essentially, the Brewers 1-run game record is good because when they lost late earlier this season they were good at turning close games into blowouts. I know many here think its a terrible way to run a railroad, but I just remember way too many cases of the Brewers failing to add-on in games. It may all just be psychological, but perhaps even just one extra run in some of those games relieves a bit of pressure on the late inning guys and helps them perform a bit better. To me it still comes down to having way too many holes in the everyday lineup, compounded by the fact that, other than Gomez, nobody on the bench had anything of a plus nature to offer even in a limited role.
  3. The whole wierd thing about upgrading the pen and seemingly ignoring teh left side of the IF is that Milwaukee has such a good record in 1-run games. I'm not disputing that the pen has been a problem at times but I attribute a fair amount of that to mismanagement of the talent out there as much as to the talent out there. And they still have won a whole bunch of one-run games anyway. I always thought that the inability of the offense to tack on, especially in about the middle third of the season when Loe was stacking up losses, was just as big a problem for the team. I don't think it's unfair to say that it was a problem becuase half of the lineup was simply awful and the team had no real alternatives to turn to with respect to the awful guys. Yet the blame always fell on the bullpen, when in fact virtually every loss is a collaboration of failures. I'm kind of resigned to the fact that nothign good is going to happen on the left side, unless it's a miraculous turnaround by the guys already on the roster.
  4. Fans at sites like these are a extraordinarly small sample of the baseball viewng public. It's the production for the general viewer that matters. People like what they are used to in terms of how the game is presented to them. Simply moving the camera a few feet in the outfield has prven to be off-putting to some, as evidenced by comments in this thread. And while the crowd/non-game action shots have become formulaic, the number of people that prefer them to be in the broadcast, as opposed to those who want to see Rickie Weeks move two feet to his right between pitches, is overwhelmingly large. I think it would be really great for most to watch a Packer game through a Mike McCarthy-cam, with severely limited on-screen graphics, so as to gain an understanding of how different football looks from the sideline (where the big decisions need to be made) than it does from a high angle with a first down and tons of other instant info on the screen. FOX's phones would overload before the end of the second possession of the game. Some folks think the time is coming where you might have the ability to "be your own producer" and have multiple camera angles avialable right through your own viewing device. Some also thing this is a good idea. For some it will be, but most viewers have neither the time nor inclination to be bothered with that stuff.
  5. Well, as noted, you really need the video to complete the picture, but here ya go: http://brewersfandemonium...back-Saunders-Brewers-wi
  6. There ARE only a few good teams in teh NL. And only a few more in the AL. That's the nature of baseball these days. The Pirates are 15-6 versus the Cubs and Stros. That is why they are in the race. The Brewers have opportunies against those clubs coming up, but they have the almost the exact same number of games against them as the Cards at this point. They altenate playing them this week before the faceoff next weekend. And the Brewers have been bad against the Cubs and 'Stros this season so far (6-7 against the two worst teams in the NL) so I don't know that we can take them as a given. Steering this back on topic, that's why it seems to me that at least giving Green a shot at 3B seems to be a no-brainer unless something else is going on organizationally. It's damned near impossible to be worse than McGehee at this point. Simply improving a little bit may be all this team needs to give themsleves an advantage. Not only have the Brewers not given Green a shot they haven't really even explored Wilson or Counsell as options (and probably with good reason). It's simply dumbfounding that in a race that will likely be decided by very incremental improvements by whichever team makes them, the Brewers have seemingly decided that their best option is to hope one of the worst everyday players in MLB simply "snaps out of it" when all the evidence is pointing very strongly in the opposite direction.
  7. The Mets may be a glorifed minor league team, but they'd probably be within a game of the lead (or better) if the played in the NL Central and got to play the Cubs and Astros on a regular basis. Asit stands rightnow playing in a superior division their record puts them on par with the Reds who are only 3 games back. The NL Central is not good. Thats what makes the Brewers failre to take advantage of the situation so disappointing. This is much, much more likely to end up like 2007 than 2008, if only because the wildcard simply isn't a very realistic option at this point. None of this is about assigning blame anymore. It's simply about finding ways to improve. Other than the K-Rod move, this team has not improved at all and, because of injury or lack of production, they are regressing at some spots. If this continues, even if they stay right in the thick of things, the Brewers will be extremely vulnerable to simple twists of fate at the end of the year. The prize is there to be seized. The time to open an advantage is now. I don't want to read any more stories about sunglasses and the like in September, when the real issue is that significant holes in this roster that some have been talking about even when the team was riding high earlier in the season. The team has some star power, but is only really being kept at the top of the standings by the shortcomings of their divisional competitors at this point.
  8. Look at the live video from the other angle. It's posted upthread. The still does not tell the whole story. It may be worse than the still that somebody posted of the hot blonde in Arizona in that regard.
  9. It's sad to say that, even as much as Yuni has struggled, this isn't even that hard a decision. Casey has been that bad this season.
  10. And here is another prediction that says they do: http://www.coolstandings....ll_standings.asp?sn=2011 I haven't seen anything to make me beleive that the teams with better "true talent", or whatever other stuff people like to rely on to say that what is on paper matters all that much, will employ that talent (and probably more important get out of their own way in positions that are gaping holes) to make this division race anything more than a final week coin-flip.
  11. No argument here. It's just nicer to talk about the story in a positive sense, and the Pirates rvide that story line. The dirty little secret is that nobody in the NL other than Philly or Atlanta is more than marginally good. The Giants are nice but can't score. After that, meh. But good for the Buccos. If they win the division I will have no complaints. The Brewers likely will have done themsleves in and I will shed no tears for the others.
  12. FIRST PLACE, BABY!!!!!
  13. If the Pirates don't fall back a little after this week, they are in great shape. The Brewers and Cards will have failed significantly (or Pittsburgh will have just played very well) if they don't open a lead this week after getting to play the 'Stros and Cubs all week. It's nice to tale about Pittsburgh and all, but they're really not any different than the Nationals. They just play in a division where they have been able to go 15-6 against the two worst teams in teh NL. If Washington were in the NL Central, they would be contenders and getting all the press.
  14. No we didn't hit and the sun got Wilson. Why must people always blame something? RR, a player, whatever. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't. We get breaks as well. But when brewer players do it, people run to the computer to talk about how bad a player is and how we should replace him. I think we would have had 10 different 3b and SS already this year. 5-6 roadtrip if they lose. Move on. I think you missed the point, but thanks for the condescension.
  15. True. BUT: 1) It's the NL Central. 2) When the highpoint of the season is being only 1-game under .500 on a road trip that's kinda setting the bar low. The whole thing just seems to be setting us up for a lot of heartbreak, anger and angst come September. Manifestos may end up being written. We may need to start a BF.net 7-step program.
  16. So when the Brewers finish a game out, will we all blame it on a pair of freaking sunglasses not worn?
  17. It simply isn't even worth commenting on Casey anymore. The conversation simply must move on to the organizational failure to remedy the situation.
  18. Makes me sad to say, but I think this game is already lost. Not scoring 3 runs today. Hope I'm wrong.
  19. Probably has to do with the sheer number of mistakes the Brewers make. And the fact that Milwaukee has about 4 guys in their lineup on any given day who have the ability and mindset to exploit the weaknesses of others. Rock was right on earlier: A mediocre team will win the NL Central division.
  20. I wish that throw would have gone to second as deep as he was playing.
